I've been arguing with my fiance who feels like titans are to over powered, the hammers are to strong and they get to many. Shoulder charge is to easy/shouldn't one hit, etc. The issue I have is that she doesn't have a titan, she has never used shoulder charge, and she has never used hammers. She didn't even play destiny when hammers we're at their peak so she never saw the original hammers. I can admit that shoulder charge could use an intrinsic cool down similar to the twilight garrison / shade step (I haven't unlocked it, but I've been told there is a cool down.) I told her that if shoulder charge didn't one hit kill it would be pointless and she countered with "then make throwing knives one hit kill on precision hits and remove the double knife perk and I argued that throwing knives are way longer range and you could throw them instantly whereas shoulder charge actually has a charge time. My argument was that she should play as a titan and see how these abilities actually are to use before calling them over powered, but she doesn't agree saying that she gets killed by them enough to see how easy they are. What are your thoughts?

  • She should realise that being killed by an ability often means your strategy does not effectively counter said move, and the saying "don't knock it tell you try it" comes into play. She won't fully understand until she plays the class.

  • My opinion is to have her play titan. I don't use shoulder charge because i suck at using that ability. lol

  • Shoulder charge has a cooldown, the more you use it the longer the time before you're able to use it again. After about 2-3 times you can see the difference.

    • Ah I don't know. There's been plenty of times a shoulder charging titan has been running straight at me only to be dropped by a few bullets to the head or a shotgun blast to the chest. It's the sneaky out of nowhere shoulder charges which catch you off guard which momentarily frustrate - but even then I'm usually like "Well I should have been paying more attention to the radar or I shouldn't spend so long with my weapon scoped or I should be more mobile and make myself a harder target" As for the hammers, I think they are no worse than the storm trance or golden gun apart from the aoe if they spec that way.

    • Defender is incredibly over powered in trials. It turns anything about in your favor and denies supers. It recharges faster ( cause its support) and has the hunters super in a grenade.

Striker and defender are relatively well balanced. Sunbreaker on the other hand is just absolute crap now, granted it was op initially. The hammer hit registration is terrible now, tracking is now useless, blast radius is abysmal, the subclass was overnerfed. Sunbreaker would have been great for COE this week since super kills grant more points, but its an awful subclass for pve currently. Sunbreaker needed to be balanced but they did an awful job balancing it.

I don't think as a class they are overpowered, but some aspects of their Striker class is. The melee is super strong, even after just taking 2 bullets from a pulse rifle, bullets not bursts, if they melee you, you're dead. The Lightning grenade, to me, is the most anything thing in the game ATM, the cone of damage is absolutely massive. Then there's the super itself, no one get used it to take out heavy or a group of people, the always use it to kill a single person if they come up behind them or they are losing a gunfight in close quarters. Edit: Also to comment on OP's actual opinions, just because something is nerfed doesn't mean it's not strong anymore. When I play on a Sunbreaker Titan, every time I pop my super, I get at least 2-3 kills, so it's still plenty viable. Also if you believe Titans are OP and it's fair, you're wrong. Just because Titans were neglected in year 1 doesn't justify them being overpowered now, this is the argument I made when people defended pre-nerf Sunbreaker.

          • Titans feel just right these days. They have 2 op moves though but for the most part they are well balanced now. Warlock's are still the op class imo and hunters are the weakest by far now.

              • If you set any subclass in the game properly, max armor and a chest piece with matching subclass armor increase, you can survive a shoulder charge. Peregrine Greaves are now a viable option in Crucible.

                • Experiencing abilities yourself is the only way to determine if something is OP or not.

Who cares about anything you have to say other than being jealous you can argue about such things with a partner!? I think one of the "problems" with this game or community is everyone wants to feel like they can survive every situation, and if they can't, they were killed in a way which "takes no skill". Sometimes, you walk round a corner to challenge some red armed with a scout rifle, and you're face to face with a charging titan. You're dead. Another time you turn the corner and the titans charging but he's miles off. He's dead. Sometimes you're outplayed, sometimes you're just unlucky. Not that we/BG shouldn't strive for balance, but i think the above can tend to skew peoples perceptions sometimes. Its hard not to get frustrated when you feel like you should've won an engagement, for eg i don't like a sniper having time to double bodyshot me when i'm shooting him in the face at scout rifle range. Personally i think shoulder charge is ok as is. Its relatively high risk in that it puts you right onto close quarters, potentially inside an enemy "base". I haven't found myself getting killed by it all that often. Tbh at this stage in the games life i find myself being killed the most by ridiculously skilled players. People who are savants with sniper rifles, can repeatedly land headshots on me regardless of what i'm doing and who always know exactly where i am while i'm running i circles trying to find them.

                  • No they are not and here is why. Strikers have to get close to use their charge, melee or foh. The super is a one use super and that's it. Defenders are mainly revolved around the bubble and what also helps their survivability is their force barrier which they need a Melee kill for and the titan could be at low health already. That and suppressor nades are helpful in PvP. The bubble (ward of dawn) can easily be destroyed by a foh, gg or bomb. Sunbreakers imo are balanced now. Cauterize procs by melee, grenade or super kill. Paired with fleetfire you have an ok neutral game. When Explosive pyre (pire?) works in terms of multikills is on rare occasions and the super obviously is counterable now. But in general, titans have the shortest melee range. Hunters have smoke, throwing knife, and blink strike while warlocks... Well we know about their melee already.

                    • To truly understand an ability, you do have to use it. You'll understand it's strengths and weaknesses, and you'll see how it's countered. I used to think Golden Gun was OP, but that changed after I used a hunter for quite a while.
