Anyone remember that quote? What ever happened to that? In the beta, countless times I drove my sparrow off a ledge to an area that looked explorable, only to find that going there just killed me. It felt like all of Old Russia was the size of Forge World from Halo. I hardly considerate it to be worthy of the "Open World" title. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the beta. The only thing that disappointed me was the explore mode. I expected to be spending most of my time in the game on explore, just, you know, exploring, but the gamemodes' name isn't really true to itself when you know the whole map of Old Russia after about an hour of gameplay. The "open world" in Destiny is a bit disappointing. I doubt those small areas that are blocked off will make the area feel much bigger, either. Anyone feel the same?
Edit: I made this thread right after the beta, before the game came out. Everyone got mad at me and freaked out. They all claimed, "It was just a beta." No-one really gets game betas that are available two months prior to release. Those aren't betas, they're demos. No-one believed me. Then, the game came out. And everyone began praising this thread. Funny.
I believe that if Destiny wasn't overhyped/over-advertised, AngryJoe wouldn't be flipping out. It is a GREAT game, it just doesn't live up to its pre-game hype. $1,000,000 was too much of an advertising fund, Activision.

Parts of old Russia was blocked off man,
-
That comment was made over a year ago. Things change while making a game. Maybe having it be too open would prevent you from following the story. Case in point, GTA. How many times have you been working on story missions to get side tracked by other things in a GTA title?
-
Anyone who excepted to go anywhere they could see is a little delusional. Granted, they never should have said that to begin with, but it was assumed they'd take that quote back. And this one map (out of four so far) is already bigger than forge world. Though, most portions were just driven straight through (who looked through every plane in the mothyards?). And there were at least three areas blocked off, two were straight walled off, and another was blocked by level 20 enemies (though, I got past and found it looped around to the other wise of the world, but I believe there were more branches down that way to explore).

i ordered you a fat black hooker. climb that mountain all you want.
-
Edited by Bladestorm35: 8/13/2014 1:00:49 AMIn all honesty...I really don't care if I can go climb a mountain in destiny or not. If I want to do that, I'll pop skyrim in. But even when they said that, I thought "alright. That's cool" but never really cared if I could because that doesn't really matter in the big picture!
-
Are you still getting the game?
-
It would be cool but its an exceptional game nonetheless. Wish there were more posts praising the excellence of destiny but sadly negative posts seem to get all the attention.
-
Judging the game's size through the Beta isn't really fair. Wait until the game actually comes out.
-
Why does everyone assume the other maps are the same size as Old Russia? They could be huge.
-
Old Russia wasnt fully unlocked
-
ya, i tested how far i could go and I ended up running into level 20 dudes that basically one shotted me. Thats how this type of games work, the maps will continue to unlock as you level up.
-
I agree. I tried going to the exact mountain that we speak of and there's no way. Even in the full release we are not going anywhere near that. Reminds me of skyrims 300 dungeons that are all unique and made totally different from each other yet every dungeon is the exact same. That said I don't care. I still have fun.

Edited by Krunchcoat: 8/13/2014 1:58:45 AMMy question is, are you able to go to old Chicago like they told us in the past.
http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/File:Old_Chicago.jpg
-
Yeah I was kinda disappointed the same way you are.
-
Key word "BETA"
-
(Insert ignorant No Man's Sky comment here) (Insert disappointment comment about a game in progress) *cancels preorder
-
It was the beta they aren't going to reveal everything.
-
Yup agreed. I remember them saying; "You can explore as far as you can see." Either we've been lied to or it's coming up in the full game.
-
Everybody..get your pitchforks ready.
-
I agree, this is what made me get into the game in the beginning. All of the people saying that this was just a Beta, are plain wrong. Yes, some parts are cut off, but that is nowhere near the scale of the game that I expected it to be. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it made me disappointed.
-
i am a bit upset. every turn is lies and unlikeable info lately. like if i knew before i gave bungie my money that will not get to raid because i do not know 5 other people with the exact same amount of free time as me, i am screwed and can not exp all that destiny has to offer. also in a video bungie said if you can see it you can explore it. alpha and beta prived that to be a HUGE lie. whats next in the stream of dissapointment??
-
The areas that were cut off I got into and they just looped around so not much back there
-
There were a lot of areas which were clearly cut off in one way or another. It was a Beta after all.
-
It's not truly open world, that's for sure. I was hoping for multiple areas the size of the Skyrim map.
-
Many mountains you could... run into invisible barriers.
-
True, It's not really open world. Just "big halo level".
