Why Do People Cheat?

I'm good at the game, but it's easy loot.

322

I'm not good at the game, but I paid for the game.

9

The glitches make it too hard.

12

It's more fun to cheat it.

26

I don't cheat.

201

I get that people want the loot, and that people want to "play the game how they want." I guess I just don't understand playing the game if you're just going to cheat. Wouldn't you rather get better at the game? For every cheese video, there's another video of someone showing a strategy to doing it correctly. Maybe I'm just missing something. Or maybe everyone else is playing video games the right way, and I'm wrong. It would even be acceptable to just say, "I'm not very good, but I still want to see what all the loot is about." For some reason, no one will do that. Most are quick to point out the bugs or what they think are bugs. The second you call them bad, you're a douche bag or some other name. The title is what I'm curious about though, and I don't mean it offensively. If you're a cheater, (Let's be honest, if you're cheesing, it's cheating. Don't sugarcoat poop, we know it's shit.) why do you do it?

  • Funny how many folks responded "I don't cheat." I find that when I find a raid team with 5 random people they never want to do anything but use exploits. One pushing the Templar became well known, I probably ran the raid 30 times and not once did I have a teammate that didn't have to push it off. Now I am experiencing the same thing with Crota's end for the bridge and for Crota. My conclusion is people will take the easiest way out if it is available to them. So developers are going to have to be super thorough in their coding an testing if they want their content to be exploit-free.

Why do others care how people cheat?

  • realisticly its called pragmatism... if you were a guardian irl and you are fightin atheon, than it would very wise to take the easiest way to kill it. game wise... i can understand it to some degree, cause its just a game, no point in taking a long time to kill a boss if you can kill him easier, it saves time. time that can be spent in other parts of the game

  • Im actually pretty good at this game, however, i have been playing since launch and i cant count or care to remember how many times ive been screwed by RNG. But that hasnt forced me to cheat, then again i have no idea how to cheat. If bungie made this game like borderlands, which bosses and mini bosses just shot out loot of all rarity when you killed them, this would of been a huge hit.

    • I think it is fun myself :p but only when it does not set an unfair advantage to my fellow gamers. I would never do it in a multiplayer only game as it usually hurts others. In something like the raid it is a matter of circumstance.

    • After beating it like 7 times I start to get bored. I still want the rewards, so sometimes I just do it the fast/easy way. If I have the team I know and like, then it's fast enough to just beat it straight up. If I have a bunch of randos and some of them just can't stay alive and bring everyone else down with an oversoul, or they fail to do their job of warning people about boomer knights? Yeah, I'm just going to cheese it. I think of it like civil disobedience against an excessively grindy system, since I've already beaten it legitimately enough times and I'm not experiencing anything new by doing my 10th legit run.
I get that people want the loot, and that people want to "play the game how they want." I guess I just don't understand playing the game if you're just going to cheat.
So... you DON'T get that people want to play the game how they want and they want loot, is what I'm seeing. I'll make it simple. A vast majority of people don't cheese raids and strikes because they're not good or for glitches or for skills or fear or failure or whatever. A vast majority of the people take these shortcuts because playing the same content over and over only to get constantly screwed by RNG sucks. Cheesing makes it suck less.

      • They dont actually want to play the game, they just want instant rewards. Like i keep saying, fear of failure, or the skill lvl required to beat it. One of the two.

        • I will do anything at least once "the way it was supposed to be played" to know that I can do it. After that, I do whatever my group wants to do, but they usually pick the way that gets them their loot in less than an hours time.

The only time i cheese is with randoms. Its just easier that way. When me in my buddies play we always go for the challege. We even do wild stuff like Vault of Glass with three people just fpr the challenge, but with people that i dont typically play with, Crota can be a pain depending on everyones skill and chemistry

        • I have a couple friends that aren't quite high enough to do the raids legit. If we tow them through with some cheese we can all play together sooner.

        • Ive come to find that serious players are more likely to cheese as it can be far quicker and they can move on to the next thing. Most filthy casuals dont even know how to cheese.

        • I only cheesed vault of glass because the bugs just started to get too irritating and when I was getting shards and triples 90% the time I just wanted to do it with the least amount of stress and as quick as possible, most of the time I found it more fun cheesing Templar and Atheon than doing it legit. But regarding any other glitches/exploits I've never gone near them.

          • I prefer to do it legitimately, at least on my first run through. After that, I couldn't care less if I used a more effective strategy to shave time off of doing one of the few activities in the game repeatedly.

          • Gonna go out on a limb and say that 95% or higher of the people that voted "im good at the game but it's easy loot" are actually terrible at the game and couldn't beat the encounter legit.

          • I guarantee everyone here on this forum that whines about "cheating" used cheat codes in some game somewhere. If you haven't then good for you. But when I can spend five minutes doing something instead of an hour or two I'm going to do the five minute way.

            • I want to run crota legit all the way through but everyone always wants to glitch it so that's why I do it. We all know they will fix the glitches so I dont want to become dependent on them. I'd rather just be a boss and do it legit. Ran crota four times and only got to run it legit once. It's going to suck when hard comes out and all these idiots i run with can't do it because it's patched.

            • How can I put this ? If you are someone who has from day one clocked in tons of time & effort into this game & gets stiffed every step of the way. You begin to ask yourself why bother ? I use to be the tough it out individual I still am to some extent. But sometimes it just isn't worth it. The first few times I go legit but then if I see no benefits out the grind I go short cutting through it. First time is to experience the offering after that it's getting it out the way as fast as possible with the every same reward outcome. I feel others feel the same way & that's why you see tons of cheese heads. I'm sure they also get it done legit in the first few times they enter the game. It's just why continue to grind for something you can get through a shortcut ? I don't go cheesing unless others have that in their plans to. Everybody has their own reasons. This is just mine at the moment.
