What's Bungie doing about lag-switchers?

So I spent a pretty fair amount of time in Iron Banner this past week. I ran for 2-3 hours a day, starting Tuesday night, in order to purchase another copy of Goldspiral for one of my characters. I noticed, that in more than a few matches, my fireteam and I would encounter Guardians who would be playing normally at the start of a match, but would become incredibly laggy if the match turned in our favor. Once the lag started, some of these teams became functionally invincible, absorbing full clips of heavy before dropping. And they'd go down about ten seconds after you'd typically see someone drop. Sometimes, we'd get killed and the player highlighted as responsible for our death was across the map, face-first in a wall, just endlessly running to victory. Are there any guards in place to prevent us from being matchmade with lag-switchers, or just laggy folks in general? My internet's not amazing, but I get 15-20 MB/sec down and 2-4 up on average. I don't want to deal with people who aren't where you think they are, not because they outwitted me, but because their connection sucks or they're lag-switching for an advantage. I've actually encountered a few teams that use a laggy teammate as bait, and then run out to clean up whoever was dumb enough to shoot at the lagger in self-defense. That's garbage. I really like PvP, which is amazing because I don't honestly like competitive FPS gaming, but teams willfully lagging and cheating for wins takes the fun out of the game very quickly. Anyone else experienced this frustrating approach to the Crucible? The merits of playing straight-up aside, I'm sure Bungie wants players to play their game the way they intended, not cheat their way to crucible wins for gear that will only help them for a brief time in PvE. I'd rather get better than cheat to win.

With regret that I see are not the only member of this clan, I played it from beta destiny, then I saw the path of this game from the start, poss safely say that today there is a system (similar to the script of fifa ) in PvP, which has current game seeks to balance any kind of match, bringing the games almost always heads-up, I can say that just before the launch of the king of the corrupt connection in PvP was great enough to make me believe that the lag was a bad memory, so I fell into the trap of purchasing the DLC, and then find myself in total disatr more in pvp, drops in frame rate, lag up to two seconds (even more), lag switchers, torrent lag, disconnections xbox live, match making against: Indonesia, United States United Kingdom Canada Russia Germany Greece Australia etc etc .. that invariably always have an advantage of one second lag compensation of minimum this is my ping test http://www.pingtest.net/result/133459453.png now the skill in the games is relying less and less ....

    • Just happened to me. Player would lag out of sight and/or disappear from my radar. Or not be on my radar at all and all of a sudden they kill me point blank with a shotgun, it's ridiculous

    • Yep, last game I just had this crucible, the 3 players were lag switching ever encounter any of my team members had. But they don't die sometimes. They use it right before they see you or during the fire fight

    • I don't think those are lag-switchers, but simply players with bad connections/ Destiny servers/ wrong matchmaking.

    • You can tell who is lag switching because it usually occurs when they are about to be killed or kill you and it is the same toon/toons over and over. Bungie will not do anything because they all ready have our money suckas. Maybe time to move on to Battleborn?

    • I find wired connections better than wireless, but when I have bad connection occasionally, It basically is the same for someone who is lagging as it is against someone lagging (obviously unless lag switching). Just remember that it can be just as bad for the person with bad connection as it is to fight against them. However, it is usually obvious if someone is cheating or has a legit bad connection. While at the moment not enough is being done, the banhammers have made a few baby swings so far. I'm regular crucible I rarely encounter these people, but in the current iron banner, it's ridiculous. All I'm saying is, don't report everyone you see with a bad connection. However, even if you do report a legit player, bungie knows if they are hackers or not, due to the way the game is affected by the hack. But if you feel someone is hacking, report it. Multiple times if you really feel like it.

    • Let me say this! Bungie is doing NOTHING to stop this cheating. I witness lag switchers in 90% of the crucible matches I play and 99% of trials games involve lag switchers. This game is dying and I could care less because Bungie needs to focus on the cheaters instead of releasing new content when the game isn't ready for it. Taken King for example, coming out in a couple months less than 6 months after House of Wolves. Note: SLOW DOWN BUNGIE! FOCUS ON THE -blam!-ING CHEATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People that use lag switches and laggers to cheat in PvP and iron banner cheat because they don't know how to play and they wanna make themselves feel better about how good they are at PvP by cheating and I looked up what bungie was doing and I found a video on how to make a lag switch someone needs to take that video down immediately. My dad was playing iron banner and I don't know if others have had this problem but the match had started and there where already 3 lag switchers and the match started without my dad's team. The other team, when my dad loaded in already had a bunch of points and they used lag switchers to make the game load slower in order to try and get ahead but my dad's team wasn't far behind in points.

    • I've only started today and the two games I played were fugged. Idk if it was lag switching but the constant changing of everyone from green bar to red seemed odd. Also getting lagged out right at the last second is fishy. I usually don't play much PvP but I do grind the ibz and I'm really hoping this isn't what it's going to be like every game.

      • Yes it's getting worse! Why play if you don't have the switch?? The game wasn't this bad before trials, only in iron banner did you see it. Now its in all Crucible games! Trials!?! FORGET THAT!! I see the same player jump across the screen TWICE as they die and kill all on my team! I'M SURE THAT IS THE WAY THE GAME IS TO BE PLAYED... They all have good connections when the game starts but very poor until the match is over and they win. Some clown you should have killed twice takes no damage!?! Then turn your back and they kill you!! This game is starting to suck and blow! It's not fun to loose like that. If it is true and you can't use a switch then how are they doing it? Should I just get crappy internet? I also hear once a team mate has left trials they can not return. This is not true because the other team did that more than once in the same match! I play Destiny for fun! Not to be frustrated to the point of wanting to trash my Xbox!

While I don't know if it was lag switching since apparently it's not possible to do it in Destiny, it did feel very much like the old Halo days. Things I encountered during IB that I don't usually encounter with a high speed, quality connection (also of note I've NEVER had a zoo error since release day): 1. Team losing, suddenly all red Ping bars. Assured victory. 2. People racing through with supers continuously charged, Golden Guns running from start to finish nonstop. 3. Heavy Ammo crates not opening for team, but for enemy team just fine. 4. Lag Baiting, the enemy team obviously knew what they were doing and the lagger was helping them willfully. 5. Some Hunters were going into Bladedance, lagging and then able to walk around in perpetual Bladedancer mode. 6. Infinite Ammo glitch supposedly gone, several matches where the whole team started with loaded launchers and decimated. 7. Went from a 8,000 to 3,000 lead. Suddenly character was running into walls, couldn't move, ammo wasn't releasing from weapon, grenade throw animation would happen, grenades would not. Enemy team moved about SWAT style humping air in front of us and won effortlessly. There is quite a bit of merit to this, and if it has been found that there is a way to cheat the connection in Destiny it must be fixed immediately. EDIT: Before people say this is an excuse I publicly own up to hating and sucking at PVP. But in all the times I've been massacred at Crucible none of these above events have happened, let alone, happened frequently.

          • I live in one of two cities in the country that have fiber optic gig internet. My up and download speeds are consistently in the 700mb range and I still encountered this all throughout this current iron banner... I was frequently red barred throughout entire match experienced ungodly lag where everything this guy explains happen to me constantly. I know its not my connection so what is it?

          • I find the lag in PvP almost unbearable at times. it's only a game but I get angry that I cannot play the game to its full extent. I've lost count of the times ive shot clips into players who take no damage or at best die several seconds later after taking out a few people in the process. Either that or you get one lagged up player who runs around as a distraction and usually has a low score but whilst dealing with them my team gets picked off by the players non laggy team mates. I haven't seen lag issues this bad since Battlefield 4s initial release. they don't occur all the time but I'm finding it's more often now than not. my connection is fine so I don't need any responses telling me to check that. Bungie ought to just stop poor connections from being able to play in PvP because their lag turns it into a shit experience all round. and when you combine lag with two of the cheesiest weapons?? it's even worse. (fusion noob and shotgun+blink, they are easily countered when lag isn't involved...still cheap as hell and require was skill than say a scout rifle...but counter able)

            • It's worse now: before, I'd lag out but I'd at least have a small chance of killing people. Now, I just lose connection to the game entirely, but get stuck on a black screen that won't boot me out of the match, and leave me hanging, listening to the sound of my team (which had a huge lead) lose all control points and the heavy ammo spawn, while I can't do anything. And then when I finally rejoin the match, I'm reset back to 0.0 k/d as if I'd never been playing, even if I had been topping the scoreboard for that match prior to disconnect. And it happens _every time_ I'm about to get the heavy ammo spawn, or when I power up my super, or both: it's just too convenient (for them) to be coincidence, because it sure as hell doesn't happen when I'm losing.
