Why don't people understand that the story isn't over

(This is a statement of facts that have already been said. This not me defending bungie in anyway. I don't like what they have done with destiny either wish there was more to the story for the money we spent. But the isn't an they don't seem to be changing it. So complaining about is not going to change it.) I'm getting tired of seeing posts about why the story is so short. When you finish the last mission it Cleary states that it's not over. On top of that bungie Has also said it's not over as well (dlc)(more games). For those who don't know bungie has a ten year Contract of updates so the story will not be over till 2024. Do I agree with the fact that there doing it that way no not in the least. But the facts are there so quit saying that the story is short. Edited I don't feel like you guys are reading the whole thing. I'm not saying that I like how they tell us the story with lots of dlc an a few more games to the story. But I'm just stating that there is more so quit saying that it's over. It's there way of getting money. Edited again Quit posting the same logic I posted with different words an try to make it seem like your right an I'm wrong. I know the story is short. I know that thy are trying to get are money out of it. But the fact of what I'm saying that it's not over. If you don't understand that don't post anything. Edited again This is literally just fact that is out there is no opinion to this. My opinion to this is yes it sucks how they tell the story. But this how they want to tell the story an there is nothing WE can do about it so stop complaining about the story.

  • The story sucks. So they should work on improving the story, universe, and lore in the DLC, and totally do things differently in the sequel. This is the place to give them the feedback that they've asked for, for example, "wtf Bungie, make a better story." So, that's why you see so many posts about it. And honestly, if you've been on the forums long enough to see how many folks post story related grievances, you should have known people were gonna tear into you for posting a thread like this.

  • It doesn't excuse lack of story on launch. And what have they done to add to the story? Nothing. And I'm not throwing 40 dollars at them to learn they're story when the main story is nothing but side missions. Hell I had a better adventure delivering food to the grey beards in skyrim!

The problem isnt that there is no story, it is that they have done such a poor job of telling/showing us that story. Clearly they must have put time into creating the world, the factions, races, the Guardian classes etc, but they have not adequately explained well...ANYTHING. The In Game story telling is bad. In the Halo games, there was seldom a moment that I didnt know why I was doing what I was doing. I understood my enemies motivations, that of my own people etc. Even as enigmatic a character as the chief, enough of his personality and history was given to me IN GAME that I didnt need to go read the companion novels (although eventually I did as they are cool) just to understand. I just really get the feeling that focus was given to the wrong aspects of this gane and that that has limited the story telling too. For example, the use of 'premiere' voice talent. Do you really care who voices mainly faceless characters in a videogame as long as the lines are delivered adequately? I like Dinklage in GoTs, but I dont think he particulary adds anything to role of the Ghost that a lesser known voice actor could have brought to it. My point is the cost involved in using top tv and film actors limits the amount of dialogue in game, which means we get less info about the story and world because bungie would then have to drip feed dialogue over the course of their expansions. Bungie has also tried to cover up their lack of decent story telling by being vague or downright obtuse on the Grimoire cards. Why are there no databases of information in the tower that you can look up? There are so many missed opportunities for engaging the players in the fiction of the Destiny world. Why doesn't the speaker periodically tell some legendary exploits of a famous Guardian that you can listen to? Why do missions have so little background? Jeez, I dont care if I have to read words on the screen, but those little sound bytes from the vanguard often tell us next to nothing. Flesh it out some, even with text. Do it old school with a picture of who is talking and scroll the text... just tell us something more! Look at how Bioware delivers story in Mass Effect games. Going to the database and reading about the politics of the council, its history, weapons, ships etc was awesome. Or if you really want to go down the 'mysterious' route give us more substantial reason why you can't divulge information rather than 'I can't be bothered' or 'I don't want to' it's insulting. Even if the speaker said you aren't ready yet, it would be than 'I could tell you, buuuuuut...I won't, so nyeh'. Tell us that only high ranking Guardians are initiated into knowledge of our overall goals. Or that 'only when your powers grow will you hear the voice of the traveller'. There should also be a map somewhere I the tower of territory we need to reclaim and who holds it (if known) that way would could have cool over view of our task, make it Feel like a crusade to 'push back the Darkness'. Meh am just rambling now. Point is, how the story is delivered needs to be improved. Text based would be the simplest to implement, even if it isnt as engaginging as audio ir cutscenes

    • Twilight has an award winning story when compared to destiny. The speaker:"I wish I could tell you." That female exo hunter you see twice: "I cant even explain why I cant explain." Not even the NPCs know what is going on.

      • What story? The "plot" they threw together in the last year makes no sense whatsoever.

      • The problem isn't that the story didn't end. The problem is that it didn't start. Titanfall's story made more sense--and that is pretty sad.

      • The current proportion of the story is horrible, if they honestly expect people to buy the next installment of the series for the next 10 years they are going to need to overhaul destiny. I'd rather buy the next installment in a cod series.

      • You're right and wrong. Personally, I think AngryJoe explains it well. The story may not be over and may have ten years to expand, however, that is no reason for the base game, costing 60 dollars, to have such a short and uninteresting story. Furthermore, we can't even make our own stories like we can in Skyrim because, while there are many caves and cool looking areas, there is usually no point in them. Thus leaving us grinding the same enemies over and over to make our own story.

      • I have no issue with the length of the story. I expected it to be short for this very reason. However, even with the grimoire, it has very little depth and feels both hastily and poorly written. Either way, the game is fun to play... I have my complaints, but it is fun!

      • They gutted so much stuff out its sad and heartbreaking they are making you buy the game over and over again thats already on the disk to begin with just locked until paid for. The greed is real. I dont see myself and a lot of other players paying for dlcs etc for 10 whole years. Just give us the whole damn game up front like we did with cash! But unfortunately they see us as dollar signs therefore making more money and profit off us by locking content already existing on the disk, they seen a opportunity to take advantage of us to squeeze us like lemons until they got all they can out of us players. The greed is real people.

      • The thing is that there was a story but bungie locked some of the content on the disk (the content that will be sold as dlc so no new things just things they removed to get extra money out of)

      • Stand by guardians, we hear your calls. We understand that a lot of you feel that the nerf to the story was uncalled for and that it no longer makes any coherent sense. Here at Bungle we strive to apply feedback we receive from our community as a whole, that's why we have this special announcement. This coming December we are going to give the story a 10% buff in content and it's all coming for the low, low price of $20. Stay tuned guardians, the future of density is
In your wallet
While the story isn't complete each installment should have a complete story with DLC adding more depth to the story. Take for instance Star Wars. Each movie was a complete story arc and together they make a saga. Episode 4 (the first Star Wars movie released) stood alone as a story. Gears of War 1 stood alone as a story. Destiny sans DLC (which people are assuming will add to the story). Is not a complete story. DLC shouldn't be required for a complete story. As the dalthraki say "this is known."

            • Take Lord of the Rings, hack it into 30 pieces and read them after rolling a number between 1 and 30. Gives as much sense as this 'story' telling.

                • THERE IS NO STORY! You go to planets. You find a terminal to link your scooter. Then you activate a tower, or a database ( in no way is that tower or info gathered going to help you recover the -blam!-ING Traveler ) and some Big Turkey with a big gun will come out who doesn't seem to DIE at all, then you finally kill it and it drops a Wax Idol which literally was made from its ear wax. YAY! then you go back to the town and a sexy robot girl tells you that it isn't over yet. The -blam!-Face with no face gives a speech about how guardians have to stand together and END SCENE. wait.... what did I really do all that time? mapping the continents... killing Vex Bosses.... What was that BLACK HEART thing... ummm... huh? Oh it's all going to be explained in the DLC? OHHHHHHHHHHH THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! Thank you Bungie... thank you SO MUCH. I love you

I understand your point, however its not just the content, its the delivery. Even dinklebot sounds bored out of his mind while he "decrypts" some random terminal and you fight waves of enemies...
