I already answered this question, you need to have Eris' item equipped when you kill CROTA to get the CRUX.

had the eris class item equipped and the ally…killed Crota with the sword and sure enough…No crux of crota….I did this twice

Not true had the eris cape and my buddy had the ally equipped and neither of us got it.
