Discuss all things Destiny.

And so my days of Destiny are becoming shorter.

I already explained how disappointing the game is, so I'm not going to reiterate myself. But now, I am not playing Destiny because I am having fun, I play it because I truly hope bungie will make it better. But so far, I don't know what is happening with the company I loved. They seem to have lost their creative direction. Very poor decisions were made and there was a lack of clear communication during the players and the company. It's hard to see such a jarring shift between halo's epicness and Destiny's mediocrity. I have not beaten the raid yet, I almost did. But even if I did, what's the point? To get better armor? For what, crucible, where kills depend on lag rather than equipment and skill? And from what I keep hearing, the story was originally going to be much much different....much cooler. But that was cut because it was too good. What happened to you guys? I mean...you have to be asking yourselves "what the -blam!- have we done with this game...." right? Or do you only care about squeezing as many pennies out of us as you can at the cost of producing quality games? I can't do it anymore. I can't handle the deception, the misleading promises, the nerfed content...Destiny feels like a free-to-play game. It's incomplete....until we purchased the dlc. If you cared about giving the players what they deserve, you would make ALL of that DLC free. No this is not satire, it is not a troll. We deserve the rest of the game. If you truly love your community, you would twist activision's arms until they broke and let you give us our game. You would also beg Marty and Joe Staten to return and fire the asshole who came up with the grimoire system. Hire more writers, perhaps some of us in the community could take over. I'm being serious, There are those of us who are brimming with ideas for story direction. I don't know what sort of drama is happening at Bungie studios, but get your shit together. I will continue to be a loyal bungie fan.....But Destiny is losing me. I am at the point where I often ask myself "why am I playing this?!?" The next step is to set it aside and wait for the day you finally get your shit together. EDIT: To clarify, I am not going to be leaving the forums. I love this community. So for those of you who dislike my presence, tough.

I never seen you write this I'm not sure how I missed it but good on you for writing up how lot of people feel. Amateurish, is how I would describe Bungies decisions with this game. They are stalling what little content they have and it's not helping How can a game studio that created a series as organised as Halo, become one of the most directionless messes of 2014? So many things wrong with the game. Feels like a different company under the Bungie banner I hope they can add more but not at the expense of the consumer. They still owe us the game they sold us on. I know they will charge people out the arse for content to be honest because they care little about what a few hundred people think

        • With as much as Bungie is denying the accusations and questions by us the community, Destiny will fail. We're only getting 3 story missions, 2 strikes, and 1 raid from the December DLC, and 3 story missions, 1 strike, and 1 raid from the 2nd DLC. Unless there's a lot of free story missions, added lore and cut scenes, or an entire new mode (going to use Halo 4's spartan ops as an example) that gives us a new and continued story mission AND cut scene weekly, then Destiny will never last. Destiny's DLC past the House of Wolfs will only sell if the first 2; which most people already bought before they knew what they were buying, are just amazing. I doubt this will be the case though, and after people who unfortunately already paid for the DLC expansion pass see how it's nothing new just the same lazy point defense missions in the SAME exact areas they'll never buy the 3rd DLC. The only thing Bungie can do that can save this game is tell us the truth. There is literally one 2 plausible scenarios. 1) Bungie comes out and reveals that yes the story was something completely different and had to be cut/changed/rewritten because of problems. (either Activision, the terminations and firings, both, or something else... Doesn't really need to be in detail.) Followed by an apology as to the sorry state Destiny was released in and it's being worked on. 2) Bungie comes out and says "No, we honestly thought Destiny was an amazing game at launch and didn't think it was as terrible as it was". Followed by either "We're sorry and trying to fix the mistakes we've made" or "We're sorry, but we're abandoning the project."

          • the problem is they don't have to squeeze anymore they already got the money this whole forum.and everything is pointless they could take the servers offline right now and they got enough money for everyone in the company that they never had to work again..they don't -blam!-ing care and they got more money and better lawyers than us so its completely pointless to rant on this forum which is just a blackhole for everything you or everyone else writes...the gaminh media completely ignore or covers this shit up ..there was a #gamergate because of some faked reviews etc abd wth is this then ? A 500million dollar beta with all day disconnects since release day i mean wtf gaming is -blam!-ed

            • I wanted to like the game... there is just nothing to do apart from shooting guys in the face... Why are we even shooting these guys in the face again? Because some random people told us to? DLC wont save this game I'm afraid, god, I hope I'm wrong, but something tells me that this is as good as it gets.

              • You ask what the point is... here, I'll tell you. It's to have fun. You don't need an incentive. Bungie have given you more than enough content to have fun with. You don't need to feel compelled to better your character - that just accelerates the fun. Find some friends, play and socialise and have fun. People have had fun with a lot less and I am, for one, am having a load of fun with my friends playing this game. There have been plenty of people like you over the years here at Bungie.net, longface, the community would recupperate rather quickly if you were to leave.

why do people keep saying how amazing halo was? halo was like the average looking girl you settled for when you couldn't nail the perfect woman, great body; but had that kind of chubby face that makes you say to yourself "please don't look at me when we have sex"

Im not too sure about the rest of the community, but the reason i bought this game is because no other games have arrived this year. Many games have been delayed to the coming year, and it leaves many gamers hungry for new game, Destiny was one of them and i was quite disappointed from the lack of content. This game's budget was over $500 million, and not to bash on Bungie, but GTA 5 had more content, longer story, and bigger worlds-- and the thing that bothers me is it took bungie like 8 (maybe 10) years to develop this while GTA 5 took 5, i believe. In addition GTA 5 budget was nearly half the amount it took destiny, 265 million. My opinions.

                  • I think there is some substance to this. At some level they have given the impression that the crucible is the crux of the content and advancement. I won't argue that there isn't a lot to do but it's pretty small given the context of the game; it isn't a pure shooting pvp and the non~pvp elements aren't very much. I think even players who enjoy the game can at least agree that the overall storyline mix was pretty small. I think my own problem is that the way they designed the game is immensely large BUT how it's being offered is as much piecemeal and DLC's as possible. It'd be one thing if this game was a bit more expansive but I think what hurts Destiny versus other games is the "wash~rinse~repeat" and that alone can be tiring over a month. If both DLC's fail to really deliver then I think that 10 year plan will go down the drain and that's where I think Bungie & Activision really needs to look at the game. Other bigger titles with huge expectations have hit snags and have ignored player feedback and took big financial hits. SWtOR was probably the most notable title with a bigger fanbase and media blitz than even Destiny and now that's what F2P? Sometimes sticking to a plan is good when it's working but changing the plan is even better if things aren't going to expectation.

S'up Longface, big fan, we've talked before, but I'm going to hit you with a hard truth that I think many people with similar complaints should hear. This isn't the game for you. This game wasn't designed for you, this game isn't, and will probably never make you happy. .... .... Dust settled? K. This is, straightfoward, an MMO. It always has been. Granted it is a new type of MMO, but it is one none the less. Now yes, it is unfair Bungie repeatedly said "this isn't an mmo" but, anyone who played the alpha, beta, or followed development at all, knew, this was an mmo. Which means : - people who play in groups will have tons of fun, for a very long time, despite the lack of content. Because the raids/multiplayer/pve to pvp systems were set up brilliantly. - People who love grinding (most mmo players) will love this game for a very long time, because repetitive content doesn't bother them - A majority of the people still playing this game don't feel like you do. They were not expecting a start/middle/end story, they weren't expecting a plethora of content on launch. So I'm sorry, but this game probably just isn't for you. Now you are still playing it, thats just a sign of how great the mechanics and fundementals of this game are. But you're also a minor celebrity on the forums...and that's probably contributing to why you're still here. Maybe you are the type of player who actually likes MMOs and jsut wasn't expecting this to be one, and will come around to it. But based on your posts...i don't think so. I also see you haven't completed the Raid, which is far and away the best part of this game. Now i have much love for you, and your posts, but if you are HONESTLY asking yourself, "why do i play this game?" then you should be equally honest when you answer...."because this game wasn't made for me..." And you cannot blame Bungie for that. They set out to make a game that they would expand over 10 years (coughcough MMO coughcough) and they joined up with a company that has Massive experience doing this (activision owns blizzard). Just like I do not blame EA for making Madden games and me not enjoying them, and I wouldn't expect a Madden player to enjoy World of Warcraft (not saying they can't just saying they're two massively different styles of games).

                    • Hmmmm... Release a game with plans of a ten year shelf life. Give the players the entire story right off the bat. (The game is projected to be ten years long through multiple releases) Give players access to every single planet, strike and raid the first day, or couple months, of release. (The game is planned out through ten years of development) Your argument, sir, is invalid. If you are getting bored then put the game down, your opinion is your own after all, but they cannot release a ten year game in 4 weeks and expect people to come back for more. Almost, almost, every great series of books I have ever had the pleasure of reading started off with a gigantic "wtf...how in the....who is that....what the hell...". It was not until later books in the series came out that the story finally flushed out, characters and situations developed and things started clicking. People need to start looking at this game from the miniseries concept, things will begin to connect after years, not days. I understood certain parts of Mass Effect the first few times I played it, and after playing the entire series, then re-playing it all after a year or so is when the beauty finally hit home. There is no point for a majority of players to sit here and grind spinmetal, replay the same strikes whatever else you are doing for 4-9 hours a day. These activities exist for people coming in to the game, the people who just bought it. This is a high concept, billion dollar investment that has just begun, it is not going to be for everybody. Maybe they want you to put the game down and go outside, who knows. I don't go into a book store, grab a book that says either "part 1 of 13" or "first in the series!" then write pissed off letters to the author saying I have been ripped off because the other 12 books wont be included with the 4.95 cover price. You are reserved to your opinion, everyone has that right. When you lay it down on the table in a public forum, get ready for some rebuttal. Bungie has not ripped anybody off, they have not cheated anyone. If YOU are finding yourself bored playing through the SAME shit over and over again put the controller down and walk away, as simple as that. Wait for the next part in the series to come out and take part in the opportunity to get immersed yet again. The less people on the map going through my farm runs the better. The playerbase seems to be improving a bit after the unsatisfied people have moved on, the no matchmaking is brilliant, pugs in that raid, especially on hard, would remove any desire for future raiding plans. The game is fantastic, from the cracked and bubbling streets of Venus, the way a Vex seems to breakdance when you engage it (I swear sometimes the bastards point at you then pop and lock about 40 feet away), that sense of awe the first time you get a scenery change in the Raid. This game was more than I was hoping for, and maybe that is just due to the fact that I didn't follow it around for 38 years before it hit the shelves. All in all I couldn't have been happier with the game the day, and first couple of weeks it came out. The loot changes to the Cryptarch were completely uncalled for. The people complaining about the lack of materials and weapons had no sense to do so the first couple of weeks of a public release. I farmed patrols, a lot, still do, in the first few weeks. It is a personal choice of mine not to engage in PvP and all of my gear comes from the PvE side of things. The loot has chagned for the worse because Bungie decided to give in to impatient folks that couldn't wait it out, that is my only complaint so far. 9/10, Fantastic game, will continue to play it for as long as it runs.

*fistbump* Yeah, it's a shame, right? Mine are shortening too. In fact, after I close this tab, I think I'm done with checking the site for hope every day. I'm trying for a 'No Outrage October' at the moment, so taking a philosophical look at it... I hit Destiny pretty hard the first couple weeks. Got a lot of fun playtime out of it. Then a lot of frustrating grind. Then I realized that I didn't actually have to grind and could just do the raid with my mates and that's really all that's of interest anymore... And sure, I was visiting the forum and website multiple times a day, desperately looking for some sign that the fixes were coming, that the problems were going to be solved, that maybe the story might get un--blam!-ed into something compelling... well. Now it's time to hang that up too, and just give it til the DLC drops or something. Maybe they'll run another event or two in-between, giving us re-skinned missions for some new faction or old faction or whatever recycled mission helps the willing think there's something new to do. Who knows. Who cares? There'll be Shadow of Mordor, Alien: Isolation, Sleeping Dogs and GTA 5 remasters, Borderlands, Evil Within, Lords of the Fallen, Dark Souls DLC, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Warlords of Draenor, the new Revan expansion for SWTOR, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Far Cry 4, Witcher 3, The Division, Dying Light, Evolve, Bloodborne, Mass Effect 4, Mirror's Edge 2, Final Fantasy 15... Man, it is about to RAIN gaming greatness every month this next year, and you'll forget Destiny was ever a thing. In some ways, that's sad... it had the potential to be a place you'd wanna damn near live, something living and evolving and immersive... But it didn't meet that potential. It's kind of like any relationship that fails. Best thing to do is move on. Props to the Guardians who stick around and try to make this shambles of a relationship work, but you'll probably be happier if you go on a break and give the relationship some space. Some distance away to see if you're not just caught up in what you were hoping for, or if you actually want to go back to what's actually here, now that all the flaws are known.
