EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IS AN "EARNER"!
I'm sick of seeing people saying "you didn't earn level 30 RNG noob" or "lol kid thinks he earned his ice breaker"
I'm gonna start by referring back to the definition of earn, which is my own definition but feel free to look in a dictionary if you feel I'm incorrect
Earn: A payment/reward for work
Simple. The definition never outlines that to be considered "earned" the reward needs to be a specific type or decided in a particular way.
Now I'm going to show two examples of "random" rewards, one is earned one is not.
Example 1: You kindly mow your neighbours lawn, you don't know if/what you will get in return but you do it anyway. She decides to give you 10 dollars.
You EARNED that 10 dollars.
She decides to give you 20 dollars:
You EARNED that 20 dollars.
She decides just to say thank you
You EARNED her gratitude.
Example 2: You check your lotto ticket which was given to you for your birthday to discover you have become a multi-millionaire! You have been blessed by some serious luck! But you did not earn that money.
Anyone who has half a brain can see that Destiny is much more similar to example 1. You will never login to destiny to discover you've instantly been randomly given full raid gear and a vex mythoclast. Destiny sets out different jobs for you to complete, and each of those jobs has it's own loot table. You have to go out and work for it, all the RNG system dictates is how long it takes you to earn whatever you're trying to get.
You may be able to earn it in a day.
You may have to spend months earning it..
But no matter what you WILL EARN IT.
Edit: STOP USING EXPLOITS AS A COUNTER-ARGUEMENT. I'm talking about the RNG system in the game, not cheats that were never intended to be in there.

34 RepliesWrong. The current system is broken. I spent a couple of days doing tiger strikes trying to get a suros...I had a goal. Now, I bought the thing with strange coins and Xur... Know what Ill be doing now? Working to upgrade it...which is easy....then Ill be popping onto BF4. Why? Because Destiny hands everything to me and destroys any goals on progression. People whine about RNG... do they realize probability is involved? No. They dont. They dont want "chance"...they want guarantees so they can take advantage of the situation like the loot cave and atheon... so they can be OP create threads like this... and go back to COD in a few months... just so they can ruin another franchise. Examples of ruined games whom attempted to appease the noobs who wanted everything handed to them: Diablo III Destiny BOTH CREATED BY ACTIVISION... whom want to dumb down the mechanics so that they can alienate core gamers for the casuals...who have the attention spans of 15 yr old boys (who mostly need explosions and dumb stories like COD to be entertained). Truth.

Earned not earned. Who cares, You get gear I get gear. I play the game to get the gear, you play the game to get the gear. You don't see what goes on behind the scenes of another player.Who is anyone to judge who earned what. If you feel buying something from xur with the strange coins you earned is not worth it cause it feels like you didn't earn it then don't do it. People need to just play the damn game and stop whining. It's called congratulations you got to level 30. Not "you're 30 and I'm 29 so you didn't earn it so you're a noob" Every piece of gear anyone gets required them to perform some sort of task. The gear they got is a reward that they EARNED for completing that task. I didn't buy the game log in and it came with a full set of raid gear. Even then you would've earned the money to buy the game so if it did in a sense I would have still earned it. There is luck involved in the game but you can't just sit there and be lucky. You have to go complete a task and test your luck. This whole earning bullshit is just a bunch of people expressing their envy, and they just need to grow a pair, shut up and play.

Whether it is perceived as earned or not, my un-earned weapon fires EXACTLY the same as the "earned" one. Weird! Who cares. And if someone else cares about my gear, they, well, shouldnt. It is just people that are so ineffectual in their real lives that they have to feel special and accomplished in this one.

The fact that you may have played for a long period of time dose not mean you earned anything, it is just a small variable that plays a roll in the RNG system. I'm sorry it sucks but its sad and true. example of how to earn gear: if a bounty says kill 10000 people and then you get a specific piece of armor: thats earned if the Game says -blam!- it work hard or don't i really don't care. - and then maybe you get something: that's luck

The only people who haven't earned shit are the people who stay back for the entire mission/strike/raid/crucible and somehow get an exotic drop

For example, one of my clan mates got 3 pieces of raid armor this week during normal and a Mythoclast on his first ever hard raid. Another clan mate, who's been raiding since day one, has gotten zero pieces of armor and is sitting on a bag full of shards and energy. He put in just as much effort, but the payout is nowhere near equal. So, the guy who hit level 29 first, and probably put in more work than all of us, will probably be the last to hit 30 because of RNG. Yeah, a player may earn all his gear, it's still a bad system. It's like giving 6 people at work the same job, they all show up, put in various amounts of effort, but their pay is randomly generated and the guy who slacked off most of the time (or spent a lot of time dead in the raid) gets a better pay out than the guy who picked up that slack. Why they didn't implement a raid token system where you have some control over your gear, like pretty much every other MMO out there, is beyond me.

My cat attacks this ball for hours on end keeping me logged in the crucible. I earned my cats love for keeping him entertained and I earned my crucible points by being clever. I was given my loot drops at random but who cares I still got them.. WAAAAHOOOO I'M A EARNER...
