An interesting read. But your flaw is presuming that the weapons should be based on conventional technology. Why? Because they aren't frickin' lasers (on sharks :)?
This game takes place a unspecified amount of time in the future. But the Traveler ushered in a three century period of unparalleled prosperity and technological advance, so it's at least that far into the future. Even post collapse, guardians are still able to flit from planet to planet, even when any two given planets could be on opposite ends of the damn solar system, like it ain't no thing.
Let's give them some slack on having somewhat unrealistic weapons properties.
Besides Suros looks like a classic sci-fi ray gun anyway. I'm happy to assume it incorporates something a little beyond "convential" technology. :)
EDIT: for clarity and to say "realism in a game should never trump pure fun and blowing shit up."

Meh, it bugs me though that things like sniper rifles have such low impact when in real life they have the biggest impact aside from hmgs... Yet damage in this game correlates to impact, yet a high impact band canon does less damage than a low impact sniper. No matter how you look at it, unless you ignore physics entirely, the weapons in this game (rather stats) make no sense from a logical standpoint.

Perhaps. But again, because sci-fi, because phlebotinum, because rule of fun. If all the weapons were absolutely realistic, then the only things worth a damn would be fusion rifles and rocket launchers.
