let's be real here.

I'm 26 years old, and my experience with games is predominantly with first person shooters( battlefield), and mmorpgs like Warcraft which heavily relied on team-based gameplay and communication for success. Having read many of the posts so far I can safely say that most players will never reach end-game gear or dungeons assuming Bungie is designing raids and flash points like their predecessors. Frankly, those who have played MMOs know it doesn't matter how much time is spent playing this game ( as many are already going to be spending 100+ hours per week lol). I will be discussing the top reasons below: 1) Maturity. Players who are highly tolerant of failure, never succumbing to hissyfits are much more likely to find a spot with serious clans. 2) Focus. This means no excessive chatter about nonsense, seeing issues as they arise and correcting them without someone telling you to, constructive guidance of team mates, etc. Especially during the final 20% of the boss's health, how many people start to panic in that critical moment? 3) Raid Awareness. Seriously this is probably the most important reason most never succeed. You simply are not aware of all the going-ons in your environment. Where your teammates are, where the enemies are, how the battle map is changing, what's being said on the microphone by the leaders and key players, all happening simultaneously. Raiding is a multi-tasking activity. These are my primary reasons for now, but as raiding exists right now, and this is not coming from an elitist perspective- no matter how many hours you put in, experience with COD or being "lone wolves" will not give you an advantage. Most will most likely get groups, but never advance, and this is why games like Warcraft had to cater to bad players through matchmaking and dumbing down end-game content.

          • I like your points, I agree to the fact that, no matter how many hours you sink into a game there will be parts you will never get into. For example you mentioned WoW, I played that game for about 2 yrs On and off, I know my rotations etc etc, what annoys me is that even with mm I couldn't get into raids, why? Cos the raid leader would asks me do I know the raid and have I played it before. Being honest I would say no. Then I was kicked out, lack of experience he said, well then how was I to get experience if no team would let me join them? This elitist nature was what made me stop playing wow. I just hope Destiny doesn't follow this path.

          • The OP makes good points. But let us also look at it for what it is. A game! It is not life or a job (for most of us.) It is something that is ment to entertain people. And having things not accessible because people don't have the time they would like to dedicate to a game because of things like a job. I will use mine for example. I am a machinist, I put in 60+ hours at work a week. I don't have a choice in how many hours I get as it all depends on what the military needs and what the oil & gas and transportation industries need. Now that understand what my job is lets talk about what goes on at home. I am 28 years old married, no children(not any more long story). Now that have a good rough picture of my life it will surprise you to know that I put in up to 3 hours a night Mon-Fri and 12+ hours on Saturday and Sunday it depends if I have to go to work and how long I am there. However to get this kind of play time I am only sleeping 3 to 4 hours a day. This lack of sleep came as a result of mmos and the hardcore/elitist asshats (as I call them). I wanted to get into the raids and instances of the various MMOs I have played. In Aion I became one of the strongest assassin in of the NA servers took 2nd in the assassin 1v1 tournament. Got my dps so high no tank was able to hold hate off me unless I let them. Carried whole parties through instances because I could. Yet nobody would take in on an endgame raid because I didn't have the time to dedicate to preparing for hours just to attempt a raid. This is the exact reason I quit WoW, Aion, FFXI just to name a few.

            • Well guardian I'm glad to have found this thread as I know now there is another guardian who I perceive worthy enough to take on a raid. I will gladly say that it will be an honor to die or fight with you on the battlefield. Again great post it is just relieving to know that someone else knows strategies and can see what bungie is attempting to build and the overall immaturity of some players

              • (OP-Quote:) "...I can safely say that most players will never reach end-game gear or dungeons..." why not? as the respawn-system is that hilariously forgiving - even in it's lol-easy "restricted"-mode - i don't see why those kiddoz couldn't succeed there too. :(

              • I agree...I work and have 3 kids and I take the word friend to be literal so I don't have any system friends because none of my actual friends can afford the systems. And I don't answer friend request cuz most tend to be immature yahoo's. I'll friend u for the day for the missions but when I turn the game off ur unfriended. Iono

                • I so so so much agree with you sir! People who come from CoD or any of these other games are going to have a bad time when it comes to raids cause trust me I've talked with some Bungie folks and they have told me straight up that these raids are seriously going to test your skills and that YOU WILL need to work as a team in order to win. You cant just go out lone wolfing everywhere you will just end up getting killed and possibly screwing up your whole team in the process. Luckily I convinced my Competitive team from Battlefield to come on here and we have built chemistry together and know how to communicate and work as a team so we are ready to take on the Glass Vault. Team work and communication is a big thing when it comes to stuff like raids, and I'm glad Bungie put the no matchmaking idea in so in a way they are forcing people to matchup with people they know so they possible have a better chance at winning.

Let's be real here, this is all great, but we also forget that games most important element: fun. You start taking things too seriously, like that Leroy Jenkins video, it kills it. Let people make their mistakes, figure things out for themselves, and have fun doing it. People who put 100+ hours a week are not playing and having fun, they are working.

Until I play the raid myself I'm not buying the difficulty. I'm sure there are other games you could use to compare destiny too but the closest in my mind is borderlands. Unless they completely revolutionize fps pve I don't see it being as hard as they say. Borderlands had some hard moments but I haven't really heard too much about that game being impossible for anybody. All that being said destiny hasn't released and and we won't know till we play. Edit. Whole point was I wouldn't be surprised if good players could bs their way through. This isn't wow with a massive amount if abilities and passive ones

My friends and I have been playing together for many years. All we do is bullshit about random nonsense and mark my words, we'll get through these Raids same as everyone else.

                                • Instant gratification is never as rewarding as working towards a goal you eventually achieve. Some of us still realize this. You want instant gratification? This game is full of that. A small portion may require above average skills and superior team coordination. This is a good thing. Having everything handed to you doesn't make you better, it just makes you feel special when in reality, you aren't. You're getting handed everything just like everybody else. You are the same as everybody else. I don't want to feel special. I want to be special. Let's reward those capable of doing what many others can't instead of just dumbing it down so it can be accomplished by all. I'm sick of mediocrity being rewarded. It's like giving medals to the losing team in pee-wee soccer.
