I find I have the same problem with the Radar and the background contrast. I often have to move or point my character in a different direction to read it well. I wonder if normal color vision players have the same problem. The engram color issue bothers me a lot less in this game than in the Borderlands series. At least in Destiny the engrams you see are only yours, no one else can pick them up. In Borderlands is a loot race especially when playing with strangers as all the loot is available to all the players. I just pick up every engram I see since I'm going to decode it anyway for the materials at the very least. I find the biggest issue for me is the color of the enemy shields in PVE.
