I love the Iron banner armour. Yes, you can get armour with similar stats from the vendors, but the Iron Banner armour denotes competence in PvP. Before the DLC, my hunters armour consisted of regular, strike, raid and PvP armour, to correspond to the disciplines I was competent in.

Iron banner armor stats are exactly the same as all the other vendors armor stats.
