I'm not here to whine about people spreading the word about "folk your lore." Margaret Stohl is awful, I agree. It's important that people know Bungie are hiring neglectful writers but at this point the issue is very well known to regulars on the Lore forum. We get it, they're being shitty to the universe, but that doesn't mean we need to let their failings ruin our enjoyment of the world that Staten created out of the mess Bungie's management put him through.
Destiny's lore community puts a lot of time and energy into their content. Despite the game's universe deserving better portrayal than Bungie gives it, the lore community eats up all of the content that they get and does its best to construct the awesome story behind the terrible games and careless writers. This is our hobby. We speculate on timelines and ponder the nuances of certain aspects of the Grimoire and argue about whether Oryx could potentially come back (hint, he won't.) We're not here to apologize for Bungie's failings, we do everything we can to refine the utter clusterf*ck of a timeline to understand the story.
As a result, it's so disheartening to see people skipping over the content of long, well written lore posts to write replies that add literally nothing to the OP. This isn't funny anymore. It's just stupid. You're not doing anything other than circlejerking by commenting this. We know it, casuals know it, everyone knows it. You're not spreading the knowledge. You're not contributing. You're not saying anything that needs to be said. You're just being inflammatory and it doesn't help anyone.
TL;DR "but folklore tho" comments are useless. Please be a constructive part of the community. You're sure not doing much by spamming that.

Linking to individual posts to target them for ridicule and using sexually explicit terminology to degrade their posting habits is a violation of the Code of Conduct, as it disrupts the conversation and could lead to insults and harassment of other users. I understand you want to have meaningful discussions about lore, but leading by example is the right way to go about this, NOT creating a thread whose primary purpose is to shame and insult other users who don't post in the way you think they should. Long experience on these forums teaches that this kind of thread does absolutely nothing to help, and often makes the problem you're complaining about even worse, as evidenced by many of the responses here. I'm locking this thread out of the named forums. Please feel free to make a new thread in the same vein if you'd like, as long as you avoid Code of Conduct violations, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it. Leading by example and ignoring poor/bad posts is the only way to both foster good discussion and save your own sanity :-)

2 RepliesI think “folklore” isn’t meant to insult the poster. I interpret it as many meanings but one word, given the context and history. I interpret it as “Sounds awesome, but because the lore of Destiny has now been established as ‘subject to change as we the writers see fit’, I can’t bring myself to invest into the world of Destiny since it’s not guaranteed to be as consistent as possible. However, I’d love to speculate if it was more worth my time.” It’s more an insult to Bungie as I take it. Deservedly so. Like I hope when any Bungie employees come across “folklore” that they are reminded of their “sins.”

2 RepliesI think creative and talented people should spend their energies elsewhere. Putting time, energy and love into a corporate creation where, arguably, the corporation cares only about profit is a complete waste of time. This is one of the chief failings in video game construction and ultimately prevents it from becoming a full, 3 dimensional art form. Typically it is only one or two people on a team that drive the project’s artistic story elements and since they boil down to being merely “employees” their days with the company are numbered. And if they do stay they will be “promoted” leaving the key spot to some one else. Video games can not become a serious art form in such an environment, the best they can hope for is diversionary entertainment. COD, anyone?

2 RepliesAs someone that enjoyed the lore in D1 i was interested in what they would do with it moving into D2. Seeing how it has devolved into nothingness I don’t care to spend time reading up on the new lore like I used to with D1. In case others aren’t aware of Bungie’s current treatment of the material I have made comments similar to what you are complaining about. I would argue that while ppl aren’t being constructive with said comments, at least some of them are trying to inform and prevent you or someone else from wasting time digging into lore that will be retconned on a whim in a few months.

7 Replies.... why would you guys still be trying to piece lore together when it is all folklore which bungie stated. Even Barrett said it's just folklore meaning most grimoire cards useless knowledge. Bungie deserted you guys and your still trying to figure out things that are no longer relevant. Just abandon bungie as they did to you, your efforts aren't deserving of bungo. There are plenty of other games in which you could nerd over lore. Why waste your time on a dev that beats you at every turn?

4 RepliesAnyone complaining about “Folklore” doesn’t know what Folklore is. Folklore is LORE told by the people. The Thorn and Last Word Story is 100% Folklore because it was only told by the people who knew them. There was no proof that what happened actually happened. The Books Of Sorrow aren’t Folklore. They’re just lore books. Kinda like what you find in The Elder Scrolls Online. Pathetic, honestly.

I thought this when I was looking at all the people who replied with that in my post about gun lore. Like, I know the game's written lore sucks post-grimiore. That's why I'm on the #Lore tab, to come up with better stuff they don't specify.

8 RepliesI think folks are getting caught up in the semantics between lore and folklore to see what’s going on: it’s not the relation between lore and folklore itself, it’s using that relation as a convenient excuse to alter, change, and retcon stories, characters, the narrative and events as whoever is the head writer at the time sees fit. You can’t ask fans to get invested in your stories and then you change your stories on a whim for the sake of chasing another audience or the hubris of the writer. That knocks us out of the experience, and eventually your game.
