What's the REAL value?

First, let's break down the amount year-one players have had to pay to play Destiny. (Not taking into Consideration the original Collector's Edition bundle)
$60 – Destiny = ~37% of total cost $35-$40 – Dark Below & House of Wolves = ~25% of total cost $40 – The Taken King = ~25% of total cost $20 – Collector's Edition exclusive Digital Content = ~13% of total cost $155-$160 TOTAL
Now, let's compare this to the Collector's Edition Bundle and estimate the values using our previous model as a guide and assuming that in this bundle, the physical goods are going to account for at least 10% of the total cost (or otherwise be free. I'll provide both examples.)
$80 TOTAL (80 x 0.375)=$30 – Destiny (80 x 0.25)=$20 – Dark Below and House of Wolves (80 x 0.25)=$20 – The Taken King (80 x 0.125)= ~$10 – Collector's Edition Exclusive Digital Content $(Free?) – Collector's Edition Physical Goods OR (80 x 0.35)=$28 – Destiny (80 x 0.22.5)=$18 – Dark Below and House of Wolves (80 x 0.22.5)=$18 – The Taken King (80 x 0.10)= $8 – Collector's Edition Exclusive Digital Content (80 x 0.10)= $8 – Collector's Edition Physical Goods
Now... Bungie is a business, and any reasonable business wouldn't promote a product that wouldn't turn a profit. And if we are to assume Bungie considers this bundle to be profitable, then we can determine that the prices above are indicative of the value Bungie attributes to each piece of content. Now I understand that over time, games have a tendency to lose some of their initial value, but to be cut more than half? Especially for a game as popular as Destiny? I don't think I need to draw conclusions for you. My proposal: Keep the Collector's Edition Digital Exclusives as a separate option, that much is obvious. However, lower the price to a more reasonable $10. It's still more than the proposed value inherent in the Collector's edition bundle, and within an acceptable price range allowing for purchase by a greater number of players. I feel this is more than fair. I appreciate your responses and await your discussion. • I'm a numbers guy, currently a math major. I didn't check these myself and look super close, but at a glance, this looks like it's correctly done. I support these calculations. Honestly, what they said would be in that $20 extra pack felt like it was way overpriced anyways...

The problem im running in to during this whole debate is value. I would argue that TDB and HOW both consisting of largely reused content were not worth 20$ a piece. Basically we paid for what we already had. With TTK we have no real information to base overall value on. Bungie can say is the size of TDB and HOW all they want to but realistically that's not saying alot based on the actual amount of new content that we got with the previous two dlcs.

    • Charging the same price as a full DLC is riduclous. If you look at the portion of a DLC which would make up these shaders and class items, it would probably be less than $1.

Basically boils down to a monthly fee. Game is not good enough to me for them to bathe in profits. I quit playing wow when Kung fu pandas were introduced..and it felt like a second job. This game is nowhere -blam!-ing near worth a monthly recurring charge to play. Sure feels like a second job though. Season pass is over. *middle finger*

        • I think most of what you've said is spot on, couldn't agree more with the values. I know games love to do an end of year 'Game Of The Year Edition' that includes the original game and all the available expansions but for £60? That's such a big deduction, you could say this is possible because the Veteran players are paying over the top with £40 for The Taken King alone, making up for that tasty deficit. I certainly won't be scammed out of a further £20 for some digital items. I personally would be happy with a £25-£30 price tag for the taken king and maybe £7.50 for those exclusive items. I cannot justify those prices, even if I was to force myself to pay what they're asking I'd feel ashamed that I gave in and knowingly overpaid for something that didn't warrant that value. Good thread, it made for good reading. Thanks.

I would be perfectly fine at 8-10 they are only for looks it won't give you and edge against Oryx or anybody for that matter. Wondering if the 20 was a typo because that is the price for a normal DLC. I appreciate that they heard us but they kinda twisted it into their favor.

              • TBH, the goodies should be free, and TTK should be $30 as the separate purchase. In order to use TTK, you must buy the first two expansions so no quick thinking scrub can just buy TTK with no other expansions. They will get their money this way. I can whole heartedly guarantee that TTK will not be half of the vanilla game, but due to the steep prices of Bungie's add ons, $30 seems like a win for us, and a win for them, calculating veterans tickets to reach $125. Don't be sheep blinded the shiny object.

                • Why don't the rest of you whom are still playing that eternal grind fest, Man-Up and remove your ball sacs from Deej's and BungiVisions soft, warm hands.... You all keep complaining about the relentless unfairness (after all did they not from pre-release tell us that this game would evolve from heavily relying on gamer input)... Show them whom is honestly and truly in control... Everyone move over to ESO for six months until they see the loss of profits, directly resulting from their lack of listening to us gamers... Then see how fast they want to make right and listen

I just wish they had a veteran's collectors edition that had the same physical stuff as the one that's being sold now, while replacing the vanilla destiny and first two DLC'S with a season pass for the next two DLC'S planned for after TTK. Could've priced that at $100 and still kept the newcomer collectors version at $80. Surprised they didn't do that, but otherwise, couldn't care about the rest. Edit: The Blacksmith shader alone is going for $80-$100 on eBay. I'm sure they factored that into deciding on the price. If the demand is there, they're gonna sell it for what they think it will sell for.

                  • Why aren't we just gifted these emotes. Why should we have to pay $20 when we have spent at least $100 and $40 more with TTK. I think $140 is enough and way better a profit than $80 with collectors edition. If I would have known that Activision would do this I would of held off buying this game. I love destiny and I am slowly giving up on the customer support they're supposed to be showing us. But we'll just "throw our money at the screen."

                    • $10 for 3 emotes, class items and shaders come on????. HOW and DB should have been $10 themselves. $15-20 for TTK and $5 for emotes, shaders etc. and $5 is being very very generous.

                        • Just saying, .375 + .25 + .25 + .135 adds up to 1.01. But yeah, it seems like bungie/activision is overvalued the digital collector's edition. Maybe if they added in that gun pack thing from the collector's edition to the digital, I might buy it, otherwise, no thanks.

                            • What it really boils down to is the personal value to each individual player. Some people think it's worth it, some dont. Arguing the price tag is pointless, it all really comes down to varying opinion. I, personally, don't care about the extra stuff that comes with the collectors edition and will not be paying $20 for it. That's just how I feel though. Others may want to drop twenty for it

Your calculations are off. (80 x 0.375)=$30 – Destiny (80 x 0.25)=$20 – Dark Below and House of Wolves (80 x 0.25)=$20 – The Taken King (80 x 0.135)= ~$11 – Collector's Edition Exclusive Digital Content $(Free?) – Collector's Edition Physical Goods You are saying that the two expansions have lost zero value, while the original game dropped 50%. It's probably more like... (80 x 0.375)=$30 – Destiny (80 x 0.1875)=$15 – Dark Below and House of Wolves (80 x 0.1875)=$15 – The Taken King (80 x 0.25)= $20 – Collector's Edition Exclusive Digital Content $(zero - does not come with digital version) – Collector's Edition Physical Goods Edit: ignore me, I misread. Your math is right!
