In my opinion the number one reason people aren't finishing the Hard mode is due to the lack of heavy ammo people bring in with them. Some don't even bring in any and rely on rng for heavy drops. Crota won't go down, and the blame gets put on the sword bearer for messing up. When in fact Crota wasn't put down at all and ends up slicing an articulated cut into the brave hunter. That and all the bugs. Two middle fingers up to you bungie.

The sword bearer has a really hard job, and their are few people out there who are willing to be sword bearers. The rest of the fireteam needs to have the patience to endure 20 or so wipes with the swordbearer until everyone gets into the groove.
-
I think even more than that, it's dedication to actually finish. It's not supposed to be easy, it's called hard raid.

Edited by CuttyCut: 1/26/2015 2:58:42 PMMy group never cheesed normal and are an above average team. The issues we've faced in the HM mode encounter have mainly centered around bugs or just bad luck. Other than poor execution causing deaths, here are the highlights: 1. Sword disappearing 2. Ogres not spawning or spawning late 3. Swordbearer hiding/inconsistent mapping 4. Hunter blink-striking Crota for invisibility, Crota killing them anyway 5. Gatekeeper comes up the stairs to the second floor (scary as sh!t) 6. Crota actually standing while "down" 7. Hallowed Knights coming through the glass at the beginning. 8. Boomers that won't aggro or stun-lock with maxed BH crit hits 9. Thrall attack through the glass. 10. Crota kneels for 1-2 seconds.

Well this is harder for me to judge since I run it with a regular group. Heavy ammo is definitely a solid answer. Would argue that health might also be a solid second if not first. Most players seem to be disorganized on their entry and exit points throughout the raid. Boomers that target the safe player inside the building tend to hit the slower ones behind him.

bump i have beaten it 5 times and every time all shooters had over 20 packs

I've seen people bring truth not even upgraded still attack 302, legendary vendor machine guns, primary weapons not even slightly upgraded. Does anybody realize this isn't a place for upgrading? Can we all have every weapon slot max upgraded first before we come into a raid??? Lol
-
Crota ran In to the crystal room on us....-blam!-ing crazy shit

All the dying!!!

Glitches, glitches and more glitches.

Nah. #1 everytime I try is bugs. Swordbearer hides sometimes pretty well, crota swings immediately after getting up, or ogres take forever to spawn after second swordbearer death. Will admit 1/3 is people not having a way to gain hp with a weapon/ability/orbs. If noobs always buy everything from Xur then why don't they have the armor for their class that grants them hp with orbs lol.

Because too many people cheesed normal mode, they weren't properly prepared for hard mode. Plain and simple.
-
My #1 reason is that I don't have that much experience with the new raid and neither do my teammates. Granted it's all out own fault for cheering the shit out of normal mode both times we completed it, the only part id actually do anything was in the thrall hallway and the death singer really. So I literally have no idea how to complete it the real way. I'm learning though and slowly gathering shards for 32. Hopefully within the next few weeks I can have a legit CE hard completion.

Edited by Kalibane: 1/26/2015 2:44:22 PM#1 reason is lack of patience. Crota doesn't die in five attempts and people start leaving. Then you have to replace them and integrate them into the flow. It's the first week of hard mode and you expect him to die in five attempts? Cmon people. Crota is still easy compared to other games with raids but it's the first fight that you have to give thought to your talents and gear set up. And the funny thing is that the once piece of gear that people are obsessed with, GHorn, is so not necessary. Then when you throw in the disappearing sword bug, the Crota kneels for one second bug and the random attempt where the Sword Bearer runs and hides it's no wonder people aren't killing him.

Synths are an absolute must. I took 15 in with me and returned with 5 thanks to a great team, it could of been a LOT worse. Plus I was using Dragons Breath and not wasting a single shot thanks to Crotas slow movements. DPS is useful with them Solar Flares

Crota was one hit on the first try w/ a group of randoms. I shot my last Gjallarhorn rocket and unloaded my Abyss Defiant. Mine was the only rocket... I heard Black Hammers and Icebreakers. I'm not sure if people were shooting the Oversoul, but I said "don't worry about the Oversoul. Shoot Crota. Please, just shoot Crota, so he goes down." The Sword carrier died and Oversoul killed the rest of us. My migraine is back. I wish to Christ I would have saved one more rocket... -blam!- Me!

People are not finishing the hard raid because of lack of knowledge, lack of coming into it prepared and lack of skill. Knowing what to do and how to react is critical on this raid. My last completion we were about to take crota down. In the middle of full on enrage the boomers decided out of nowhere to agro the sword bearer. A simple shot in the head with black hammer shut that shit down and we were able to complete the mission. If I would not have rocked that boomer we would have failed. Everyone else was sitting there cheering because we were about to win. Everyone wants to watch crota die. The last thing you need to be looking at is the sword bearer beating up on crota. Everyone else's job is to keep him safe but so few actually pay attention. Sword bearer jumps down and I make damn sure nothing gets withing 10 feet of him. Everyone worries so much about themselves and not enough about covering and helping teammates. I love this raid because it's not about being a bad ass lone wolf. It's about team work. The faster everyone figures that out the better.
-
Me, "Do you have Gjallarhorn/Hunger of Crota?" Them, "Yes it's maxed" Me, ::sends invite:: 5minutes later Me: "ok everyone ready pop your ammo synths and lets do this." 1 minute later Me: ok everyone shoot in 3..2" Them, "someone shot for me. I didn't get any heavy ammo to drop" Me, "............" Kick Member from fireteam. If you don't have Wolfpack rounds you don't have Gjallargorn. If you don't have ammo synths. You bring nothing to the table.
-
The real reason is people aren't Chessing him like they should ..... You want loot cheese !!!!!!!!! Bwhaaaa ha ha
-
Sword dissappeared on last run last night. Crota had maybe 5% health... We drop him and the sword magically disappeared. Many a rage quit
-
I think its communication... people are scared to say I dont have rockets which is -blam!-ing sting because I and the fireteam cant read minds ill double up if need be np... but if u cant tell I dont know
-
I blame the boomers

Edited by Brokenspade: 1/26/2015 1:47:03 PMMy Gajigglyhorn ate 40 something ammo cakes trying to bake crotato this week. Xurrival better bring synthesis next week or I'm gonna run out
-
Would also be nice if the heavy ammo bug was fixed so you don't lose it every time you die
-
anyone else been shooting at crota for the second attack on him with the first sword and his shield get "stuck" for lack of a better way to describe it. we were attempting last night and its like our rockets did nothing! we got dmg #s scrolling we all had ghorns maxed out but his sheild wouldnt go down. also had rockets stop tracking crota if he moved at all!
