Will we actually be able to fly our ships in Destiny ?
So after watching destiny's E3 trailer which was awesome and i know it was just a tech-demo of sort im still left wondering if we can actually fly and use our ships in destiny. I really hope we can.... our ships are pretty evident in the game as our way of traveling and exploring through the galaxy, i hope they dont end up being just as a quick cut scene where our ships drop us off and it just flies off all cool like, that's just a big tease. if we can customize it and make it seem like our ship i hope it becomes a part of the game play as well. i think it would just make for a better game.

No, you can't fly the ship, it's just for the cutscenes and showoff.

2 RepliesWould be Really disappointed if they did not implement it in the game, the Tools are all their to do it & they proved it can work on Reach. They are missing a huge opportunity in mixing up gameplay to sustain the life of Destiny if they leave it out imo. Afaik they said you can Customize your ship? If that is the case what would be so appealing of that if you cannot actually manually fly it? Just aesthetically cool? If not at launch hopefully they add it in a later expansion as they say Destiny is an ever evolving world and I can see how maybe they are holding it back until the story develops in our favor as humans take back lost territory throughout the frontier.

I'm kinda hoping for being able to fly them around the different planets, but I think the whole space flight would be a waste of development time imho.

eh, flying might be apart of certain areas, like the "derelict ships" that we're mentioned. or perhaps it could be in a pvp type playlist that would involve "space battles". but other than that, I can't see any logical way to implement it.

What I believe what the ships are going to do is that we can fly them around the planet so we can get to a certain point where we want to be hover over some kind of loading zone and then drop out of it letting it fly away to safety with auto pilot. Maybe while flying around we actually get to fight kind of like in the law of the jungle trailer where you see the team on little bike type thing and hunt down a team of spider pirates, which in my opinion would be so cool.

3 RepliesI think one of the reasons Bungie was experimenting with space combat in Halo: Reach was for Destiny. Either that or ship customisation will be as useless as in Ratchet & Clank 3.

7 RepliesEven if the space ship combat in Reach wasn't for Destiny sake it is still good practice and I am sure if it isn't available at first it will be later, I rather them take their time on it and get it right. Plus ship flight will probably only be available if it is available at all in space and maybe high altitudes but to travel anywhere like in the gameplay that close to the land seems like just a fast travel animation to a friend which is cooler than just teleporting.But we can all sit safely knowing if it ddoesn't come now it will later

3 RepliesIt was either Bungie or an interviewing company that, at one, point talked about ship customization and personalization in Destiny and from what ship usage we've seen in the gameplay, the point of personalization would seem useless, so there must be a deeper gameplay involved with our ships.

5 RepliesOne way it could work is space stations before each planet, you can fly to the edges of the solar system but can't fly into planets only space stations. This would allow for some very dynamic space combat (huge public matches) also flying through asteroid belts and debris from years of fighting. Hell you could even include the PvP element into space combat (space pirates) fly around attack ships with your fire teams loot enemy ships. When it comes to space the possibilities are endless and I think bungie and activision would be fools not to make full use of this

I'm sure you can fly it atleast what I'm really scared about Is not being able to land it any where quickly teleporting isnt that exciting but oh we'll they said it acts as your storage and you can customize it

I really, really want to believe so, but some Bungie comments are are scaring me. I would be fairly disappointed if we couldn't fly our craft. Especially after they introduced some interest flying in Reach.

Personally I can live without it. It would be a bonus if it was included but I surely wont loose sleep over it not being in the game.

I'm hoping it will be more like the space ships in star wars the old republic where the player can craft, store items, and be able to explore the ship while also using the ship to travel around.

1 ReplyUnfortunately, I don't think we will be able to, according to the thread above. I think that the only reason that the ships are able to be customized is the fact that they serve as our "home", in regards to storing loot and other items. I'm still holding on to hope that this info is wrong though.

I think there's still a good chance we may see it. I think I heard them say that this was a part of the campaign. ( this is just an opinion ). If this was a part of campaign I think it would make sense to limit the use of your space craft. Or maybe it's something you can take control of once your in space. I don't know. Just a thought
