Destiny Misinformation & Speculation

Please note that everything I talk about here is from prior experience and knowledge. There are some things I could be incorrect on. So feel free to correct me and link an official source on said information. Now lets get into it. Some things that have been going around are the level cap, size of the game, and low resource gathering( I.E. glimmer and crucible marks). First lets talk about resources. I have seen many complain at how hard it is to farm due to how low you get them. Turn to RPGs more notably MMOs. In them gold and PvP points(marks, honor, etc) are scaled. For those that don't know that means the amount you get is dependent on your level. Meaning the higher your level the more you get. That is why at the moment in the beta we can't earn a whole lot. Next I'll talk about the level cap and the games size. This is a subject of hot debate as we truly can not know the size nor the cap of the game as of yet. Now from what we know the beta is only a very small portion of the game. But as we have seen from vendor items and legendary items obtained from the iron banner these items do not exceed 20. But that makes little sense. Why? Look at some of the items vendors sell. The gunsmith as well as the engram decrypter(excuse me if I'm a bit off on this), they have only low level items for sale. Lets also look at the Shipwright she may not have much to sell, but(forgive me if I'm wrong) she sell ships and sparrows at a price that would be laughable at higher levels. You may be wondering where I am going with this. Yes, it has much to do with the level cap. I say that what we have been show may only be what Bungie wants us to see. Why? Well look at the size of the beta, of which Bungie stated that it's only 10% of the game. Again 10% , if 20 were really the level cap, then we would reach it regardless of leveling speed before even reaching the halfway point of the games story. Edit: Afterwards I learned that 20 is the cap so to speak. through a stat called Light you can gain "levels" past the cap. But you still earn experience after the cap. after earning a levels worth of experience you gain motes of light that can be used to purchase gear. Plus level 15 being the unlock point for the second subclass. 5 levels wouldn't be enough to even max and master it. Each skill unlocks when a level is "gained". Currently the unlocks slow to the point of no longer unlocking, due to high experience requirements. So with my final thoughts. The resource gain will get better with the full game, and the level cap is higher than we have been lead to believe. I hope this thread removes doubts and confusion. Feel free to discuss this further and try to stay open minded. See you all planetside fellow Guardians.

  • I just learned the same bit about notes if light and stuff. Though I have to say, having the skills/perks level separate from the main leveling system feels... perplexing...

    • The leveling up will be slower in the full release.

      • Level cap id definitely 20 and is meant to be reached very fast. Try Guild Wars as a comparison. All super ultra legendary stuff is 20. I also wouldn't be to sure about mat/money gains increasing at higher levels. There are lvl 20 zones all over Old Russia, also indicating what the cap is. I found at least 4 entrances to the underground cavern system of death. Also, 2 sealed off areas that clearly have a name etc. You are supposed to reach 20 fast so only skill and gear coming from said skill in the "top tier" challenges is what you are testing, not a level number. This aspect seems to be fairly heavily inspired by the first Guild Wars. It is a shooter at heart. Bungie seems to be aware that a long level tree and twitch based shooting does not mix well. The biggest compromise are Strikes/Raids and even those hopefully really more on skill then gear checks. So yeah, the cap should be 20 imo, it should stay there and there are multiple other progression systems you can use to satisfy those number obsessed.

          • After some recent news from Bungie people are getting confused on the reward for participating in the beta on the 26th. It is an emblem, it was stated as such a week before the beta went live. Although if Bungie decided to we could get more but don't get your hopes up.

          • If you want quick Glimmer, play Crucible. Playing Strike's or Free roam doesn't seem like it is going to net you much Glimmer, but Crucible killllllllllllllls it with Glimmer. Crucible marks are given at the correct rate, because Bungie know that those people who play Crucible a lot, will be playing Crucible A LOT. Item levels? Well this is the Beta, we don't know what the final Item levels will be. Also it's not like the items will scale infinitely, there is GOING to be a damage limit and Armor limit. It will be finding items with awesome abilities that will give you the edge. There has been several images and videos of Guardian's who are higher than level 20. Level 20 seems to be the soft limit, and once you get to Level 20 you continue to level up but you start to gain things called "Motes of Light" instead of stat increases.

            • Level 20 is the "soft" cap. I am not entirely sure but you level after 20. I have seen it go as high as 29 in the ign teaser.

              • Yes, the level cap is twenty, but after you reach twenty, you gain things called motes of light rather than experience. You can level up past twenty with these motes of light. Just take a look at the Speaker. He sells items that require motes of light.

                • I know the level cap is 20. But i really feel like it would be WAY to easy to hit the level cap. Noting that there are 2 expansion packs and an obvious 3rd subclass. I wouldn't doubt that Bungie has something up their sleeves. Maybe an update to the cap. Or an add on level increase like in Borderlands 2

                    • Im pretty sure the lvl cap is confirmed. The speaker in the left wing has a shop which requires special currency. In the description of the currency it says (obtain by gaining experience after level 20). In my opinion that means 20 max

                      • You know what? Let's not "get into it." Either buy the game or don't. No one cares at this point. No one wants to read another whining, complaining, I-know-better-than-Bungie speculative rant. ( Google speculative if you have to...) So no. Let's just let all the silly questions and absurd assumptions ( you know what happens when you assume, right?) die - right here, right not. Just buy it or don't.

                          • what i find much more stupid than the low levelcap (which i am pretty sure wont really be a problem in the full game) is the fact (i think) that when they first presented the game, didnt someone from Bungie give the feeling that the game would be an open world experience, like "everything you see, you can check out" !?! and then (at least in the alpha and beta) you have not only invisible walls but also lots of Deathwalls and even that -blam!-in' TURN BACK COUNTER?! that shit was obsolete 10 years ago already....

Currently the unlocks slow to the point of no longer unlocking, due to high experience requirements. This is totally incorrect. Abilities in the AC unlock separately from your class level. The reason they stop, is there is a cap on the number of abilities you can get in Beta. That number is 14. After you earn the 14th ability, your AC no longer gains XP. It has nothing to do with low level enemies, it just stops gaining XP due to a Beta limit.

                                  • Cap means nothing if they have a gear system similar to FF14 and item lv is what matters, either way I'm not concerned what lv I can achieve as long as the game is fulfilling and fun.

                                    • First off, level 20 IS the level cap. But after you reach level 20, you can gain light levels. These boost your overall level above 20. All items have a level cap of 20, though
