What is your personal attitude towards achievements? Uninterested You're pleased to get them but you would never go out of your way to do so Semi-interested You enjoy going for achievements that are appealing to you Achievement Hunter You try to obtain as many as possible without particularly strenuous effort Achievement Perfectionist You will try as hard as humanly possible to acquire every achievement in your games I've been achievement hunting for a while now. The great thing about the idea of achievements to me is that even years down the line, your accomplishments will stay with you as proof of what you did back in the day. Developers really ought to try and make more creative, fun and challenging achievements if you ask me. The VidMaster challenges for example. I think they are shining examples of what achievements should be. They brought people together, created new and exciting scenarios and provided a pretty reasonable challenge. All in one. I could go on and on but I'll leave it there. What are your thoughts?

  • I try interesting tactics in Video games for the 360 because I like having secret 'Chievs.

  • On my first run of a game I don't usually bother going out of my way to get them. On the next run though I will hunt those bastards down!

    • Between Hunter and Perfectionist. There are some games I can't bother with, but most I try as much as I can to get 1000/1000. I have like 7 games or more completed.

    • Totally agree, with what you say. I'm inbetween Hunter and Perfectionist. I like to 100% my games, I will go try to get most achievements, but I will not die and scream if I don't get them all.

    • I generally like trying to get as much achievements as possible. It was really nice though, how Halo 3 also gave you in-game rewards for completing an achievement. Halo 3 started my achievement addiction.

    • Perfectionist. Especially on games with ridiculous achievements. Like Lost PLanet 2's stupid achievement for Noms.

    • I never use to care about them very much. Then, as I approached 20,000 Gamerpoints, I took note and wanted to push myself over the mark myself. Alas, my brother was buying and selling games for profit at the time, and wanted to test some that he bought; he popped in The Simpsons Game, pressed Start and got that one. I wasn't happy. Whilst the closest thing to tangibility Achievements give is numbers on a screen, it's still a reason to go back and replay a title if you enjoyed it enough the first time around.

I have a love/hate relation with achievements. I love unlocking them and having a sort of trophy to say "look what I accomplished!" but then there are a lot of times when I find myself not playing the game for the actual game but instead for achievements.

    • I played video games for fifteen years-ish before being introduced to "achievements". I really don't care about them.

    • I don't care about achievements at all. They're an artificial way of padding the game, and generally I'll get half of them just by playing normally. The rest, I won't go out of my way for them.

    • Im between hunter and perfectionist. I like the additional challenges they provide and Ive been very proud of the games I got all of the achievemnts in. Then you have games like Reach and even Halo 3 that add more achievements after I got all of them :/ I remember it was me and my friends' sole objective last summer was to 100% ODST. Those vidmasters....

The only real "Achievement Perfectionist" moments I have are when I feel like beating the game on the hardest difficulty or if I have people who want to do it too. Super long easter egg achievements in Black Ops 2? No thank you. Other than that, achievement hunter.

      • I'm an achievement hunter usually when I'm bored of the game I try playing to unlock the fun achievements

      • Half way between Hunter and Perfectionist There are some achievements that are just too time consuming and lack any real fun to them. I'm not going to overly invest in them if they prove to be ridiculous, for mere points. But I do go for as many as I can.

        • I only go for achievements in games that I really like. Everything else I avoid, because I prefer playing a game for fun over a pixelated achievement. I have too many friends over Xbox Live that always go for 1000/1000... They care about game completion percentage and sometimes chose to play a game by themselves for achievements over playing with friends.

By your definitions there, I'm semi-interested. I just go for ones I'll find fun. A lot of times, the first time I play through a game, I'll ignore them, then if I liked the game, I'll take a look at the achievement list for the ones that look fun and hit those, too. That gives me a little replay value, I guess.

        • Depends if I care about the game or not. It's less about the gamer score and more about that I did everything I could do in a particular game.

          • I don't really care about earning achievements. I actually hate them because they pretty much singlehandedly killed cheat codes.

I would be more than likely to go out of my way to get an achievement and ill look through the list of them so I can remember to get them while im playing the game but I usually wont go way out of my way to get one that is time consuming unless I like the game or im close to 100 percenting the game. Also if a game is multiplatform ill get it on the 360 partly so I can increase my gamerscore.
