The noob I adopted.
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was working on my 3rd lvl 20 character (when I realized lvl 30 was for people with multiple cahracters) and around lvl 12 or so I grouped with this guy. We'll just call him"Tank."
I explained to him the awesomeness of bounties, and not to feel attached to any loot before lvl 20. I showed him the quick path to 20, and what to do once you get there. I explained the awesomeness of legendaries, and why light was the only armor stat worth mentioning (for now). He watched from the sidelines as I repeatedly grinded Vault of Glass with my other friends and PUGs (pick-up groups) trying to get those #%!@ VoG Warlock gloves - which I do not have to this day.
We clan hopped a bit, trying to find one that felt right. Some were awesome but raided too early, others quit playing and didn't raid at all (until the new DLC). But to look at Tank now, and the Guardian he has become... He is famous among friends for his ability to throw a raid group together in 5 minutes, and a GOOD raid group together in 10 =) and his Grimoire score has steadily outpaced mine over the last two weeks.
This one's for you, bro! We may be in different clans, and I may finish my 3rd Crota run before you every week, but the game just wouldn't be the same without party invites and good times with Tank!

I told him to do the story missions on the highest difficulty he could, check back at the tower between each story mission, complete bounties, max out weekly marks and I said he'd be there in no time. Boy was I right, after 75 hrs vs my 600 hrs we're in the same boat. What a waste of 600 hrs on my end. This is why I don't play much anymore.

Soon that sweet noob with the puppy eyes turns into the elitist, opportunistic douchebag we encountered since launch. Noob: YOU'RE NOT A 32 YET?! F*CKING CASUAL! I'M NOT CARRYING YOU! Me: I had to explain the game's mechanics and basic premise to you two weeks ago! I view xmas noobs and Day 1 players as the same. There's going to be decent players and douchebags. I've helped out and befriended some decent new players. However, it does get infuriating when you befriend and help out an xmas noob, only for him to reach 32 and watch his ego inflate. In hindsight their naivete and compliments are just a calculated means to help them and once they reach max level they no longer need you and feel they're elite.

8 RepliesI also have a noob that adopted me Lets call him Creep He's a 12 year old guy, who thinks I'm a girl and hits on me via voice chat I dont have a mic He helps me with bounties. "Helps" And complains to his 12 year old friends when I'm too fast for him.

3 RepliesI can relate! I'm not a "great" player by any means but I've invested more time into this game than I care to admit. I was patrolling the cosmodrome one time and some random lv24 player joined me. (pre DLC and I was a forever 29 1/2) I thought what the heck. It'll help the both of us get our patrol cosmodrome bounty quicker. Once we were done I asked him if he wanted to do the nightfall. He didn't have a mike but he was able to shake his head "no" or nod "yes" in a way that I have yet to figure out. He nodded "yes" so off to Septiks Prime we went. It was a little rough. Ok...it was really rough. As a lv24 he got splattered a LOT and it was just the two of us. Thank the heavens for special ammo synthesis, patience, and Pradyth's Revenge on the void burn. Ugh. We slowly creeped forward and eventually got in the somewhat "safe" room at Septiks Prime. I told him to stay in the corner and NOT DIE and revive me as needed as I knew I was going to die a LOT. He did so. After a crappy battle with the boss the big purple puke exploded and we had a completion. Kill count at the end was roughly 140 for me and 5 for him.... I won't claim to have solo'd it there. Not one bit. Had he not been there to revive my splattered corpse a dozen times at the end neither of us would have gotten the bounty. It was his first nightfall and for a week he was one of very few lv24s out there with a flaming head. He was pumped. Since then he's joined me at least 3 nights a week and has done at least a dozen nightfalls with me and the VoG, He still doesn't have a mic...can't talk to me but he can hear me and is one of the best darn wingmen I've ever played with.

There could be an "adopt a noob" section of the raid matchmaking.

I adopted a noob as well my girlfriend XD Gear is awesome RNG is not, I agree. If grimoire score gave us something cool...I would have 2700 by now...-sighs- at least a shader or something. You can join my clan, we are super sexy and amazing.

3 RepliesYeah some of the noobs I first took in the vault are now above me. Some people used to kick it on the teen players too. Those people can't find raid groups, and don't know why. Funny thing is most of the 13-19 year olds are the ones saving everyone's booty, and looty.
