Exo species

We all know there are going to be three races in Destiny: Human, Awoken, and Exo. We all know what humans are, as they have appeared in quite a few videogames before Destiny. Awoken seem to me to be the next human evolution. But what are the Exo? Are they robots, cyborgs, AI constructs? My personal opinion is that they are enhanced cyborgs, but what are your opinions?

I believe the Exo are going to be the resurrected dead. Humanity had its back against a wall, they needed more man-power, so the next logical choice was to take the dead, dying or volunteers and turn them into men (and woman) of metal and electricity to fight anew. The dark and sinister-ness comes from the fact that they are cybernetic undead, fighting with the zeal of people born again. Their purpose is to destroy the enemies of man-kind with extreme prejudice. However... they seem conflicted. Questions of who... what am I? The image I provided evokes feelings of focus, rest, but he also seems transfixed and concerned. It's amazing how a metal face can still show emotion. But, in the end, regardless of what they become they will forever be remembered as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and lived to pay it again and again. They will never be forgotten, their names etched in the halls of history, hallowed in time. It's almost beautiful when you think about it.

    • That's a very compelling idea, and terrifically expressed, but my two cents would be that "sinister" seems to connote a malicious intent rather than just a hostility toward the enemy. I'm on board with the cyber/exoskeleton premise, but rather than having been resurrected by humanity, maybe they could be a group that perceived of themselves as a next phase of human potential. In addition to "exoskeleton" the prefix also conjures thoughts of exobiology, or even genetic exons, so perhaps they experimented on themselves with the intent of surpassing the rest of humanity---or even dominating them---but when the Collapse came, they were nearly destroyed and were obligated to rejoin humanity in an alliance of convenience or else face destruction.  The "isolated hero" angle is great, but it kind of makes them almost too heroic---too easy to celebrate over the Humans. But if they were once sinisterly over-ambitious, there's a lot more potential for dramatic  conflict as the series unfolds. A lot more uncertainty that could contribute to some fantastic plot lines. It would also add a lot of depth in terms of whether some of them regret their ambition and some of them still hold on to it.  In any case, kudos to Bungie for getting this much speculation out of us with so few words.
