Ok so I went up to xur, with my Sunbreakers and my exotic shard, and he had my sunbreakers in one of his "upgrade exotic weapon" slots for the week all highlighted for me, so I thought "Oh good, I can upgrade my sunbreakers, thats great".
Except when I selected it, instead of upgrading my sunbreakers... they are just the same sunbreakers as before. Except now, they have zero experience, so I have lost a week's worth of XP gains, as well as 7 strange coins and an exotic shard and 7000 glimmer....
Umm, what?

The upgrade weapons from Xur is designed for Exotics that were earned before the expansion "The Dark Below" launched. Exotics acquired after that are automatically the 2.0 version. You can check the FAQ on Exotic Upgrades for details. http://www.bungie.net/7_Exotic-Upgrade-FAQ/en/Help/Article/12457

So I totally agree that there should be a warning message saying that your light isn't able to upgrade any more if you already have upgraded versions, however I also have to say I like the option to "upgrade" my armor to change the intellect/strength/discipline. I personally love using my grenades, so when I saw I could change my warlock helmet from 90~ish strength to 110~ish discipline, even though it was already maxed out, I "upgraded" it to change the stats. It was expensive and time consuming to re-level it back to maxed out, however it's now my favorite exotic. My personal suggestion to Bungie is to offer a sort of "reforge" option, either less expensive, or leaving the piece maxed out (or even better: both!). At the very least though, please leave a warning message before purchasing an upgrade; e.g. 'this will reset your weapon/armor's upgrades.' Or 'your armor has reached the maximum light level. Sure to proceed?' These are my thoughts. Does anyone have anything they wish to add, or any disagreements? Thank you Guardians, Zach

Edited by JDoe: 1/24/2015 12:05:43 AMA vendor, either real or virtual, should either give you what you paid for or refuse payment for services that can't be rendered. Taking payment for something, and then also taking away all experience on a given item is unfair, lazy, bad programming, and a horrible business practice. In the real world, such a vendor would go out of business and be prosecuted. In Bungie's closed economy, we get no warning in the game that this may happen, and a help forum topic that is best summarized as "shoulda checked here first - too bad, no refunds". If this is how Bungie wishes to do business and they're unwilling to fix it, I'm taking my business elsewhere and will spread the word amongst other gaming dads to do the same.

You had already upgraded Sunbreakers but since you upgraded them there isn't the next upgrade level until HoW so all you did was reset the Sunbreakers like if you just got them.
-
I'm confused. I saw your Warlock and the Sunbreaker you have are at +31 light. That means they have the new max +36 light. Did you think you could upgrade it further to +40 light?

Where is zur this week
-
You can only upgrade exotics from Pre-DLC versions to current versions. How does this keep happening to people?
-
Xur's upgrades are for exotics obtained before the expansion was released. It allows the old 300 atk and 30 light exotics to upgrade to 331 atk and 36 light. They're also great of you got a new exotic with a crappy stat roll. Bungie isn't going to refund your materials. Next time take 2 seconds to compare before you any upgrading
-
If you're sunbreakers were not capped at 30 light when they were max, then you purchased an upgrade for nothing.

Edited by pulvis ira: 1/23/2015 10:53:05 PMIt should be a 2.0 version. The way those work is they have a higher base than a fully maxed 1.0. This is defense for armor and attack for weapons (for 1.0 weapons 300= max, now it starts at 302 or so and maxed=331). Another change is they're cheaper to max out (no more ascendant materials, just spin metal or whatever) + 1 exotic shard. Keeps the gun fresh while keeping you sharp. I also find it encourages you to try one you might have kept on the shelf (hello, hard light)
