The New Weapon Update

So it seems like auto rifles, pulse rifles, fusion rifles, hand cannons, and shotguns will be updated pretty soon. Being a scout rifle user, this doesn't really affect me that much, but what about you guys? I know for a fact that a 9.7% damage buff for pulse rifles is going to help out a bit, especially for guns such as the red death & oversoul edict. But for fusion rifles & auto rifles, how much do you guys think the range & projectile spread nerfs are going to affect them? I think it'll most notably be seen in the crucible they're probably the most used weapons there (at least from my own experience, up for anything, suros regime, etc). Maybe they're be less ohk from fusion rifles in midrange. I just wanted to know your thoughts on this.

  • I am In love with it I use scout rifles the most then hand cannons range is not a big deal for me I love the red death so am so happy about the extra 9.7 damage. I use snipers so it dose not affect me. Am happy shot guns will be useful in PvE now always wanted to use then in PvE but the damage was way to little before.

    • What they need to update is on "full auto" pulse rifles when you hold down the trigger and it just stops shooting randomly!!!!!!!!! This pisses me off so much which is why i dont use pulse rifles.

      • This will be fun. I've been wanting to use Bad Juju or the Oversoul Edict in pvp for some time now. Maybe now these rifles can shine in battle

          Have done just fine with pulse rifles here, pvp or pve. A slight damage buff, 5% at the absolute most would have been fine, but 9.3638484637 is overkill. Prepair to be sniped by op pulse rifles... I like some of the ideas and the effort in the changes, but it seems all wrong. The metrics are being used incorrectly, the reasoning is not strong, and the numbers are just... its like their using the live game for testing instead of a focus group. This seems like trying tonfix bad food by pouring salt and sauce on it. The whole weapon approach was wrong to begin with. No amoint of tweeking will balance improper metrics.

        • A very welcome update, tired of being sniped in the back by autos, hand cannons were ok but thorn was really the only pain. Fusion rifles are still gonna be annoying but i give credit to the guardians who master the timing. Shotguns wont change for the most part although i doubt ill be able to carry my team just because i have Universal Remote anymore. All i can say is i hope other players in my team arent complete garbage anymore.

          • The buff will make my timepiece more useful, and really won't change how I use my epilogue or up for anything, or my hand cannons.

          • I'm glad for the pulse rifle buff. I like using bad juju but it just needed that extra bit of damage.

          • ARs are annoying in Crucible and PRs have been due for a buff. It's not an unnecessary update, but they probably should have rolled it out with the Heavy ammo patch, along with something for Valentine's Day.

          • I still think pulse rifles need more ammo in the clip or faster reload speeds. The damage upgrade will make them most useful, I just hope they add impact to them as well. I'm sick of all the new weapons having zero impact

              What Bungie's beloved metrics fail to acknowledge is that this is a preference issue and not a OP issue. Pulse rifles and whatnot could be significally better than ARs and we'd still have the majority of players using the latter - for the simple fact that it's an easy to use weapon. In the case of the HC it's more of a style issue. My guess is that they could buff pulse rifles by 50 % and we'd still not see that many with it. It's a boring weapon to use and it requires more precision than an AR - precision being something 95 % of the players don't have.

              • My question is,"Just how much will near 10% increase in base damage help Pulse Rifles?" Will they actually be useable in PvE? Will they become the middle ground between ARs and Scouts they are meant to be?

              • The ONLY adjustments that were needed was for pulse rifles, and for shotguns in Pve. Period.

                • Fusion and shotgun will still rule over Crucible: the amount of starting ammo is smaller, but nothing was said about the ammo drops through the matches.

                  • I think it's great. I'm not sure why everyone is so mad about something they haven't seen in action yet especially when, based on the stated design intentions and numbers provided in the weekly update, the changes all make sense. When viewed within the TTK framework, it makes more sense to [i]slightly[/i] reduce the effectiveness of some weapons to foster the use of others. It makes perfect design sense and has clearly been thought about in-depth. I think just hearing that the weapons will change is enough to send most Destiny forum-goers into a rage, regardless of the actual impact it will have on the game, both in PvP and PvE. And that's sad because, if you read the breakdown, Bungie's attempting to bring the weapons more in line with their ideas for what each weapon is meant to excel at. Not to mention that the overperformance of some weapons has led to a massive weighting toward their usage. Balancing the weapons will result in a wider array of useful and useable builds, which is variety. And God knows Destiny could use some variety.

                    • None of it was needed. Pulse rifles will never be a popular choice because AR's are easier. The only reason The battle rifle in halo was popular is because the AR can't headshot. The AR nerf is the 5-6th time it's been nerfed. The hand cannon nerf was uncalled for. And the range drop+ accuracy nerf is going to smack TLW so hard. Which pisses me off because it's my go to pvp weapon. Sure hand cannons can hit at scout range. But scouts do better at that range both in damage and recoil. The shotguns getting yet another range nerf is stupid. You practically have to point blank in pvp for a one shot unless you have hammer forged. Besides most people run a full auto shotgun in pvp which is not going to be effected by the range nerf at all. And it hurts the pump one's even more. The 2 buffs the patch will bring will not change anything. People use fusion rifles/snipers more then shotties in pve because of their range. And getting in melee range is not worth the damage a pump can give you. And I already addressed the pulse rifle thing at the beginning. They didn't even address the necrochasm.
