I am who this game was made for!

Middle aged, job, family, life. Enough disposable income that I don't cry if my $60 doesn't make all my dreams come true. I wouldn't call myself casual - I play 20+ hours a week but I'm not playing all day every day. This is why this game is perfect for people like me: 1. I don't care so much about story. Sure, a good story is cool but I'm more interested in game play and having fun. 2. I love the fact that there's a limit to how many bounties, marks, etc you can get in a week. There's always something to do when I log on but I don't feel like I have to play constantly to keep up with the hardcores. 3. I never played games on-line before and Destiny convinced me to start. I already have a small circle of on-line friends that is growing all the time. 4. I don't give a rats about PvP 5. I don't feel like there's a rush to get to lvl 30. I have been 28 for a while and haven't even really tried a raid yet. My goal is to get good at raids by the end of November so I can be close to 30 when the DLC drops. 6. The game is just plain fun to play. Sure It's repetitive but there's always something to work towards - and enough progress to keep it satisfying. So if your young or unemployed and feel like you should be entitled to a game that you can play 10 hrs a day and never repeat anything I feel bad for you. This game wasn't made for you. It was made for us.

  • I agree with pretty much everything you have said. I am really enjoying the game. But, and please really consider this. The game was not marketed to you. This game was marketed to teenagers. This game has giant stand ups in Target where children can harass their parents into purchasing it. If the game was made for you and I, then they should not have marketed it to children and teenagers. It is an exploitative practice. You said you have family well imagine you were a parent of a teenager but you were not a gamer and did not know much about games. Lets say this teenager has a part time job or a paper route, lets say that this teenager has enough disposable income for four games per year. The game is marketed to them, the game is rated for them, but the game is (as you say) not made for them. What then? If a game was marketed to you, and for you, if the ad campaign was tailored to your expectations and the ads were in places you would be expected to frequent but when you got it home it turned out it was a children's game that couldn't hold your interest but the game cost 25% of your annual entertainment budget. Wouldn't you perhaps be a little bothered? And what would be your likely emotional response if a teenager came up to you and said "I feel bad for you. This game wasn't made for you. It was made for us." Thank you for considering this.

    • Uh huh. I agree. The expectation that you should be able to play for 70+ hours a week and still have fresh and new stuff to do is ridiculous. Equally ridiculous is the idea that after playing a game for 200+ hours that you're somehow entitled to a refund.

Why this game isnt made for you/us... Im in a similar boat of getting to play an hour or two per day with maybe some extended sessions on weekends depending on family/work requirements. You will soon realize that end game content is not single player. Having 5 online friends who share the same schedule as you that will allow you to complete the raid in your specific timeframe is highly unlikely. If somehow you find a group of players on your exact schedule, then you need the following: None of them leave for another game None of them complete the raid earlier in the week before your window None of them get lucky and hit 30 on the first couple raids Also, if you want to be 30 in a month, you better start rolling both your titans through the raid every week. You only have 8 shots at the RNG starting tomorrow. (good luck) I agree with a lot of what you are saying. But you will soon hit the point of single player being nowhere near as appealing as it has been so far. Then it kind of hits you in the face that you can only advance with 5 other people, who share your schedule. FYI, it sucks.

      •
I never played games on-line before and Destiny convinced me to start. I already have a small circle of on-line friends that is growing all the time.
And this is why you enjoy it so much. Sorry, but if it was my first time playing online (Which I remember vividly), it would be mind-blowing for me, too.

      • I'm right there with you. You described how my play style and life style almost exactly. I love this game. It's by no means perfect, but it is a blast to play. I try to get on for at least an hour or two every day, more on the weekends and I never get tired of it. I'm always looking forward to the next time I can turn it on. I'm always glad to hear that there are others.

      • THINGS I WOULD RATHER DO THAN PLAY DESTINY: 1.) Jam toothpicks under my toenails and drop kick bowling balls 2.) Jump off a really tall building and land on a bike with no seat 3.) Eat an entire bowl of my roomates scab collection instead of my usual morning cornflakes 4.) Slurp rancid tuna salad out of my own butthole 5.) Rub one out with a cheese grater in a wading pool of lemon juice and margarita salt 6.) Insert a glass rod into my d!ck and then smash it with a hammer 7.) Slide down razor wire crotch first 8.) Run naked backwards through a cornfield anyone got anything else they would like to add? =)™

actually i find destiny pretty demanding when it comes to time and with this i am mainly speaking about events. for example getting to rank 3 in the iron banner can easly suck up those 20 hours a week and when you play more then one game then yeah it is demanding do i play that other game i really want to play or get to rank 3 which i also really want. a game shouldnt take a life time with this i am referring to the fact that you have to drop other stuff to acomplish something in a game. if i have to drop all other games so i can fullfil a event then yeah the game is demanding. also the caps on marks nigthfall herioc and raids exist so the content that is there doesnt dry up to fast. and another reason for the caps on marks can be because of future changes for example lets say they get rid of the marks and come with a new system then no one could complain about having gathered a 100000 marks that are now worthless. the only thing to work towards in this game is xur because of rgn if they removed him many would drop this game in a heartbeat because of the hollow shell it then would be. also i dont think the target audience was the familly man or gamer that plays once in a while. the audience they proberly tried to pull in where the sci fy gamers and shooter gamers and maby even rpg gamers atleast that is where i come from i like to make my own characters and dress them up with many different armors and clothes and go on adventure. and am i disapointed with destiny? a litle bit it wasnt really the rpg like setting i was hoping for (btw i didnt expact something as detailed in story and qeusts armors and clothes as skyrim). but atleast a bit more then what they offer now. do i regret getting destiny hell no it came with the white ps4 to me destiny was like a freebie that came with my purchase.

          • i mean no offense but if the game was meant for you then bungie needs to get out of the gaming business for a while and try to catch the elusive clue cause they missed the sweet spot for profit and for success.

I appreciate that opinion and I think that is a completely valid way of looking at things. If this game works for you that's great. And I completely understand the perspective of not having the time of day to play, heck between marriage and a full time job things get hectic (not even looking at having kids yet lol). However, I do want to point out that for a company the best bet is to target everyone, and I'd like to pose a way to give you the experience you want as well as everyone else: 1. I don't care so much about story. Sure, a good story is cool but I'm more interested in game play and having fun. As someone who plays a LOT of fighting games I totally get this. Story is not always needed to have a good time, but from Bungie its kind of expected. Add plot and a functioning skip button. Take a page from From Soft and the Souls series and let the landscape, player initiated NPC dialogues and item descriptions fill in the blanks. 2. I love the fact that there's a limit to how many bounties, marks, etc you can get in a week. There's always something to do when I log on but I don't feel like I have to play constantly to keep up with the hardcores. I completely agree with this. Especially when you plan to set a pace for the lifespan of a game doing this is needed and its nice to not feel like you are REALLY far behind people. 3. I never played games on-line before and Destiny convinced me to start. I already have a small circle of on-line friends that is growing all the time. Welcome to Online Gaming! Hope you enjoy your stay :D 4. I don't give a rats about PvP The kicker here is that Bungie has done a solid job with PvP and if you're looking for a quick bit of gaming when things get too hectic this may be a good way to go. It's very no committal which can be a nice quick respite from an otherwise busy day. But it's not everyone's cup of tea. It would be great to see more single player content. Story missions sure, but following the above idea of skip-able plot would be great, there is a lot of space with not a lot happening so it would be nice to see it fleshed out more. 5. I don't feel like there's a rush to get to lvl 30. I have been 28 for a while and haven't even really tried a raid yet. My goal is to get good at raids by the end of November so I can be close to 30 when the DLC drops. Again completely agree, they really did focus on pacing. The sad thing for many people is that even with low play times the recycled areas/quests/dungeons can be a bit old, and I don't even mean from a grinding perspective. I just mean if you try to do a couple random dungeons and get stuck with the same one 2-3 times in a row. It kind of sucks and leaves me feeling like their should be more variety. If nothing else make the boss fights more than focus boss - hide - reload - clear wave of trash - repeat (I know this comes off as really vague, but in a world with as much creativity as there is they could have incorporated vehicles, turrets, special "event" weaknesses, etc. to keep things fresh. 6. The game is just plain fun to play. Sure It's repetitive but there's always something to work towards - and enough progress to keep it satisfying. If fun to you means working towards a set of gear, a new weapon, a new level, then you are in the right place lol. If you haven't played Diablo give it a shot sometime it's a blast. But, if you do pay attention to how they reward players, how you may still be playing in the same areas to get sweet loot or obtain a higher level, they keep the experience fresh. They give you way more reward for the time you invest (referring to Diablo just to clarify). All in all I don't think saying Destiny is a bad game is a fair statement. It isn't. It just doesn't live up to the potential it COULD have, it could be so much more and that, personally, is why I have an issue with it. And in time it may live up to its potential. Either way I do hope you enjoy your time playing and have fun! At the end of the day its a game there to entertain right?

                    • I fall in to unemployed category and I still enjoy this game mainly because when it comes to games I just love getting immersed by them and completing every task at hand. So with all the different things to do in this game like patrol, story, strikes, raids, and even crucible, I find it hard to pull myself away from destiny. Yeah sure it's repetitive and yeah I have a level 30 and a lvl 29 character but that's pretty much been my life the last two months and I've enjoyed every second of it. This game was supposed to be an attraction to many types of gamers and since I can play and enjoy most types of games, this game is also perfect for me. I think the reason some people don't enjoy it is because they're just naturally born whiners and are always looking for something wrong to complain about. Look at the positive with an open mind and I think you'll see that Destiny is actually quite a great game especially considering the broad spectrum of fans it has tried to call out to.
