Comcast Router/Modem Disconnection FIX // Error Code CATERPILLAR EASY FIX

After getting a new router from Comcast I started getting disconnected 20 min into every game, giving me the Caterpillar message. I have the Technicolor 8305C, I think most Comcast customers do. Do this first! Trying to understand your NAT type with no prior knowledge takes at least an hour. Most of the guides and suggestions I used were difficult to understand and had a lot of extra info that wasn't necessarily needed. I tried port forwarding and messing with the firewall, both of which did not work. I spent a hell of a lot of time learning a load of stuff you people don't want to know. That's why I'm offering you people in a similar situation an alternative to the twilight zone that is networking. All you need to do is put your Xbox on DMZ. *I DONT KNOW WTF DMZ IS* but I did hear it's safe for an Xbox. Step 1) Type '10.0.0.1' into your browser just like you would 'www.kittens.com'. This should be the IP used to access your router. It shouldn't be hard to find, just google it if you don't know. 2) The default login is 'admin' and password is 'password'. There's no need to change it. 3) On this first page look for Connected Devices on your network in the box on the right. Find out which one is your Xbox by process of elimination or turning it on and off. Now remember your Xbox's IP Address. It has one just like the computer you're on. 4) Select Advanced > DMZ from the menu on the left and enable DMZ. 5) Enter your Xbox's IP address as the host. ***NOTE: You might have to set a static IP address for your Xbox. I was not able to do that, but in the end I didn't need to. My xbox always goes to the same one. TADA you're done. I hope this works for some and saves some of you the nightmare of trying the other options. HAPPY GRINDING!!! :D *smiles then face goes blank when he realizes he hates destiny* 8/ PS: I deleted all my port forwarding but I left 3074 open. My firewall is on "custom settings" with no boxes checked.

  • I've searched countless hours for a fix, I pray to god this works, xD but ofcourse my errors are inconsistent in timing, sometimes it gives me an error every ten minutes other times ever hour or so. So Hopefully this time it will work flawlessly. Also N-n-n-n-necroComment xD

      • I'm with Comcast. I have their router back and bought my own and haven't had a single disconnect since. It's their router that's the problem 100%

So I have run into the same exact issue! And delved into the world of Networking issues to no avail. Along with the following Things That Did Not Work: -Exiting out game Reset Xbox -Reset router -Reset gateway for router -Reset router to factory settings -Reset to factory defaults on Xbox -Setting Xbox to Static IP address, (thinking this would help). -Enabled Port Forwarding on for ports TCP & USP 53, TCP & UDP 3074, TCP 80, and UDP 88. -Enabled UPnP -DMZ on with port forwarding off -Reset Xbox software by clearing cache and reinstalling update. -Calling Comcast and having them do the same resets and changing router channel. -Port triggering for the ports mentioned above when more than one Xbox is in use, port forwarding off, DMZ off -Wiring the Ethernet cord to each device -Another multiple resets -More resets... I'm also trying to use multiple consoles, we have 2 Xbox360's in our house, however this issue occurs even when only one of us is on. I'm going to try to set up what you said before ultimately getting another router.

          • I've got my PS3 setup like that, but it hasn't fixed it. Almost considering putting it into bridge mode and getting a different wireless router.
