I live in Australia, and we have recently had a law introduced that when passing a cyclist on the road, you must leave a 1 meter (3ft) distance between your car and the cyclist... No matter what.
So I'm sitting at a red light, it goes green and I take off. The road immediately bends to the left, so traffic we had stopped for was coming from the right.
Out of the corner of my eye I notice this girl on one of those shitty "kit" bikes riding merrily along looking straight ahead, unaware of me, hurtling towards her.
Mind you, she has obviously run a red light, and I have legal right of way.
I slam on my brakes and blast the horn, sphincter puckered up tighter than a frogs arse, adjustable steering column collapsing due to the sheer force of the inertia from me moving forward while everything else is trying to desperately stop.
I miss her by literally centimeters.
She rides on without so much as an acknowledgement of what has just happened.
I roll down my window and yell at her in the biggest, most threatening voice I can make (and I'm a big guy)...
Sup Girl... Why you ignoring me?
It's amazing how stupid people will put their lives in complete strangers hands. Just assuming that as a driver, you're not drunk, inebriated on drugs, mentally ill or incompetent, old, feeble, and going blind. Or just some angry jerk who's absolutely had enough for one life, and decides they don't give a flying fu*k and they're going to plow right into some stupid person riding a bike in the middle of the road. Couple of old sayings in the form of an analogy apply here. "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight." And... "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots. But there are no old bold pilots." Unfortunately, this sad fool will probably be the last one to comprehend. It wouldn't surprise me if they won't be riding bicycles very much longer. Or doing anything else for that matter. One more old saying; "Can't fix stupid."

Gotta love pedestrians and cyclists. Even when they're in the wrong your the one that gets blamed.
-
Wth, you should have just kept going. Would teach the dumb bimbo
-
Everyone needs a Donk for those situations
-
Ayo gurl!
-
Unicycle>bike
-
Done! With you. Mfs got their own lanes in nyc.
-
What's the law in oz regarding cyclists? Can they ride side by side or do they need to be single file? Tried searching google But nothing shows up.
-
Next time, speed up.
-
How's Australia?
I've never been...
-
Shame that you missed.
-
How did you know they were on the way to work?
-
I legit laughed.

Not nearly as tilting as a couple dozen cyclists taking up two lanes in a four lane fwy on the way to and from work.
-
One cyclist I can stand. An entire group of them? Hell no. I've been stuck behind a group of 20 of them on a two-lane road before. You can pass a kidney stone quicker than you can pass that bullshit.

Edited by patuca_1999: 5/17/2017 10:44:01 PMNope. A person on a bike rode out in front of you. Cyclists are always aware of their surroundings, know the laws of the road, follow the laws of the road and show respect towards others they are sharing the road with. Same can be said of motorists vs. a person in a car. Good thing for the woman on the bike, a motorist was behind the wheel that morning.

There are some forms of stupidity that no amount of legislation can accommodate. Glad you both survived:).
-
As a fellow Australian, I can sympathise with you. Had similar experiences happen to me.
-
Uncool , nothing happened, shouting at women won't educate them just keep paying attention to the road that's all we can do or get a dash cam.
-
Edited by Unicorn Goo: 5/17/2017 10:43:07 PMIn the usa, we have to give bicyclists 3 ft of the side of the road to ride.
-
Why can't cyclists ride on the side walk?
-
I -blam!-ing hate cyclists!!!! They pick and choose between following the highway code and pedestrian code. Wankers. And they undertake. They are complete arseholes
-
As an avid cyclist I never assume that a car will stop for me so I'm always on the lookout. In the end it doesn't matter if you were right, if you get hit by a car your the one that loses every time.

Edited by blade329: 5/17/2017 3:21:56 PMI hate some cyclists with a passion. Sorry, but you don't need to take up the lion share of the lane just so you can chat with your loser friends while riding.
