Gunsmith what's the point???? (UPDATED)

Once you get to say level 15 the gunsmith becomes well redundant. He never has anything of use to sell other than ammo refills. Why bungie could you not have given him a random loot stream which involved exotics and legendary. I hate it when games make characters that have a 2 min role but never leave the game. Just a thought give him a random loot stream and mix up the currency used, so many use them. What does everyone else think? (update) I realize I should have said Gaurdian outfitter as well, I have more emblems that I care for but shaders are in short supply. I guess I didnt mention her because I forgot she even existed. Don't get me wrong I don't want things handed to me I like the idea of earning things but why do people think that going out and collecting glimmer or other bits such as strange coins to purchase an exotic is not earning it, if you ask me it's far more earned than all the little turds out farming loot caves for engrams. I am not asking for there to be an exotic up for grabs every day just make him and her have some more value to the end gamers. (update #2) Can we please stop posting the obvious now, we all know he sells ammo and has a small role in a bounty these two very small points do not make his role in the game anymore relevant. I would love to to see more interaction with all the NPC's, but I think the GUNSMITH should be one of the more relevant NPC's of a SHOOTER. Having him build guns or change perks simply would not work in this iteration of the game. Why? well that ability would render exotics redundant and pointless cause we could all just make one no need to find/earn/buy them. I think the future games will have far more customization, but the best course of action for these NPC's I think would be to just give them random loot streams, also removal of glimmer cap. Setting exotic at say .9% chance of drop and legendary at say 2% rares 5% GIve other stuff to sell as well like energy for coins, weapon parts. And make the purchase of exotics require x amount of weapon parts and x amount of strange coin, this would make acquiring them a bit more tricky as one might not have the required parts at the time of the exotic drop. Also involve the gun smith in some new side mission, something this game is seriously missing side missions that is.

The ammo packs for one and rare fusion rifles on occasion for the exotic bounty. And i guess for newbies hes ight.

Make him like Xur, sort of. When you hit lvl 20 Let him sell a random selection of legendaries which you can buy for the normal vanguard or crucible mark cost. So if you don't like the pistol effects that are listed from the vanguard vendor you could check out the weapons smith and see if he has a pistol that suits you better. No cheaper or more expensive. Just exactly the same cost. It's not a massive game changer, but keeps him still relevant in the game and doesn't break the game. Edit: but please don't let him sell exotic items. I would break the game.

          • How about instead of having the same ugly orange rifle, because it doesn't apply the shader, but it's a legendary so you use it instead of that rare something else, the gun smith could let you customize the appearence of the gun. afterall a legendary vangaurd pulse riffle that you got from a drop instead of purchasing doesn't look very cool when there is a version of it at rare, uncommom and common that are just slightly different, but not enough to notice in action. the idea of personalizing the perks would be awesome too, but i'd settle for just being able to make my legendary weapons LOOK legendary.

          • I read the grimoire card for the gunsmith and it said "there's not a gun he can't fix"......hmmm......makes me think that at one point Bungie might have been toying with the idea of damage to weapons and armor (similar to DCU online) where you would need to return occasionally to have your items repaired. I agree with you though - once you're above the high teens in level, the gunsmith becomes nothing more than a way to dump unwanted glimmer for ammo packs.

          • I still use the gunsmith for a lot of ammo stims. Plus, when grinding up that character before you start to get some weapons you will hold onto forever, its nice to have a place I can go grab a quick gun for a strike. Especially if there is a specific burn modifier on it.

            • He was originally supposed to sell weapon parts as well for upgrading stuff, not sure why they took that out but yeah, the only useful thing are ammo refills for raids.

            • Ah I was wondering this too. Until it hit me. The Gunsmith and other vendors offer relatively unimpressive guns. But upon looking closer, each one of these guns offer different stats like rate of fire and range and so on. So where would these guns do well in? The CRUCIBLE! Hear me out.... When you play crucible, (and Iron Banner, heh heh..jk) everyone's stats for weapons and armor are basically leveled out. Everyone seems to be on the same playing field. The only thing that is different are the stats for your guns.(as in range, rate of fire, stability and so on) This is where these common and uncommon guns come into play. If you can find a regular, common gun with superb range, rate of fire and stability but lack luster damage, keep it! That damage does not matter in the crucible as everyone is the same. The ONLY difference are weapons that have that one or two perks that carries over, like the Thorns lingering damage, or the Incentives regenerative ammo that I would consider bringing that along instead of a common. Now when i go into crucible, stats on guns, are all that I look at. Give it a try. You may be surprised with the results.

              • Same for the Cryptarch as well to be honest. There's no point in ever buying white or the occasional green engram when I'm picking up greens and dismantling them immediately. I got so much Sapphire Wire I could build a work of modern art in the Tower.

Diablo 3 had vendors that sold stuff. Sometimes it was better than what I had so id upgrade... Makes sense to me.

                • Replace him with agent of nine and have him sell exotics for only 12 hours. That's a good idea. But make them cost like 20000 glimmer plus 7 coins so people stop bitching

                • Wth would they let you buy exotic weapons to vanquish the galaxy at the gunsmith. He's there for the earlier players leveling up their characters in the campaign. Then you move on to drops. Strikes and raids are your gunsmiths
