Your Narration?

So I have been skimming through stories and have read others fanfictions for other games for the last few years. Everyone uses either first or third person point of view (sometimes alternating), so my question: what is your narrative mode and is there are reason behind you using it?

  • You could say I use a mix. Using third person mostly to narrate but then using first person in thoughts. Mostly feeling this as a good combination after reading the Inheritance Cycle.

  • I use both, sort of. I write from a third-person perspective, but the narration is that of the character; for instance if the character is drunk, groggy, or drugged, sentences will be short and sometimes open-ended. (Example: Light. A blur of colors, muted sounds. His own breathing. In. Out. Slowly, regulated, like waves in a sea of life. His side; pain. Light, blinding this time. No. Too soon. Light was bad. He had been blind. Altos could not think. Sedatives. Of course. He was drugged. What did they do to me? He had been out too long. Why am I here? What is this place? What happened to me? His mind was a blaze of questions. He could barely remember the events of yesterday. The day before? No. He couldn’t think; not good. ) Sometimes I "zoom out" to provide a bigger view, but as a general rule I write from third-person omnipotent (third-person with the ability to look into the minds of characters)

  • First person. I believe it helps develop a small amount of characters much more thoroughly.

  • I use first person. I just use it because its fun and it almost feels like I am living what is happening in the story. What my character does is exactly what I would do if I was in the situation.

  • I use something like first person in my story here. Come to think of it, no story I've read is quite like it in structure. But there is no other way to present everything.

  • Third person is my usual preference. I'm trying out first person for my Destiny stories. I find that first person works better if your goal is to get an individual's perspective in detail. Third person works if you want to deal with a situation more objectively and include information that the main character may not be privy to. It really depends on what sort of presentation I'm going for.

  • i tend to use first person, but use the character narrating outside the action. That way you get sort of a combination of the both, which seems more realistic to me. i also like the freedom it allows me.
