How do we make the Gunsmith relevant again?
I feel sorry for the Gunsmith. Standing behind that counter all day. Nothing to do. No one to talk to. (Except maybe a lvl 8 character) maybe the occasional Exotic Bounty lead.
A couple of my ideas:
[b] Allow him to upgrade weapon levels[/b]. The Stranger's rifle is cool, but at lvl 16 it lacks punch. What if I could upgrade it to 17, 18, 20? 300 attack on the Khovostov? Think about it!
[b] Allow him to change the elemental effect[/b] Let me take a rocket launcher that I like. Maybe its one that upgrades to the triple clip but it's only a lvl 18 with Arc damage. I could use my glimmer to get it to 20 and then change it to Void.
The fact is I don't even care if it's expensive. Give me (and the Gunsmith) something to do with my marks and glimmer. I'd pay 5000 to level it up. I'd pay the same to change the elemental. And I don't know if glimmer is the best fit for upgrade currency, the developers know best on that one, but let's put this guy to work again.
I hope he's on salary, cause if he's getting paid by the hour, bungie, you need to let him go.

Some cool ideas, honestly though with the strongest ones you have here, going from some of the vid docs a year before launch, that was exactly the system, no materials needed to upgrade weapon perks but weapons had level and they could be upgraded and carried with you through your entire character experience while still being effective, kinda sucks the system now is..."here's a really cool weapon, you'll get used to it and love it but will become irrelevant once you level alittle" :(

Cool ideas. He isn't a 100% useless. He does sell ammo syntheses witch I buy often because I use them during raids or nightfalls or to just burn money because of the money cap.

3 RepliesPerhaps the elemental change could be done using the pocket infinity bounty mechanic. For example you buy an elemental change bounty from the gunsmith - then have to disassemble x number of the required element damage weapons to charge your new power cell? Make it more challenging and would give us something to do with all those level 16-19 rare weapons from our "friend" Rahool!

Maybe ensure that he stops selling Green-level equipment when you hit Lvl 20.

How about have the damn guy (and for that matter all the other "vendors")upgrade with you. It's amazing how your enemies seem to be just as strong when your level 8 as they are when your 28. Yet the vendors seem to lack products. Maybe all the manufactures went to old china *wink wink ; ] This game lacks so much...

Some really good ideas there. I would also suggest being able to re-roll our faction weapons. For example, guns like The Devil You Know, Grim Citizen III, etc. can be a lot better with certain perks that are only obtainable as a random drop and not purchased. How about transmog our weapons look, like how Diablo 3 has done it? How about having the gunsmith have his own reputation/weapons that we can acquire through (Like other factions?)

5 RepliesNot sure why they couldn't have the gunsmith level up with our characters in order to sell weapons of our level we might be interested in. Only thing I've bought from him since level 10 or whatever are ammo synths. But if they did that then what would the point in getting marks to buy from the vanguard? Idk this game gives me a headache sometimes.

Yes said this also they could make it vee r interactive by having it take real time for him to tweak your weapons.

That jackass gives absolutely nothing but blue garbage all day and night now. Just turned in over 50 blue engrams tonight and got NOTHING for all of it except blue gear I had to go through dismantling and I have him ranked up to Lvl 50. Got three more Cryptarch packages at the postmaster and nothing but more blues with the same result. Just a complete waste of time. Didn't even get strange coins and motes of light which I normally get a bunch of which makes no sense unless Bungie is at it again with nerfing engram conversion rates because a week or so ago I was getting a strange coin or mote of light out of every three or four blues when I'd turn in a bunch.

The last thing you said about always vault your blue fusion rifles makes me sad. I have been sitting on 10 blue fusion rifles since about 5 exotic bounties ago. I have gotten the thorn, invective, bad juju bounty 9 times now. I don't even get excited anymore when I see that gold bounty pop up.

Good ideas. Would've loved to been able to build a custom gun with him but I doubt that will happen.

Make him sell materials... Relic Irons, Spirit Blooms, Spinmetals, and Helium Coils... I'm tired of going to a planet for 1 hour just to level the last tier of my legendary/exotic weapons.

What if he sold weapon engrams. Maybe not legendaries, but blues and greens. Make em decently expensive, give him a leveling system. Be able to use marks for legendary weapons that actually alternate every x amount of hours. Also upgrade weapon levels, maybe color schemes, change upgrades or "perks" of weapons. Special ammo that does something different for x amount of time or permanent. This could become a really good idea. Props to you sir

It'd be nice if the gunsmith had the ability to change perks on a gun. He'd have different perks available each day worth a certain number of strange coins or other forms of currency. Though I think there would also need to be a limit on how many times you can change the perks on a gun.
