September 9, 2006- Halo: The Ark is officially available online for everyone to read. There will be several websites hosting them, and each additional one will be added to this list here. The Ark is also in this thread, from pages 342-345. Feel free to read them and post in this thread. The cover/concept art is also available for anyone who wants to see it. Just follow these links: Cover art by JoeSlayer Back cover art by JoeSlayer Concept cover art by Dan Donahue Concept art by Paul Here is the list of websites hosting Halo: The Ark Game Spectrum Nov 17th, 2005- by now, there are 30 chapters of the book posted. if you dont want to look through this entire thread for them, click the link in my signature, it will take you to my official site, where all the chapters are posted. May 17, 2006- Work on the book has come to a halt as all editing (professional) has been done. There is work currently being done to get The Ark published, hopefully by TOR. Any questions about the book can be asked here, and i will answer them as promptly as possible. This is not an official bungie project. Click Here[ /url] to download a pdf version of it. Actually, right click and save, otherwise it won't work. The following material is the original post from way back when, so if you're looking for the more recent stuff (that has been modified from reading the beginning works), please visit my website, which is in my signature, or click the link above to download a pdf version of it. Please do not ask for the last chapters, as i will not send them to you. Any and all news will be posted whenever it comes up, and i will say so in the subject heading, with the appropriate page number and date. Chapters are generally posted weekly, though i discuss each chapter's release date beforehand so confusion does not ensue. If anyone knows anything about the Halo 2 book, or what comes after it, let me know. Cause if nothing's happening with it, im gonna write it. Here's the prelude to halo 3(?)... Prologue Ninth Age of Reclamation/First age of Rebirth Yielding Righteousness/ Current Flagship The doors opened as the Arbiter walked into the Grand Chamber, seeing rows of his brethren. His Sangheili. They all uniformly bowed down on one knee, their heads to facing the ground. The Arbiter turned to his Spec-ops captain, now the general of the armies, and said, “You never told me there would be this many.” “I thought you would like being surprised, Arbiter.” He showed a grin, at least as best a Sangheili could. They started walking through the main aisle, with an honor guard walking behind them as protection. The Arbiter felt that the presence of the honor guards was not necessary, but understood the honor they must feel to be here, especially now. Walking past each new row allowed all to stand in that row, which alerted the Arbiter of some discrepancy. He turned his head left, and saw several rows of Lekgolo, their massive bodies gracefully rising as he passed. And further ahead, even more rows were filled with the small Unggoy, who fidgeted even while trying to keep their composer. And they all were bowing. He looked back at the Lekgolo, shocked at the amount of them in one room. He had never seen so many, and they could easily overpower the entire ship if they wanted to, but they also didn’t carry their normal weaponry, which attached directly to their arms. The Arbiter forced himself to look away so not to draw attention to himself in any negative aspect, for it could ruin his purpose here today. They climbed the ramp up to the stage, where the honor guard behind them went to the right side of him, and to the left he saw another waiting for his arrival. The Arbiter went to the front of the stage, and the Captain/General stayed behind several steps. He looked upon the crowd, understanding that the future may rest upon their shoulders. The chamber had fallen dead silent now, and the Arbiter scanned the room once more. He stood tall and came to the very edge of the stage. “As you all know, I am the Arbiter. I have been chosen for this… this honor, by our previous leaders. However, there may be those among you who believe that their word is heresy, regardless of when it was said. And because of my rank, my position, I will become the leader of our group, our new covenant. If anyone disagrees with my appointment as the Arbiter, speak now.” The chamber stayed noiseless, but faces animated and expressions came to color. The Arbiter looked back to his Captain/General, who nodded to him. Suddenly, one Sangheili stepped out of his row, and yelled, “Long live the Arbiter!” As the Arbiter turned back to his audience, he found that he was deafened by the cheering of his name. A wave of relief struck him, and he held his hands to show silence was required. Moments later, it was so. “You all honor me with this privilege, yet I must postpone our celebration for another time. This meeting is one of urgency, where three important things must be discussed. The first of which being the creating of a new Grand Council. After this meeting, all not stationed upon the Yielding Righteousness are to return to their home planets to decide on the council members.” “Our next goal will be to secure as many Huragok as possible. They are a necessity on every ship, world, and army. If we can take many away from the Prophets, it will give us a strategic advantage against them. They will undoubtedly be attempting the same, but we cannot allow them to take any Huragok, or the upper hand will be theirs. Do not forget their usefulness, even in the heat of battle.” The Arbiter sighed, and looked up at the lights, then directly into the holocron monitor, which was projecting his face among countless worlds. “The final article is something that has come into my thoughts several times during these past few days, something I would like express to you. The Prophets have always asked each race to join the covenant, or even allow them honorable submission, but not the Humans. These Humans are a strange race, yet nothing about them is notable in any sense with the exception to the demon. Regardless, it makes no sense for the Prophets to ‘fear’ these Humans. But I understand why they do. I have fought and killed them, as well as fought beside them as allies.” Whispers appeared throughout the room, and the Arbiter raised his voice to overrun them. “Wait!”, he yelled, and the chamber’s only sound was the Arbiter’s echoing voice. “Through my experience with these Humans, they fight with the same honor we would, use clever tactics as we do, and will die for victory if necessary. And now that we are not at the prophet’s side to protect them, they have much to fear of the Humans!” Cheers wailed throughout the room, and a group of Unggoy began jumping up and clapping. The Arbiter allowed the crowd to settle down by themselves before speaking again. “From now on, if you should see a Jiralhanae, Yanme, Kig-yar, or a Prophet, you are to conquer them, and show them who truly is strong.” He smiled as best a Sangheili could. “Even more so for the Kig-yar, if you know what I mean.” Laughter broke out, especially through the rows of Unggoy. The Arbiter walked off the stage, followed closely by both honor guards and his Captain/General. Suddenly the laughter turned to applause, as the Unggoy yelled, and the Lekgolo and Sangheili bowed again to one knee. The Unggoy followed suit quickly. With each passed row, the rising covenant would chant “Long live the Arbiter!” The Captain/General whispered gently to the Arbiter as they walked down the aisle, “ It would seen that you left a good impression with the covenant.” “No, we are not the Covenant anymore. We are the Preeminent." If you guys like this, let me know, I have about 10 more pages written, in no partucular order, and can post them if anyone wants to read them. [Edited on 12/17/2006]

 • The story rocks, Brilliant. The first time I saw the story My eyes remained glued to the screen even after I had burned my TV Dinner. Talent is hard to find but in your case, keep up the good work.

 • I know Reach had 20 super MAC guns. They were Mark V MAC guns I think. Were they pretty much the same as the ones around Earth? If so, why didn't the Covenant just turn the ones around Earth into molten slag? In fall of Reach it only took one Plasma torpedo to get rid of a super MAC gun. And remember, whoever said if there were 300 MAC guns they would take care of the covie fleet easy, the covenant only attacked in a certain spot. Above New Mombassa. Is that because they were searching for a particular something?......?

 • look, it doesn't matter how slow the super mac guns could move, if there were even 100 on one side, or even 50, that would be 50 ships dead for each hit, especially since they are probably fired by ai's who calculate the trajectory, velocity, etc perfectly. btw, if you think about it, there would probably be more guns on one side than another because in order to jump from another place to earth, as far as the halo universe is concerned, is in one direction away/towards earth. and of course Reach had more guns: it was their military planet, and it needed more protection than they ever thought earth would.

 • I agree with you Brilliant, Reach would have more because it was there main military base, what you said makes sense. [Edited on 2/23/2005 1:01:45 PM]

Then when the MC leaves thats all we will see of him till after H2 book. Brilliant is writing whats during H2 and after it from the other spartans point of view. Then MC came back to earth and we are now folllowing him and the spartans has they are hunting down the Prophet on Earth.

Here are my arguments. -I at least know there were more than three. In the first level, if you look out the window after the Malta explodes, you can see other clusters, at least proving there are more than three. -The Sarge refers to the "orbital defense grid," implying that there is a grid around Earth. I can only assume that means more guns. I just think the Cairo happens to be the flagship, of sorts. -Finally, what would 3 guns be able to do against any kind of signifigant fleet? Nothing. Also, what if the Covies had jumped to Earth on the other side of the planet? We would have to wait 12 hours just for the Earth's rotation to get us into firing position. The fact that a Covie ship got through is only because it destoryed two of the three MACs designated to that sector, meaning the other ones could only watch as they were out of range. Yeah so those are my arguments...

 • well if one mac can take out one ship then we wouldnt have a problem, there was like one hunded at earth and if we had that many mac guns then we would win the war easily

 • Sgt.J says "When I shipped out for Basis, these Mac guns were all politics etc..." "Now look, The Cairo is just 1 of 300 geosynch platforms etc.." I forget the exact wording but you get the jist of it. There probably are more MAC guns, ALOT more, but what I dont get is if such a small fleet came to Earth, Then why is it when Master Chief gets back from Delta Halo, Fighting is still going on? Did the covenant ask for reinforcements? I dont know.

 • you know what? you people who are arguing with me about this should stop. prowlaz already stated that there's no proof for either of us, and he's right. he believes that there are 300 super mac guns orbiting earth, and i think there are only 3. for the last time, geosync doesn't mean that there are 300 mac guns, but that there are 300 stations orbiting earth. i don't think there should be, and he does. MATTER OF OPPINION.

 • No need to take offense, sir. You stated your opinion, I stated mine. Just some constructive criticism. For the guy who said we would win the war easily with 100 super-MAC guns, they aren't offensive weapons, so it wouldn't make much of a difference. I think the fact that I'm debating earth's orbital defense 500 years from now means I need to step back and seriously examine my life :)

 • lol, if we are gonna say what should be, then yes, we should have hundreds of them. -blam!-, we should have real weapons, not smg's and battle rifles. where are the futuristic weapons? i want to see some crazy nuke gun, or an atom smasher gun, or something that deep fries elites. but we don't have those things in halo2, so lets not go crazy about it. btw eagles5, you're absolutely right

 • haha, but the if this were really to happen the USA can take care of its self, well you guys made a good point and all about the MAC guns, i do think there is alot, but not 300. oh and about the futuristic weapons, well i think the world would go into a nucular war,( that might happen with the U.S. and N. korea)

If you look 500 years into the past, with shakespeare and whatnot, we obviously talk nothing like that! • well ou didnt expect it to be like star wars? now if that was our future, just blow us all up now and get it over with, but it kinda makes sense, if we made nuke machine guns or something then one guy takes over the world.........or whats left of it. it makes you wonder

 • geosync means that the platform hovers over the same point on the earth, so logicaly, the ciro is most likly over the city of ciro. second, a mac gun is a very powerful concept, it fires a solid round VERY FAST, as of now the power consumption is too great to be used at all third, the battle wouldn't be over instanly because if the target ship is at the far end of the weapons range than the ship could move out of the way of the round. fourth, nukes cause EMPs, EMPs destroy electrical equiptment, remember in book 1 keyes couldn't fire a nuke to destroy the nav computer on the small staion because it would knock out mac guns fifth, i want to see some perspective of the sarge

 • that is all true, but if you think about it, the range is forever. especially in space, where there is no friction. when they say that something has a certain range in space, it means that the projectile being fired (in this case, a huge ass ball of depleted uranium) will continue to go in a straight line until it hits something. the range for it would have to mean the determinable probability of whether the target will be able to move out of the way before having a hole put into it. With this in mind, the covenant wouldn't be able to know the range of it, because they wouldn't know its speed. btw, they could use nukes in space as long as the emp blast radius wouldn't effect them. think of it this way. a minefield could be laid where the covenant are believed to be coming from, that is far enough away from any UNSC forces to feel the emp, and the covenant would be screwed. EDIT: and just to let you guys know, in my story, it doesn't really matter whether or not there are 300 super mac guns, if they use nukes or not, or any of that crap. you'll see the purpose behind everything soon enough. • I was playing the first level of Halo 2 after we were talking about how many mac guns there were around earth and i found out that there are lots of them and like some one said earlier they are in groups of three. I am pretty sure when Sarge said there were 300 what ever platforms around earth he was refering to the mac guns. I know if i was getting attacked by aliens and they were wiping out the human race I would have a -blam!- load of mac guns around my home planet. Even if they did have all those mac guns it wouldn't necessarily mean we would win because the covenant could do what they did to the Athens and Malta, send boarding parties to destroy the mac guns.

AND on the mac guns thing. i belive their aree moree than three. i belive threre are somewhat about 20-40 because they all cover diffrent sectors of earth. Why would they put their only THREE MAC HUNS IN THE SAME SPOT!!!!?? That would be sucidal. altough if they only have three than the ywould need to move the mtoo where the most humans are. which i'm guessing would be well......its not clear where that would be. But i belive ther eare eat least 20.

 • Believe it or not, magnetic accelerator guns exist today. Alright, they're not magnetic accelerator CANNONS, but they still exist. As for stuff like "gravity guns", if we haven't mastered plasma, we definately don't have those. Mini nukes are possible though. Also, I want an automatic shotgun. We use pumps in games for several reasons. #1 They are lighter in real life. #2 They are less likely to foul during use. #3 The sound of a pump shotgun is associated with something getting destroyed. Autos are more useful in a sense, especially in the future considering we have lighter metal alternatives. Automatic Shotguns. Not semi-auto, like my Remington. Full auto. We need them.
