Legendary Engram Rarity

Hey all, I don't really know if this is the first post about this or not but I've been running friend surveys on the people I play Destiny with and they seem to be having the same problem. Legendary Engrams are scare. Over fall break (cause I'm in college and I finally got some time away) I managed to play hours upon hours. Before the patch, banning the farm caves (glad for this) I found legendary engrams every now and again. Now, I've found one legendary Engram for gloves over a week of gameplay about 6 hrs a day. I didn't even get the Engram from a drop or strike or crucible. The Cryptarch magically handed me one from reach another level in his services. If people are having the same problem please bring this to Bungie's attention. This drop rate of loot needs to be fixed. As much as I love spending countless hours on 24 strikes and very repetitiveness, I would like to be rewarded for it. Thanks for listening, GT: Amoxidy

  • I have been playing Destiny for 15 hours a week or so since patch. The only legendary engram i have seen since the legendary engram patch is when it dropped for someone in a strike 2 weeks ago. Bungie pls

  • While I feel your pain, there are many ways to obtain legendary equipment, so i'm not sure I could agree with an increase in the drop rate. I understand you may not have as much time as some to play (I have this issue myself from time to time due to work), so I would say your best bet would be to run the high level Strike Playlists. Doing this, you have a chance to obtain a legendary item as a mission reward, you obtain Vanguard Marks which can be used to purchase legendary items, you raise your Vanguard rank which again gives you the chance to receive a legendary item, and with all the blue engrams you obtain you can easily level your Cryptarch rank which may also reward you with legendary items. Personally I have only ever received 2 legendary items through a legendary engram drop, and i've actually received around 6 or so legendary items from a rare engram drop. All that being said, I can agree the most exciting way to receive a legendary item is through a legendary engram drop. But trust me, you will hit a point where you are swimming in purple, by which time the engram drop rate won't matter anymore.

    • I also want to add that I want the drop rates of higher leveled enemies to be fixed. I seem to be having to explain that concept a lot so I want to just add it in. I want the linear drop rates to go up. I'm at level 28 that can do basically every event and mission on Destiny now. Being able to drill those higher level missions should yield a better drop rate of legendary engrams than of lower levels. I don't want the general drop rate to go up. That's not how RPGs work. If I put in the time to be a high level I want to be able to yield higher level rewards. Say I want to do the raid again in the same week. Knowing I won't get the original raid gear or items from the chests, the NPCs I am warring against should still have a better drop rate than that of the Earth patrol vandal.

      • Its a tough grind if RNG isn't on your side. I gave it some thought when I was grinding for legendary, now I just need raid stuff, this was my idea Every hour played and a legendary doesn't drop for you, your chance at a legendary drop increases 1%. Once a legendary does drop, your counter is reset. I didn't think it was game breaking and rewarded grind.

        • I don't seem to have issues I usually get 2 engrams in a day of playing, albeit typically I get coins or mats instead of actual legendary items. I usually play around 4-6hrs a day.

          • the rate for legendaries is actually more or less the same. think about the rate of actually getting a legendary as an equation. lets say previously the equation was this: A * B = L with A being the rate of getting a legendary engram and B the chance of actually dropping a legendary(L). before patch lets say: A = . 8 and B = .2 so .8 * .2 = .16 so you have an 80% chance of getting a legendary engram but only 20% chance of that being a legendary so the ACTUAL chance of getting a legendary is 16% now at post patch lets say A=.16 and B = 1 so you only have a 16% chance of getting a legendary engram which is very very low compared to before the patch but when you do get one you have a 100% chance of getting a legendary. In the ACTUAL chance of getting a legendary is still 16%. TLDR: bungie didn't change shit

              • I think you are having the same probability of getting a legendary engram than you had before the change to their decryption. People just do not get upset by getting an uncommon or rare item from their legendary engrams anymore.

              • Well now that the Legendary engrams have a 100% to be legendary equipment or items (shards, energy), the drop rate on Legendary engrams had to be dropped as well. If they kept the same drop rate, you'd get like 10-15 legendaries a day, making them less meaningful.

                  • I had only got 2-3 the whole time iv been playing (few weeks). But when xur was here this very last weekend I got 2 legendary engrams from tiger strikes and one a bit later. I managed to get my whole play times worth of engrams in a few hours lol.
