Hand cannons need some love!

As much as I love them, there's little reason to bring a hand cannon into the wild these days. And sure, they can still be effective, but the lack of accuracy at medium range and nearing zero effectiveness beyond that makes them a poor alternative to scout and pulse rifles. I'm not saying they should be on par with scout rifles at range, for example, but the recent nerf was excessive and introduced to element of luck in hand cannon use that is just not fun. This applies to pvp too. So while they did need reigning in somewhat (mostly exotics in the Crucible), the current solution is not the answer. Nerf the class in other ways if needs be, but I'm tired of having bullets miss completely when sighted dead on the targets head at distances a pistol should be effective in. So come on, Bungie - there's room to give them a buff without stepping on other weapon's toes.

I agree. Hand Cannons needed to be reformed, but the current specs make the class as a whole less competitive than other weapons. The range fix/damage falloff was a good fix. That worked and was needed. The realignment nerf (after firing a shot, when it takes an extra moment to realign the gun even AFTER the recoil) really kills me... literally, at least in crucible. It's especially bad on the Hawkmoon, where even with max accuracy it STILL pulls to the right if you rapid fire. Hand Cannons should be well suited to short and mid range. I use an Imago Loop, but it has maxed out Stability, and that's the only to make sure the shots go where I aim.

Thorn has never failed me in Crucible. The few times I do play it I continue to have fun using Thorn, usually always finishing top of my team or mvp of both sides or having the highest K:D running around with it. I would like to use Hawkmoon more, but Thorn never fails me. And it's still funny seeing people panic while poisoned, I can only imagine some of their thoughts during and after the effect lol.... Unless a noob rolls up with a shotgun my Thorn is pretty much taking them all out. Only time in Crucible I'm not using Thorn or Hawkmoon is in Iron Banner or Trials, then my No Time to Explain came out and wrecked... As for PVE I find myself using Byronic Hero(explosive rounds(does more total damage per shot than my high caliber perk on everything but bosses), active radar) or now my newly acquired Imaglo Loop(explosive rounds, firefly, rescue mag). Only time I'm not using these hand cannons is when I'm fighting death singers or oryx then the Touch of Malice comes out And I don't even know if I ever noticed the changes of the hand cannons, I never tried to snipe with them, but no problems with short/medium range...

    • My only gripe is the initial accuracy nerf. Having your first shot be a wildcard may mean the battle is over before it started. I mean if your opening shot misses artificially, then every engagement is RNG.

      • Right now I feel that HCs are fine in a PVE setting, with the right perks they can be just as devastating as year 1, for example look at imago loop, you can acquire this gun with both firefly and outlaw making it perform the same as Fatebringer. The raid HC is also pretty good with firefly it's only flaw is reloading which can be countered with the use of the cocoon perk. You just have to get use to not spamming your shots, you need to give a little bit of leeway between shots to let the gun 'reset.' In PVP HCs need some love, the loss of accuracy when spamming really hurt them, if you try to aim for the head and spam you hit maybe once, if you give it that leeway and time your shots your dead before you can get a 3rd head shot. So they are kind of operating at a loose loose state right now.

We all act as if handcannons arent the ultimate precision weapon. A class of weapon that on average have 7-8 bullets. Headshots make and break this weapon. The changes made just are bad... Paced shots, close range, slow fire rate!!! I don't see that style of gun ever being viable. Not even to mention the ninja nerf to accuracy, where the bullet literally doesnt go where your reticle points to. The class sucks now, and Hawkmoon is only viable because of the bonus damage rounds.

          • The accuracy at close to mid range should be restored to what it was before 2.0. Long distance shots should be as they are now. Damage fall off is fine as is.

            • They need to fix the accuracy. The damage fall off was fine, but if I'm clearly aiming at their head it should hit them in the head at any range. The damage fall off should be what effects the outcome.

            • Bump. They need to bring back the short to midrange accuracy.

            • Agreed. Pulse rifles and scouts everywhere these days. I love hand cannons and on my way to getting Ace of Spades. P.S. The raid hand cannon is mediocre at best. Please make them more useful again in both PVP and PVE.

              • Hand Cannons couldn't be in a more perfect spot. Hawkmoon is still pretty good (overused but not too OP though), Ace of Spades is GR8, Imago Loop (mine has spray and play, hammer forged, and firefly), Byronic Hero (managed to roll a triple tap, third eye, and explosive rounds). Hand cannons are good where they are PVP wise. They're just fine in PVE as well. They're not supposed to have the accuracy we all saw at the time of House of Wolves, and I am truly thankful that storm has passed. I hadn't seen anything that bad since the SUROS Regime days. Thorn and The Last Word finally got the nerf they needed. If anything, shotguns need a second look. Sure Shot Package may be gone, but a high impact Shotgun with Rangefinder (the Conspiracy Theoried at 300 attack that you easily get for doing the strike quest) is still quite a problem with its one shot range capabilities.

                • I'm an avid Hawkmoon user, always have been. Since TTK 2.0 it's EASIER to kill people in Crucible than before.

                • I just used thorn in a super close quarter map. I'm very good with thorn and finished pretty strong but I got beaten by pulse riffles a few times in short range. I don't understand why the hand cannons had to be nerfed this much just because 3 handcannons ruled the competive scene for a few months.

                  • I feel like they sit well where they are now. Everyone is just too used to the ranges they once dominated at. Just begin using them as a more close to mid range weapon, instead of low-mid to high range. I was actually very pleased with this nerf, because variety is back in the crucible, but you still see people running HC on those close quarters maps.

                    • I can somewhat agree, though in a very specific way. The sights seem screwed, may be the particular weapon, but anyway you have to aim slightly above the head to make your mark. Which communicates poorly and is annoying.

                    • I agree somewhat. It's nice seeing the other weapons viable in comparison, but my biggest gripe with HC's now is they're no longer reliable. When you have a 7 shot clip, having one or two bullets just not hit the target in your sights due to an accuracy nerf isn't much fun. Especially when the other guns, including auto rifles, don't seem to have that issue at all.

bungie made pulse rifles for people that can't aim because they wanted to include casuals, and they said this at game launch last year. they could have nerfed thorn and perhaps the accuracy or range of last word. instead, they destroyed an entire category.

                        • the funny thing is if everyone starts using pulse rifles there will be enough 12 year olds to cry about it until they get nerved as well... and same with scout then auto rifles... i say stop -blam!-ing with our weapons fix the lag switchers and ill be happy

They did get hit a little hard, use hand cannons on my Hunter all the same, but now its a pain to find hand cannons that are halfway decent...Bionic Hero = feels like trash to me personally. Have to go do Crucible for Eylsuna or get Imago Loop. Yeah I am used to year 1 but why punish us when we are dead on and no hit marker? Thorn and The Last Word had their own individual nerfs so why nerf the rest of the hand cannons?
