The reason they mention Islam is because the violence is committed in the name of Islam. Other criminals are just doing criminal acts, but not for their religion. Usually anyway.
Sure enough the shooter was a Muslim who recently converted. Go figure.

And also that is an ignorant assumption, no offense intended by saying that. Some of the biggest atrocities to ever occur have been in the names of other religions, namely (and I'm not trying to pick on Christians, these examples are just what comes to mind atm) the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition.

Ugh ya Christians have done many terrible things as well. But the reason Islam was mentioned was because 3 days before the shooting, another Canadian soldier was killed by a Muslim.

Yes I know, but the fact that they follow the same religion doesn't mean anything until its said that its Islam. Then holy shit automatically a terrorist. I'm sure if they even had the statistic, you'd be able to find murders committed today, this week, last week, this month, this year, and this decade, by people of every religion. My point is they are using a bad stereotype for its popularity, and pushing it to still exist. Journalism is journalism i know, it just makes me mad.
