Maybe it's like when you were in school and wanted to write "X was here" even though you knew you would be caught because of it.
Then again I think it's just to add onto the whole derelict location feel. Since a run down location would probably be tagged and graffitied by different people because there would be no cops around to catch them...but seriously, who would waste time to write "NO ONE EVER SURVIVES" on a wall instead of running for the exit?

Totally. I can definitely rationalize [i]some[/i] graffiti in an urban environment, but infested space cruisers??

If we are talking about alien isolation here, then some of that graffiti was to tell others that they would be shot upon approach, others were just to add to the atmosphere of creepy considering that it was a broken society... But then it's like, who would have time to stop and write "YOU ALWAYS KNOW A WORKING JOE" in paint? If I were getting hunted down by something that hears my every move I wouldn't go ahead loudly Shaking and spraying paint all over a wall.
