Even with the patch coming out on Tuesday, anyone can complete lanterns, death singer, and Crota solo. It's a difficult task and will require a lot of attempts - also, it would require one gaining the check point from someone off LFG if you don't want to run bridge with a group, but never the less, it is doable. Also, you can hit 32 by just doing lanterns which is simple (run from thrall, start bridge, jump on rock, snipe ogres) it will just take longer to obtain that gear.
So saying that a matchmaking system is needed for people without friends to run with is not true. I'm not saying there should or shouldn't be a match making system, I'm just pointing out anyone with enough skill and/or determination can hit 32.

"You can solo once you've lfg'd" is not a reason for no matchmaking. If the raid was doable solo completely you might have an argument to make.

No but not being able to run VoG the only thing you are missing out on is 1.0 gear (and a sweet raid) - but honestly, VoG shouldn't have MM, it requires more strategy and communication than anything I've ever played on a console. CE can be soloed by anyone skilled and dedicated enough to do so

If VoG had MM there would be more people complaining about their experience, the difficulty, and how terrible they think the game is because they wouldn't be smart enough to find a good group of players, they would just match make their way. If a way to kick people from match made games was implemented it would be abused and people would get all mad about it. The only people that don't mind spending 2+ hours in VoG are people new to it. This isn't PvP or a strike, VoG requires everyone doing their part and communicating with the rest of the team. When this doesn't happen it create a bad experience for the players and that's what bungie wanted to avoid. They have said since way before the game launched that this would be this way and that the raids would only be for those willing to find 5 others willing to go up against their hardest challenge. Just because people feel inconvenienced by having to LFG themselves doesn't mean bungie should change their stance.
