Once you get to say level 15 the gunsmith becomes well redundant. He never has anything of use to sell other than ammo refills.
Why bungie could you not have given him a random loot stream which involved exotics and legendary. I hate it when games make characters that have a 2 min role but never leave the game.
Just a thought give him a random loot stream and mix up the currency used, so many use them.
What does everyone else think?
(update)
I realize I should have said Gaurdian outfitter as well, I have more emblems that I care for but shaders are in short supply. I guess I didnt mention her because I forgot she even existed. Don't get me wrong I don't want things handed to me I like the idea of earning things but why do people think that going out and collecting glimmer or other bits such as strange coins to purchase an exotic is not earning it, if you ask me it's far more earned than all the little turds out farming loot caves for engrams. I am not asking for there to be an exotic up for grabs every day just make him and her have some more value to the end gamers.
(update #2)
Can we please stop posting the obvious now, we all know he sells ammo and has a small role in a bounty these two very small points do not make his role in the game anymore relevant. I would love to to see more interaction with all the NPC's, but I think the GUNSMITH should be one of the more relevant NPC's of a SHOOTER. Having him build guns or change perks simply would not work in this iteration of the game. Why? well that ability would render exotics redundant and pointless cause we could all just make one no need to find/earn/buy them.
I think the future games will have far more customization, but the best course of action for these NPC's I think would be to just give them random loot streams, also removal of glimmer cap. Setting exotic at say .9% chance of drop and legendary at say 2% rares 5% GIve other stuff to sell as well like energy for coins, weapon parts. And make the purchase of exotics require x amount of weapon parts and x amount of strange coin, this would make acquiring them a bit more tricky as one might not have the required parts at the time of the exotic drop. Also involve the gun smith in some new side mission, something this game is seriously missing side missions that is.

They could have xur sell some more exotic exotics while the gunsmith can sell more common ones like thorn etc
-
I kinda agree but not entirely the last paragraph made me agree there
-
He should be role into the vanguard gun seller dude.

A comment concerning update 2. Ammo packs are a huge roll and very essential. Did you ever stop to think that was his real purpose for max level toons? (And it is a damn useful purpose too!) I always cringe a bit when I hear someone say, "i don't have any ammo or ammo packs" partly because there isn't much else to spend glimmer on and there is a guy in the tower that basically just does that.

Pocket Infinity bounty.

I would like the fact that you would be able to gather weapons parts by finding it or by dismantling weapons (random based weapon parts) and that you can give that to the gunsmith to make you a weapon (which would take time... 24hr countdown timer). Based on the rarity of your weapon parts he could tell you already what class it would become rare, legendary or even exotic (mind you that exotic weapon parts would be hard to find). But, at least you would already know if you might get a legendary or an exotic before you decide to wait for 24hrs :p
-
Lol. If he sold legendarys and exotics...that would suck
-
He should sell gun shaders. And gum.
-
I agree. He needs some longevity and relevance.
-
yes this is a good idea its pretty lame these people have no purpose
-
I agree this would add another aspect to logging in every day to play. Not just for gear but to fully utilize the game world. It would be nice for them to offer legendary stuff even if it was for a super short window.
-
he should have a gun mod or craft option
-
How about the gunsmith offering quests to allow you to customize your weapon? As in being able to change a perk on it? I Love my A.1 scout but would really prefer a different 2nd perk instead of utterly useless last round does blah blah blah
-
What if you could buy weapon parts from him or something?

Edited by D T F T: 10/15/2014 1:36:15 PMI completely agree with you! The gunsmith should be able to sell exotic and legendary guns for a few hundred glimmer at least. Also he needs to be able to forge my guns in front of me because that's cool. AND he should be able to make my gun look, smell, and feel different based off of the position of the moon. Make these updates or I'll go back to pokemon.

whats the point in this game its shit
-
Love your name btw

Edited by TurrdBurglar: 10/15/2014 11:58:26 PMI think it's mostly for the beginning then once you get one your feet they want you to get everything via RNG, strikes, raid etc.
-
What's you psn so we can play together btw are you on ps4?
-
I see your point. While I don't have a solution or even a good idea for him, I think he has to offer something useful to the high level players....
-
Ammo synthesis us all I use that creep for.

Edited by Marathon: 10/15/2014 2:37:41 PMNeed weapon parts fast? Buy weapons from him, then dismantle. Edit: he should also sell rares since those are the only items that are....."RARE".
-
The gunsmith offers weapons for lower level players. I don't see how that hurts the playing experience for higher level players. If he doesn't have anything you want to buy you can just ignore him and not buy anything. I don't buy new ships every day, but I don't complain about the Shipwright existing. In fact, the only venders I deal with on a regular basis is the Cryptarch and the Bounty Tracker, but I have no problem with there being more than those character around.

I'd like to see what Banshee-44 could do with the Stranger's Rifle (300 Attack please? Heh)...
-
The gunsmith is for investment. For example, I have 25k and can't even turn in my cryptarch "pass me your random alien shit, collect $200" so why not visit the old gunsmith to invest in some random guns to aid my weapon parts stash and free up the good old wallet
