It took me a while, but I kinda like nested replies now. That being said they can feel clunky sometimes. They could use a bit of a clean up. The big thing for me is that the site fails to adequately direct users to the right forums for posting threads. It's gotten a little bit better thanks to work by the Flood, comments by DeeJ, additions to the site by the web team, etcetera, however it still needs a LOT of work. At best it went from little to no direction to vague sub-titles that barely do anything. Utilize the banners to lay down the law, or notify people of exactly what they should be posting in that particular forum, or something. It needs to be direct. It needs to be in people's face. All the other fixes are dancing around the problem and it just hasn't worked. Another thing, not big, but I'd like it if they mentioned the app is just a portal for the actual Bungie.net. Too many people think this place is just part of an app and it degrades how they act in general. They don't understand how old or how rich this community's history actually is. Finally, something needs to be done about the absolute shit attitude that starts in #Destiny and spreads outward. There's so much senseless anger in there. It's insane.

Rarely browse on the app, usually at work on large screens (don't judge) and b.net looks like an app, feels like an app, smells like an app.... AAAAHHHH! b.net is an app! Seriously though, they need to implement some features to make it more forum like and functional as such. Edit: @DE4TH

  • I agree with nested replies. I've never found the old structure to be conducive to anything but circular conversations. That said, chapter and member title development I agree with.

  • 1 major issue I feel needs addressed is transparency with upcoming patches/updates. I think it was Blizzard with Diablo 3 that did this (that I'm familiar with at least), but they had Public Test Servers. I'm assuming you are most familiar with these and understandably, implementing this on pc is probably much easier than consoles. But aside from that, they had this "patch/updates" page that showed the upcoming patch. On that page, they showed what they have patched for the Test Servers, what they were going to patch or add highlighted in some other color, and then changes that were made to the patch itself. It was as if it was a livestream of they're work in-house. With a game like Destiny, I strongly recommend something like this. Add transparency for customers. It can build trust. Have departments constantly update their part of the page to show progress. Hell, gives the interns something to do ;)
Finally, something needs to be done about the absolute shit attitude that starts in #Destiny and spreads outward. There's so much senseless anger in there. It's insane.
It takes a long time to gain the trust of a customer, and only moments to lose it. People are mad, mate. IMO, the single best thing Bungie could do to improve the situation is actually have a dialogue with their customers on issues. Companies like id software, Valve, and Epic Megagames were models of how to manage communities in a positive way. With Bungie, it's like staring at a brick wall. Vault space, legitimate bugs in the raids, an exotic upgrade system that punishes the early adopters of Destiny, and nothing but cold blank stares coming back, and weekly "fluff-dates" all contribute to the perceived void between the company and some of it's most loyal fans. In the business I'm in, you start to get worried when you see/hear things like "I feel ignored as a customer," and, "I paid good money for this, but I don't feel like the bugs are even being addressed." Destiny is running on the vapors of people like me that bought the Ghost or Legendary editions of the game, and the first two DLCs with it. if they don't address, or at least acknowledge, these concerns, people will be far less likely to buy the "Comet"expansion and subsequent DLC, much less Destiny 2. The heartbreaking part of all of this is many people (self included) have been fans of this studio since Marathon in the 90's; it is a genuine shame to see this rift that they are allowing to form between them and their customers--especially when it is such an easy thing to address. IMHO.

  • Eh, the people within the forum of the latest IP are always caustic. It's nothing new.

  • Fair enough; some of it may also be due to the fact that the average user posting in there is probably 13 years old, or less. Try having a rational conversation with a kid that age...Vets that have been around since Marathon seem far fewer in number these days :-/

  • Uhhh... This is about the site, not the game.

His last paragraph was about the toxicity of the Destiny forum. I'm merely putting in my 2 cents as to what I see is the biggest issue there. Also, same comments can extend to the website. People have issues. People would love to get Bungie feedback.

  • I'm in the private group where this thread was discussed before it was made. I was part of said discussions. The OP credits me in his post. I know what I'm talking about.
