Okay I'm never the "conspiracy theorist" guy but c'mon, this is a load of horse shit.
I'm talking about the recent shootings in Canada. My condolences to any Canadians here, but that's besides the point I'm trying to make. When I heard about this, I did a quick google search and almost puked on my laptop.
Just about Every. Single. Headline. "Islamic" or "Muslim" included. (Talking about the suspect in question of course.) This is blatant discrimination agains Muslims. Look up the news reports filled out for Sandy Hook, Aurora theatre shooting, Virginia Tech Shooting. The sad thing is I can keep naming them, but anyways, none of these news reports mention the shooter following Christianity or Judaism. Most, if not all don't even mention religion.
So once again, I am not a conspiracy theorist, I mostly spend my time thinking about science, so politics are not a big thing of mine, but isn't it a coincidence that the US government is in a situation where they need public support against an Islamic group, and then all these reports show up blasting Islam for literally no reason. His religion had no doing in his actions as far as we know now, yet the news papers include it. Absolute trash, that's what that is. Blatant fear mongering, prejudice trash.
Note: I am not implying this event happened because the US needs public support, I am saying that this event occurs at a time when they need this public support, and newspapers run headlines with the assailants religion for no currently apparent reason. I would also like to add that I am an Atheist and if you want to start a religious debate on this thread, you might as well light your house on fire.

Islam should be slandered. It's a backwards, misogynistic, 6th century ideology. They throw acid on their daughters. They throw rocks at gays until they are dead. They attempt to murder entire civilizations that don't subscribe to their faith. They barter women as property. They torture and behead civilians. They assassinate young girls who try to go to school. They mutilate their women. These are just some of the things that are legally permissible and even majority supported in strictly Islamic nations. When given power Islam is a completely perverse and violent ideology. Granted, many religions in their hayday were guilty of similar practices, but at least the others have died off or mostly moved on as centuries have passed.

The reason they mention Islam is because the violence is committed in the name of Islam. Other criminals are just doing criminal acts, but not for their religion. Usually anyway. Sure enough the shooter was a Muslim who recently converted. Go figure.

Good.

I lost faith in the media in general quite a while ago.

Edited by angry0lbgrampa: 10/23/2014 1:18:24 AMThey are islamists. In fact it has been proven that at least one had been attamepting to join ISIS.
-
You're right. Let's pretend there isn't a growing Islamic group of murderers that this shooting is related to.
-
Yea Canadians *fist bump*
-
they have always done this sort of thing in the major news outlets...
-
Did anyone else here get Brainwashed by the media believing that all Muslims or people from the Middle East were terrorists?
-
Because the ones that aren't Muslim are usually Atheist
-
We should always list their religion, that would be fun.
-
Well, there could be a reason, which is the initial assumption made that the religion was a cause of the event (given the associative link between Islam and terrorism in the Western world, I would figure that the average person who heard the story would make that connection, whether it was wrong or not), in conjunction with the fact that news outlets will tend towards framing stories in a way that can garner the most readers, and leaning towards framing the story around initial assumptions in order to not fall behind. You don't need a conspiracy or even some sort of major, nationalistic agenda to explain what you've seen. Of course, it is still a product of journalistic practices that are quite poor and don't help the public to properly understand what is going on.
-
The media is filled of scumbags promoting a nationalistic agenda. Tell me something new.

Edited by Doug Ford, The Second: 10/23/2014 12:22:22 AMI'm from Ottawa. While I still do admittedly suspect ISIS being related to all this (since lots of incidents of people converting have been happening in Canada), I personally haven't seen a lot of islamic hate here. I've just recently done a quick search up, and none of the headlines involved any related word. They're all more centralized on the circumstances of the incident itself. It's still non-surprising that you had found over-sensationalized takes on the incident though.

Sensationalism = Sellsationalism They aren't here to bring you unbiased, factual news. They're here to sell stories, get ratings, and push agendas.
