Polygon's review... all for what?
After reading Polygon's review of [The Dark Below] expansion, I'm left with an empty feeling.
I love Destiny, but how much?
At first, I didn't really mind the Exotic resets since I rather enjoy completing bounties and seeing progress as I pass time in the game.
However, after reading this article, I remembered how much time I've already dedicated to Destiny.
Maxing out all my weapons...
Getting two characters to 30 and one more to 29...
Now dropped down to 28 and 29 with purchased gear, which I ALSO had to grind for...
My beloved [Fatebringer] now being a weak weapon VS a non-upgraded Vanguard weapon...
Then this part of the article really shined a light on what was to come:

If you do the hardest weekly heroic strike on three characters, you get 27 strange coins per week, and the cap on the amount of glimmer you can carry at once is 25,000. So you'll have to do 10 weeks of strikes on three characters, and farm glimmer for about 12 hours, just to erase all your progress on your collection of pre-expansion exotics.

WOW. Just, wow...
I don't understand why Bungie wants us constantly playing the game since they already got our money...?
It seems that relevant content and new things to do brought a flood of old players back, and then they left again.
I enjoy Destiny, but can we all agree that this is an abusive relationship?
Constantly needing us to log in, spend countless hours in it only to see our progress reset every 3 months or so...
Any thoughts?

6 RepliesWhen i hit level 25 i should have done nothing and wait till DLC came out instead. Who needs skill, luck and knowledge for raids when all you need to do is log in after DLC?! Imma wait till House of Wolves DLC so i can be level 33 for no reason rocking The-Devil-You-Don't-Know-That-Well-But-Friended-On-Facebook-Anyway-Because-He-Knows-Everyone-You-Know handcannon with 1 clip capacity and reload time that rivals a loading screen!

There is no content. That's my thought. They have to stretch it. Imagine if they had just released TDB and not reset anything. There would be nothing to do except get raid gear for the sake of getting raid gear.

1 ReplyLove it when people say welcome to mmo's because gear grinding is what it's about. At least other mmo's have massive story lines and zones plus more than one line of gear to top out in some give you top performance in pve or pvp or raiding here you just grind a small hallway of story repititively for one line of gear that really only has big benefits for the one raid you get it from and possibly in iron banner but that's somewhat controversial still with under geared players still being right there in competiveness

1 ReplyPeople have already pointed out that this guy's math is very suspect in terms of the xp required to progress through the upgrade trees. I'll say what I've (also) already pointed out: 1). anyone who thought that the weapons and gear they acquired through the game's first three months of life would remain the best was living in a fantasy world. 2). If you're "grinding" or "working" while playing Destiny, you're doing something wrong. It's a video game. 3). This article is just another bitter rant by someone who's preoccupied with being "better" than other players. That's really pathetic.

Bungie doesn't give a shit about the quality of the game anymore, only that they figure of the mechanics that keep people addicted to playing. That way, when the release D2 with a monthly fee, they'll know how to hook us, and keep us coming back likes coke-addicted rats. (And I say this as one of those rats, myself)

3 RepliesMy thoughts are this. I got 95% of the exotics before the DLC. Most went unused. I will upgrade the ones I like, and the rest can sit in my collection or become exotic shards. I'm sure WoW, Diablo, Borderlands, and any other MMO/loot based games would sound crazy if you only mention the grind and "hard work" involved. But that's not why people play these games! I play Destiny because it's fun. Fukk this author in his anti-Destiny arse. He's just as bad as the bandwagon haters who constantly trash a video game they dislike. Destiny is fun for a lot of people. It's possible to make Mario sound like an awful game that's a waste of time, but only a killjoy dickhead would write an article trying to dissuade others from playing.

110 Replies1. Because MMOs are not games you "beat" and then go play something else. They are games you form long term relationships with. So they have to give you a reason to keep playing 2. What exactly is it that you think you are *accomplishing* in this game OTHER than simply having FUN. The whole point of "progression" in these games is to give something to keep working TOWARDS. If you are looking to build something "permanent" you are playing the wrong game. Go play Minecraft. MMOs and persistent-world RPGs are like the old Zen saying, "Life is like getting into a ship about to set out to sea.....and sink." You can either given in to despair that you aren't going to "get anywhere". Or you can wise up and realize that there is no "destination"...and that the whole point is to simply enjoy the PROCESS and enjoy the JOURNEY. I play the game everyday. Not because I'm looking to "accomplish" anything. I play it because I ENJOY playing it...and the progression schemes simply give my efforts a FOCUS. That's all. Anything else, and you're off in the weeds.

The reset didn't sit well with me. I'm one of those players that, pre DLC, had two level 30s and a 29. I'm not sure what to say about this article. I'm discouraged for sure.

Definitely agree, 250 hours into the game pre-dlc with two 30s and a 29, and all of it immediately becoming useless and a friend who started two weeks before the dlc reached 31 before me. Absolutely ridiculous.

What i hope everyone comes to realize is that Bungie lied to us all. Destiny is maybe 20% of a full game. Bungie chopped destiny up and is reselling content that should have been out day 1 and reselling it as dlc. The Fail Below quest rewards ARE level 16 blues FOR A REASON !!! Because this dlc is cut content from about level 14 to level 17, ish. This is so dam obvious its unreal that bungie did not think that gamers are smart enough to have figured this out. Bungies huge lies about destiny is also obvious. Just go back 1 year or so and look at bungies own words and what they said Destiny " will be ". Since day 1 Destiny is a failuer and is mostly being played because there are not enough good game to keep us away from this hacked up Activision\bungie fuk up. Destiny could and should have been the Star Wars of Games but ooooo man did they screw that up. DLC, are you serious Bungie?!?! Give us the other 80% of Destiny you guys owe us ftom day 1 for free Now !!!

Does anyone really have every exotic, or even want to upgrade them all? Also, the assumption that it'll for sure happen again with HoW is a bit ridiculous, especially after all this backlash. Yes, it's annoying, but let's be realistic here.

Lol fatebringer is largely imo still a top tier hand cannon. I have yet to find a legendary hand cannon to replace it. Though If got an upgraded red hand...

2 RepliesIf we're totally honest with ourselves, playing any video game is a waste of time. I enjoy playing Destiny, so to me having new gear to upgrade provides an objective while I'm doing what I like to do - play Destiny. I'm a bit confused why players are upset with Bungie for giving them reasons to continue playing. As for the exotic item upgrades, the replacements start at the same attack/light level as the items you turn in. Ok, so you lose the perks but in terms of attack/light, they've just raised the potential not taken anything away.

Haven't upgraded a damn thing or plan to. Why would I waste my time playing this game only to so the same exact thing again in three months?Based on the precedent they just set. We would all be better off playing when house of wolves drops getting. Exotics and then leveling them up so we won't be doing the same thing three times. I don't mind grinding to get gear. But I have something, put in time to level it up an then in order to stay relevant you want me to spend another 4 hours doing that exact thing again? And you want me to pay for it? In real and your fake money? I'm not doin it...
