I haven't been able to beat Crota yet; not because we don't understand the mechanics, because I simply haven't been in a group that can do enough DPS to his shield to put him down quick enough that we can get two attack phases per sword.
The encounter's mechanics themselves are painfully easy to understand, the issue is the arbitrary time limit that simply makes the encounter impossible if you can't immediately drop his shields on every sword run.
The margin for error on Atheon even on hard was quite high, he'll you could have half your party die and still manage to kill him; Crota however has zero margin for error, and it's all because of his enrage.
With that said, I can understand people wanting to cheese Crota since he cheeses us after 7 minutes.

It doesn't take a high dps honestly you just use primary's and them one person needs rockets on run 2 easy shit

Edited by Arkiverge: 12/19/2014 2:56:12 PMIt's not that the group can't do enough DPS to his shield, it's that they're too cheap to use heavys (and the synth this encounter can demand). All it takes is two or three rockets (depending on what type they're using) and some sniper bullets and he's down in a few seconds. Same thing with the Swordbearer. If everyone is chipping away at him with their primary it's not going to work (this is sometimes feasible though for the second sword in each rotation since you usually have some extra time to kill the Swordbearer while Crota is on the right).

Well, yea, but your margin for error is sooo much smaller due to the extra sword rotations you need and from the risk the swordbearer takes from having to wait longer before the first (and if you're lucky) second attack. Tell your raid to stop being chinsy and just burn the synth. Groups don't kill him in only a few attempts because their weapons are better (granted, Gjallys do help). It's because they minimize the number of sword rotations they need by burning heavy which reduces the time of something stupid happening (ie. bad swordbearer timing, a d/c, a bad post-ogre transition, etc).

Your team may not have it perfected yet we run it with ease in 3 sword carries I'm not debating that heavy helps it definitely does it's just not a must have not for my team anyways Crota is pretty easy IMO
