Sleeping in total darkness.

I find that the only comforting way for me to fall asleep is for there to be no light at all and to hear the sound of my ceiling fan and humidifier. When I was younger, even as a teenager, I felt like my house was "haunted". I couldn't go to sleep unless my bedroom door was wide opened, a nightlight on (yes, a nightlight) and music playing. Now that I'm older, married and a parent, I've realized that I still need that sound (at least a fan) but I want it pitch black. Perhaps I feel more comfortable in the dark because I'm not alone. I also, more times than not, fall asleep while softly rubbing my feet together. Weird, I know. What about you? What's comfortable to you when trying to fall asleep? What are your before sleeping habits?

  • Complete darkness and silence are my two best friends at night, at least ordinarily. It's actually sort of funny, because I used to be absolutely terrified of the dark when I was a child, for quite some time I literally kept the light in my room on while I went to sleep. Not a nightlight, an ordinary lamp. I have no idea how I was able to do that now, honestly. I can't sleep in a well-lit room, even when the sun first starts coming up and the faintest of its rays start slipping through the window between the shutters in the morning, it keeps me awake if I'm awake already.
