Prox chat griefing, WTF bungie.

The only thing I can find as to why prox chat/in-game voice is not in destiny is because of little kids and trolls griefing other players. Now I don't know about you but almost all of my online friends I met through random encouters, be it Xbox live or PSN or B.net. If every game had bungie's attitude toward socializing with people you DON'T know the online gaming community would be dead. If you don't like meeting new people and only want to play with those you do know maybe it's time you jump in your delorian, hit 88mph and have a lan party back in 90's EDIT: I think most of the nay sayers are missing my point. We all play online games Ps3, ps4, xbox 360, xbone, doesn't matter we all have a friends list, full of friends, made up of mostly people we met online in whatever game it is you play. If the various different games youve played over the years did what bungie is doing just how many people on your list would be gone? Never met because why? Well it's because all people who talk are annoying so voice chat should be removed. REALLY? ARE YOU PEOPLE KIDDING? I just don't buy it, I don't believe that none of you understand this. EDIT 2: /Game chat, if as one guy said they are bubbles, then turn the tower into a game chat bubble, only 16 players on your screen at any given time with an off option so its manageable, too many jackasses, orbit, back, new 16. Don't get me wrong im not just arguing prox chat, a open text based system in the tower would suffice, so long as there is some form of communication outside your fire team. As it stands without the ability to speak to "that cool lookin titan over there" this game is no more social then CoD or halo, infact it is less so since you can only communicate in game with those in your fireteam. EDIT 2.5: IMO Most griefers are CoD players, thats why I don't play CoD anymore (that and the game play went down hill really fast after CoD 4) I now seldom hear idiots screaming at other idiots, without the ability to 360 no scope in an mlg pro 1v1 lobby, those players will be gone soon enough.

  • No thanks proximity chat is for children. If they ever put it in, just give me the option to turn it off so I don't have to mute 100 scrubs a day. Why people want the ability to talk to every single person they run across is beyond me. Far more Cons than pros. It's a kiddie feature and I'm glad it's history (for now)

      • I also would have prefered to have prox chat as something we can control, sometimes you'll want it off while you wander with a specific purpose, other times you will want to be open to meeting the guardians working around you having fun doing similar things.

        • My hate for prox chat or voice chat in games in general is exactly as you say. Too many morons or kids just running their mouths, swearing randomly, playing their music or game volume too high, etc. If people would actually strategize or at least shut up or mute their mic, I would at least use my headset and if it seemed like the team was strategizing, I would too. Having mute in a game for voice chat is fine for me as long as it's very quick to mute some annoying jackass.

            • Yes, but having to constantly mute people , in GTA which has the same amount of players in a room gets old. I plan to play a lot more of Destiny then I do GTA Online, so I'm one that never wants this feature. At least never in the Tower, Would like it in PvP. Miss crouching in the base in Blood Glutch listening to the other teams strategy. Just to many children, trolls, an those godawful Kinect users that think it's a sufficient mic.

I can give you multiple valid points why proxy chat isnt in game. But i dont feel like typing a lot. Secondly, the idea of the game being 'social' doesnt mean being able to talk to others. Their idea of social is that you are always playing around/with others. You are never one. Here, ill make a Thread about this.

                      • I would like to have proximity chat in game, think will add something to it and if I don't like hearing some abuse or shrieking kid then will just walk away or mute. It is a way of making new friends and creating alliances to do strikes or raids. I think it needs to be added.

                      • Heres an idea. Everyone has everyone muted. Everyone can disable mute. You can now hear people.

                      • When you say "the only thing I can find," do you mean in the forums? As in posts by players? If so, I would think you're going about your search incorrectly. Bungie probably has reasons for not including this, covering (at least) technical and design aspects, which I doubt you'll find here.

                          • Sorry but I don't know how you can assume that people's friends lists are made up mostly of people we met online, that isn't always the case. 90% of my friends list is made up of people who I met IRL, and who I know personally. The rest are people who I met online. While I agree there needs to be voice chat in the game, you can't assume its because most of our friends are people we met online.

While I can see the advantage of proximity chat and how easy it makes things. On the other hand theres been a ton of hype about Destiny for almost 2 years, through the message board I've met tons of people. The lack of proximity chat isn't a big secret or surprise, I've noticed tons of people realizing this and using this forum to expand their friends list, join clans, organize static groups in preparation for Destiny launch. I'm sorry but people have time to post complaints that they won't find cool people to play with, but you have plenty of time to work on that now as many have started doing. For the lone wolf player that wants to enjoy the experience uninterrupted proximity chat could ruin their game, u can squad and talk all you want and not hinder their game experience. Also who knows what effect chat would have on lag issues, complications with party chat, the chatty guy that keeps talking while you're listening for enemies, the time you get fragged while trying to mute someone, The kid that drops a F-bomb or talks explicitly while your kids are sitting next to you faster then you can mute them and the alleged T for Teen rating? Yes proximity chat would make this all easier, I agree. But I feel we've all been given ample notice on how things will work and we can can organize now or we can complain over and over and say we have no one to play with. Honestly I think Bungie has heard the demand, and I'm almost 80% sure we will eventually see an update adding it. it's my opinion that they want to get the game released, plow through the data and then come up with the best way to implement the chat feature based on how the community plays. And my entire list of PS4 friends have come from Warframe, there is no proximity chat. You only chat with people you squad with, through this system I've met plenty of great players, friends, joined a clan and now we will probably expand on Destiny. For now I have no problem accepting a friend request or joining a squad, if I don't care for you I can easily delete you and leave the squad. Personally I haven't mastered the art of determining how well someone plays by the tone of their voice. <Edit>: from a technical standpoint, how do you make it work if you're in the tower or PvE and there are 5+ people in proximity talking at the same time or don't have their mic on mute?

                            • They stated during PAX that implementing proxy chat is not nearly as easy as it was in Halo. Maybe we'll see a patch for it later, or maybe it's already in the game, they know people want it.

                            • They do have a mute feature. ProxChat shouldn't be an issue. My thoughts on the mute feature: Why wud I mute my own fire team that only consists of 2-5 other peeps?

                            • To me, it was a sound decision to remove prox chat in PvE and PvP environments. It was primarily used as a means to belittle other players. However, you still have team chat for PvE and PvP. Invite people to your fireteam or join a Crucible match, you can talk to people there. Exactly, what is the issue? You want to make friends with the person dancing on your corpse in the Crucible? Perhaps the whiny brat screaming through his mic and ruining your PvE immersion? Was it the oh so classy I have my music turned all the way up, I sat my mic against a speaker, I wish I was a radio DJ guy in-game? You wanted to get to know the blatantly racist people pretending to be cool in front of their friends that you heard in the Cosmodrome? This is a non-issue.
