10 RepliesUnpopular opinion: Reach is overrated. Yes, it has cool customizable armor. And quite a lot of it. So does 4. 4 also has cool coloring and whatnot. The only armor ability from Reach I miss is Drop Shield (because Armor Lock is dumb), but I hated sacrificing Sprint for it. 4 has a sprint button plus an equally large diversity of armor abilities. From camouflage to Promethean Vision to Autosentry, a lot of the abilities are actually really cool. Yes, even Regen Field (if used correctly). The campaign of Reach is cool, but it’s not exactly a hero’s story like CE through 3. I mean, we all remember the Lone Wolf mission, right? However, ODST’s campaign is significantly more in-depth than Reach, especially when you start paying attention to the time stamps and comparing it to other real-time events in the same campaign. The Rookie only wakes up [i]hours[/i] after most of the rest of the squad has linked up, but that’s the first mission of the campaign. While I never played Reach’s online multiplayer, I’ve never been a fan of online FPS’s anyway. I talked about this in another post, but I’ll expand on it here: FPS’s with online multiplayer almost always descend into a salt-fest. It’s unfortunate, but it’s how people will always be. So I’m not a fan of online multiplayer in the first place. Overall, I would say Reach is good. I’m not gonna go out and say it’s the worst Halo or anything - that title belongs to 5. But is it the best? I... don’t think so. I think the campaign of Reach is outshone by ODST’s campaign and the multiplayer of Reach is similar to 4.

Halo CE. Definitely have the most fond memories of online between 2006-2011 with Custom Edition online. 2-3 had super fun campaigns but I didn’t have xbox live in any consequential capacity until 2010 so I kind of missed their glory days for MP. I enjoyed Reach but it didn’t have as memorable gameplay, even with custom games being as fun as they were (DayZ/Assassination tower notwithstanding).

Best soundtrack- ODST or Reach Best multiplayer- 3 or (controversial I know,) 4. Best artstyle- Reach Best customization- Reach no contest Best AI interaction-3 Best supporting cast-ODST or reach, 3 close second. In my personal opinion, ODST is close to perfection, with Halo 3’s God tier multiplayer and maps and an amazingly subtle and understated campaign. The way you move through the city of new Mombasa with the map and logical reason is flawless. The missions outside of that are electric and never miss a beat. The cast is outstanding, the atmosphere draws you in perfectly and Is the most immersive level design in most game I’ve ever played. The musical score is fantastic and always gives me chills. But I can totally understand why people didn’t like it. It’s the complete opposite of Halo 3’s giant set pieces and scenes. Halo 3 is outgoing and very much like the Yang to ODST’s Yin. Both games show you fighting for something so much bigger than yourself, 3 it’s the whole world and the city of Voy, and in ODST it’s a engineer of uncountable strategical importance and the city of New Mombasa. The audio logs and other collectibles in ODST put a real human touch to the abandoned mega city you’ve been in. Both games compliment each other on purpose, and you truly can’t have on without the other. But if I had to pick, I would choose ODST every time. The difference in feeling from being a 7ft talll super soldier to a rookie ODST separates from his squad is to both exciting and completely shocking. There is real danger here. No shields that can tank a hundred plasma bolts, just scattered med stations and a secretive AI telling you where to go. The game is outstanding, buts it’s not a true Halo experience. TLDR, don’t play ODST as an introduction to the Halo franchise. It’s not a perfect example of Halo as a series. Play then in order and do your research. But when you’ve finished, play ODST again and TAKE YOUR TIME. The things you will get from it are priceless. [spoiler]im sorry I just don’t like Halo 2 it was before my time. [/spoiler]

1 ReplyCE has the best multiplayer but 2 has the best campaign. ODST would be #1 if it were longer. This is actually the first poll I've seen where H3 is not in first place. Was Reach most peoples' first Halo now? It still would have been hated 5 years ago.

Edited by Ghost Wolf: 7/25/2020 7:31:44 PMI like the story for the original Halo and Halo 2. Gameplay I would say Halo 3 and ODST had it best. Halo Reach was ok, it had a nice forge world. Halo 4-5 lack luster, seemed like it missed something. Anyone else love the scene in Halo 2, when the battle breaks out between the brutes vs elites with hunters, and then the Breaking Benjamin song Blow me Away comes on, epic.
