Some members are complaining about "wait, you want ME to clean up this mess?" when it comes to their Experience Tools. Makes me laugh.
We ninja have been doing our damndest for them for years and now that they see and have to pick up after themselves, do they appreciate what we did for the..... wait, this is "the parent rant" isn't it?
Nevermind. Actually, no. Feel free to discuss.
I remember when I was a member, I was eager and would have nearly crapped myself if I had been given a tool that not only took disruptive members out of my site (immediately) but my use of it combined with others to eventually get that disruption off of the site (public and private) altogether? Oh, I would have been thrilled.
People complained that "the report system didn't do anything" when they didn't SEE a post immediately hide. Now that it does, they don't seem to want to have to do it. "Someone ELSE should be doing this, making MY experience what I expect."
For those of you who see these tools for what they are (unprecedented power to the people) thank you. Your silent and valuable efforts populate our workqueue, take people out of your sight and the sight of others, and for that, THIS fellow member is grateful. Thank you.

You take this site far too seriously and are too big of a hypocrite. Your site is pathetic, but your mindsets are even more so. It's a shame Bungie required all of their affiliates to have botched lobotomies.

I actually never mute anybody, but I also stay out of the Flood...
-
Those new tools are awesome. We'll finally get some consistency among moderators. If we can get the forum structure that we had before back as well, it's going to be amazing.
-
Cleaning a room isn't a good metaphor, it takes work. This is more doing Laundry.

I like the new system. It seems like it gives you and all the other Ninja's more opportunity to be part of the community.
-
So... uhh... what are you guys are here for then? We hide posts, and apparently hid posts are put into a report queue. Why even have mods? Just make it an automated system. Tons of problems would come with that, I guess. But still, why have so many ninjas? Might as well just have 5 or so instead of the 20 or whatever there is right now.
We ninja have been doing our damndest for them for years
dohohohoh, good one recon.
-
#wheremyninjasat I do find it quite amusing that people think its too much work to moderate their own experience. Trust us, its gonna be awesome for you to do so. Eventually, you'll weed through the trolls and individuals you don't want to see and your experience will be awesomely catered toward your likes and dislikes. No two users will have the same experience with Bungie.net and that, my friends, is spectacular. Its all about you. We'll still be here to kick the asses of those with malicious intent though. We got your back.

Actually, related to what I said to Ken, does hiding a post add it to some form of report queue? I can't find a real summary of the rules or how it all works anymore.
-
Complaining about complainers complaining.
-
Recon, we're grateful. And I appreciate what the moderators have done over the years. I think it's less about how we have to do the work though, and more about... 1. Nobody knows how the system works. If more people knew that hiding posts did send them to a report queue still, people would just go 'oh, so it's a report button that ALSO hides it from me. Cool!' 2. The rules are lax. So people are very confused as to what is still allowed, and are seeing things that were previously 'bad' go by. I think it'll take a little time before people realize what the new situation is. Please, you moderators, don't take it as anybody being ungrateful. Because that is simply not the case. Please take it in stride that we believe you were doing a great job with what you had, and we're scared of change.

It boggles my mind. Here we've been handed tools to completely eliminate shitposting and even customize everything we see before it's posted, and people are upset that they no longer have to rely on someone else to do the exact same thing in a less timely manner (sorry)? I can think of a few reasons why this revamp is a bad thing, but unless the filtering process becomes automated and turns bnet into a reddit style combination popularity contest and cesspool, this is one of the best things I could have imagined happening to the site.
-
As long as the people breaking the rules are stopped I am happy. If a guy is posting NSFW stuff or spamming the forums, I think it is more important how everyone can be helped, not me individually.
-
I love this new hide/mute system. I used to get a headache from seeing an obviously troll not getting collapsed, now I can make obvious trolls disappear instantly! This is one of the features I really like so far.
-
Recon, now that we can hide/mute posts and members, does that make you guys obsolete?
-
Recon is that you?
-
Umad bro? Just kidding anyways I like the new feature.
-
I love the new approach to moderation, the rules are more lax, so while people can be bigger jerks, I get the option to pretend they don't exist - while at the same time, be not even pretending, I don't know why people are complaining. #FollowKalriq4HighQualityPosts

I kind of like some of the new things. But something that will be abused though is the blocking system. People are very picky at what others have to say so they'll just end up blocking quite a bit of people. Considering that it has only been just over a day with these changes it'll hardly be noticeable. But let's say a few months from now, there will be an extension to that list, and it might wind up confusing people when it comes to posting (if it's the way I imagine it).
-
So do you still have any moderation responsibilities now?
We ninja have been doing our damndest for them for years and now that they see and have to pick up after themselves, do they appreciate what we did for the..... wait, this is "the parent rant" isn't it?
I lol'd.

Recon seems upset. I personally love the new system though. It should make the site more effective, especially when no mods are present.

I actually expected a thread about cleaning a room. How strange. Perhaps the moaners feel this way because it isn't very overt that the hide and mute stuff actually does work for the site, and not just for the user hiding it. Or they might just miss that interaction with the always lovely and never angry ninjas.
