May 17, 2006- Work on the book has come to a halt as all editing (professional) has been done. There is work currently being done to get The Ark published, hopefully by TOR. Any questions about the book can be asked here, and i will answer them as promptly as possible. This is not an official bungie project. Click [url=http://www.archive.org/download/The_Ark/theark.pdf]Here[ /url] to download a pdf version of it. Actually, right click and save, otherwise it won't work. The following material is the original post from way back when, so if you're looking for the more recent stuff (that has been modified from reading the beginning works), please visit my website, which is in my signature, or click the link above to download a pdf version of it. Please do not ask for the last chapters, as i will not send them to you. Any and all news will be posted whenever it comes up, and i will say so in the subject heading, with the appropriate page number and date. Chapters are generally posted weekly, though i discuss each chapter's release date beforehand so confusion does not ensue. If anyone knows anything about the Halo 2 book, or what comes after it, let me know. Cause if nothing's happening with it, im gonna write it. Here's the prelude to halo 3(?)... Prologue Ninth Age of Reclamation/First age of Rebirth Yielding Righteousness/ Current Flagship The doors opened as the Arbiter walked into the Grand Chamber, seeing rows of his brethren. His Sangheili. They all uniformly bowed down on one knee, their heads to facing the ground. The Arbiter turned to his Spec-ops captain, now the general of the armies, and said, “You never told me there would be this many.” “I thought you would like being surprised, Arbiter.” He showed a grin, at least as best a Sangheili could. They started walking through the main aisle, with an honor guard walking behind them as protection. The Arbiter felt that the presence of the honor guards was not necessary, but understood the honor they must feel to be here, especially now. Walking past each new row allowed all to stand in that row, which alerted the Arbiter of some discrepancy. He turned his head left, and saw several rows of Lekgolo, their massive bodies gracefully rising as he passed. And further ahead, even more rows were filled with the small Unggoy, who fidgeted even while trying to keep their composer. And they all were bowing. He looked back at the Lekgolo, shocked at the amount of them in one room. He had never seen so many, and they could easily overpower the entire ship if they wanted to, but they also didn’t carry their normal weaponry, which attached directly to their arms. The Arbiter forced himself to look away so not to draw attention to himself in any negative aspect, for it could ruin his purpose here today. They climbed the ramp up to the stage, where the honor guard behind them went to the right side of him, and to the left he saw another waiting for his arrival. The Arbiter went to the front of the stage, and the Captain/General stayed behind several steps. He looked upon the crowd, understanding that the future may rest upon their shoulders. The chamber had fallen dead silent now, and the Arbiter scanned the room once more. He stood tall and came to the very edge of the stage. “As you all know, I am the Arbiter. I have been chosen for this… this honor, by our previous leaders. However, there may be those among you who believe that their word is heresy, regardless of when it was said. And because of my rank, my position, I will become the leader of our group, our new covenant. If anyone disagrees with my appointment as the Arbiter, speak now.” The chamber stayed noiseless, but faces animated and expressions came to color. The Arbiter looked back to his Captain/General, who nodded to him. Suddenly, one Sangheili stepped out of his row, and yelled, “Long live the Arbiter!” As the Arbiter turned back to his audience, he found that he was deafened by the cheering of his name. A wave of relief struck him, and he held his hands to show silence was required. Moments later, it was so. “You all honor me with this privilege, yet I must postpone our celebration for another time. This meeting is one of urgency, where three important things must be discussed. The first of which being the creating of a new Grand Council. After this meeting, all not stationed upon the Yielding Righteousness are to return to their home planets to decide on the council members.” “Our next goal will be to secure as many Huragok as possible. They are a necessity on every ship, world, and army. If we can take many away from the Prophets, it will give us a strategic advantage against them. They will undoubtedly be attempting the same, but we cannot allow them to take any Huragok, or the upper hand will be theirs. Do not forget their usefulness, even in the heat of battle.” The Arbiter sighed, and looked up at the lights, then directly into the holocron monitor, which was projecting his face among countless worlds. “The final article is something that has come into my thoughts several times during these past few days, something I would like express to you. The Prophets have always asked each race to join the covenant, or even allow them honorable submission, but not the Humans. These Humans are a strange race, yet nothing about them is notable in any sense with the exception to the demon. Regardless, it makes no sense for the Prophets to ‘fear’ these Humans. But I understand why they do. I have fought and killed them, as well as fought beside them as allies.” Whispers appeared throughout the room, and the Arbiter raised his voice to overrun them. “Wait!”, he yelled, and the chamber’s only sound was the Arbiter’s echoing voice. “Through my experience with these Humans, they fight with the same honor we would, use clever tactics as we do, and will die for victory if necessary. And now that we are not at the prophet’s side to protect them, they have much to fear of the Humans!” Cheers wailed throughout the room, and a group of Unggoy began jumping up and clapping. The Arbiter allowed the crowd to settle down by themselves before speaking again. “From now on, if you should see a Jiralhanae, Yanme, Kig-yar, or a Prophet, you are to conquer them, and show them who truly is strong.” He smiled as best a Sangheili could. “Even more so for the Kig-yar, if you know what I mean.” Laughter broke out, especially through the rows of Unggoy. The Arbiter walked off the stage, followed closely by both honor guards and his Captain/General. Suddenly the laughter turned to applause, as the Unggoy yelled, and the Lekgolo and Sangheili bowed again to one knee. The Unggoy followed suit quickly. With each passed row, the rising covenant would chant “Long live the Arbiter!” The Captain/General whispered gently to the Arbiter as they walked down the aisle, “ It would seen that you left a good impression with the covenant.” “No, we are not the Covenant anymore. We are the Preeminent." If you guys like this, let me know, I have about 10 more pages written, in no partucular order, and can post them if anyone wants to read them. [Edited on 12/17/2006]

  • Nice Chapter Sir B. The Preeminent seems a little to human though but a nice addition to all the cahpters thus far. I like the new site much easier on the eyes. Is your name really James Pikover or is that the person that did the cover? I like the hald tread idea, and no more crystals is good. Also where is Eagle, I haven't seen any posts from him in a while. And anyone who assumes that the Prophet of Truth is still alive do you know something about The Ark Sequel that I don't? • John motioned to Linda to check the adjacent hallway for more Jackals while he and the rest prepared to move out. One of the Elite’s had a map of the ship they were in, and would direct them to the bridge. It took point and James tapped Linda’s back, where she gave the all clear. The ship was exactly like any other Covenant vessel, which was eerie to John. Even though the Covenant and the Preeminent were now in war, they used the exact same technology, same weaponry (to a certain extent), and same tactics. It was a war that depended more on numbers and strength than military prowess and technological advancement. It was an odd thing. The Elite, a black-armored special operations Elite, led them through the ship. They passed groups of Jackal, all who were not paying attention, as well as a swarm of Drones. Then one of the Grunts tripped and dropped his plasma pistol, which hit the ground hard. Doors opened and four Jackals rushed out and held their shields up and opened fire. There was no cover and the attack was so sudden that the Grunts were too shocked to fire back. Every Elite and Spartan fired, but the shots just connected to their shields, while the Jackals mowed down the Grunts and took down the Elite’s shields. One Elite threw a grenade, but it hit one of the Jackals shields and bounced back on the Elite, who Linda threw back at the Jackals. They tried to scatter but there was no room to maneuver, and the Elite blew up its targets. Alarms went off and doors started locking all around them. John picked up one of the Jackal’s shields and disabled it. “Cortana, we need an exit.” “One second chief…” Cortana had been annoying him like this, being so preoccupied with other things when both his life and the life of his team was in danger. He didn’t like it, but there was no time to deal with it now. “Cortana…” “Done. Activate the panel to your left, and the door will open. Every other door has Brutes heading towards it, so this will be the safest route.” “Acknowledged.” He activated the console and the doors opened. “Activate camouflage; we don’t need any more contact until we reach the bridge. Maintain radio silence.” “Sir,” the black-armored Elite said, “if they are in close enough proximity, we will be spotted with their instruments.” “Noted. Do so anyways, then lead the way.” The Elite nodded and they headed out of the room. They moved faster now that the Grunts were gone, although John didn’t think it was better. He would remember next time to not include them on such missions, as they’re usefulness was limited on such excursions. Reaching a doorway, the Elite stopped and put his back to the wall. The rest followed suit, and the Elite knocked on it gently twice in the middle of the wall, then once higher up. They were a floor below the bridge. The Elite craned his neck into the next walkway and in front of the bridge’s elevator shaft, and a Brute walked right into its head. The two Brutes immediately turned the corner and opened fire with their plasma rifles, both specially made for Brutes and fired red superheated plasma. It struck their shields and disengaged their camouflage, and the Spartans quickly jumped to action. Linda fired a sniper shot straight into one’s head, the .70 caliber bullet going straight through the helmet and into the head of the Brute. James fired his SMG into the other’s belly, pumping it full of lead. John fired at its head with his SB73 and the first shot knocked off its helmet. It was too stunned by James’ fire to move away, and the second shot placed a bullet into its eye. “They knew we’re here! Everyone on the elevator!” The team rushed in and the elevator started going up slowly. James reloaded his gun and everyone else was dead quiet. Linda went to the back and hoisted her sniper rifle, aiming directly at the door while the rest crouched right by it. When they slid open, Linda fired one shot, and the rest ran in and opened fire on everything they saw. A Brute captain sat in the middle of the bridge and was immediately taken out by Linda, and the rest of the Brutes started beserking. Several Drones in the room scampered off their consoles, but Linda dropped them before they could attack. One of the Brutes jumped on top of one Elite and started beating its face vehemently, and James punched it hard in the ribs, making it scream in pain, then shot it in the face. John had two Brutes attack him, and he shot one before it could reach him and the other tripped over the dead one’s body. The gold armored Elite quickly activated its energy sword and plunged it into the heart of the Brute, and twisted it to make sure. “Seal the bridge and pump the atmosphere or the ship!” The two Elite’s sat at the consoles and typed furiously. John sat on the captain’s seat and did his best to relax. “Cortana, take control of the weapons and activate your enhancement program. Then open fire and engage in evasive maneuvers, and link a map of the interior directing us to the landing bay.” “Working on it…” Cortana was not herself, and John was getting very worried now, but a banging on the bridge door shifted his focus. He saw the metal bend slightly, giving way to the powerful assault, but it started to weaken, and stopped only moments later. “Atmosphere completely vented. Shields are at 100%...we have not been attacked yet. Reading 30% of Seraph fighters still docked in the fighter bay.” “Fine, pump the atmosphere back so we can get out of here. Cortana, make use of those Seraph’s. What’s the status of the battle?” “Reading ten Covenant and two Preeminent vessels destroyed. Now the battle is even.” “Excellent!” The Spartans rejoiced, and Cortana opened fire with their new ship’s weapons, and took down the shields of another Covenant vessel. “Sir, slipspace ruptures detected. They are leaving the battle. Transmission coming through, from the Arbiter.” “Put it through.” The Arbiter’s holographic image took over the viewscreen just as the Covenant vessels left the system. “Excellent work. Without that vessel you captured, the battle may have ended less fortunately for us. I am sending a skeleton crew over to replace you so you may return to the Yielding Righteousness.” “Understood. Good work people…we just won the Preeminent’s first victory over the Covenant.”

  • Alright, here it is. Just before i go online. Sequel to The Ark: First chapter No date or time…yet Aboard Yielding Righteousness Three Spartans sat in the temple of the Yielding Righteousness, the Preeminent flagship. The Arbiter sat with them, humbly guiding them through a meditation practice that he had learnt as a young child. The three had been in a trance for the last hour, and he was shocked by their intense focus and affinity towards the practice. He himself had been sitting cross-legged with both hands palm up on his lap, and chanted quietly several sounds that were made millennia ago for the purpose of finding oneself. Although he had never found much use for it, he felt it might have been beneficial for these great warriors, now struggling without war. Time seemed to pass immensely fast, contradictory to how normal meditation occurred. Normally, the process itself felt slow, either because of the lack of ability or sharpening of the senses, both of which were only a trickery of the mind. However, time dissipated in this case, and it was a pleasant surprise. They all sat with their eyes closed when suddenly the temple doors were thrown open. The ancient style doors hit the walls they were attached to and a Sangheili minor ran through them. He quickly fell to his knees and bowed to the Arbiter, who stood up quickly and was immediately battle ready. “Report.” “Covenant vessels have entered the region and will be within firing range soon. We are greatly outnumbered, and your presence on the bridge is requested by the captain.” A grave look appeared on the Arbiter’s face, and he didn’t need any time to think of it. “Very well, I am on my way.” He turned to the Spartans and saw that they too were out of their meditative state and prepared for action. “Please, accompany me to the bridge.” “Of course,” said the Master Chief. He spoke for the Spartans, who obediently followed his orders. As their leader, it was only natural to do so, although it never ceased to amaze the Arbiter how alike these Spartans were with his own Sangheili brethren. The bridge was not far, and they took an elevator directly to it. The doors slid open and the captain stood from his command seat, and the Arbiter nodded and sat in it. “How many are there?” The Sangheili at the helm continued typing commands into his console as he answered the Arbiter. “Registering twenty Covenant vessels…five capital ships, ten heavy cruisers and five light cruisers.” Their numbers are trice that of our own. “Scanners show that they are all at optimal efficiency and prepared to engage as soon as they reach firing range.” “And our vessels?” “We are greatly outnumbered, but our vessels are also in perfect condition.” “Power slipspace drives and prepare for jump. This battle cannot be won.” “Sir,” the tactical officer standing behind him said, “there is a dampening field surrounding the area, which is cutting our ability to jump into slipspace.” “What is the source?” “Scanners indicate that it stems from the Covenant vessels.” “Understood.” The Arbiter crossed his arms. “Activate all weapons generators and prepare to fire all volleys as soon as the enemy is within range.” The Arbiter turned the seat towards his captain and the Spartans. “Suggestions?” The Master Chief stepped forward. “We can infiltrate one of their vessels and attempt a hostile takeover. During our attack its mobility and attack will be limited, and you will have fewer targets to deal with, and when the ship is in our control, Cortana can pilot it to attack the other vessels. We can do this as many times as necessary.” “Yes, just as we did with your Human vessel, the Black Star. It may grant us some time, but I don’t know that it will be enough.” Cortana’s voice suddenly flooded the room gently as she spoke through the bridge’s speakers. “I heard someone mention my name…” She sounded preoccupied, as though the matter at hand was not extremely important. The Arbiter disregarded her attitude, thinking nothing of the emotions of a computer intelligence. “Oh, I see. Why don’t we just boost the intensity of your weapons just as we did with the Ascendant Justice?” Everyone in the room glanced at each other strangely, and the idea exploded everyone’s previous thoughts. John opened a private channel to Cortana. “How soon could you calibrate all of the Preeminent ships to fire that way?” “Just a few seconds. I’ve already got the program set…I just need to start it up on each ship individually, which shouldn’t be difficult at all.” “Do it.” The Arbiter looked at John puzzled, wondering why he had suddenly become so quiet. “Cortana can make your weapons much more potent, although I highly doubt that the crew’s will be able to maneuver the firing of the weapons themselves. Cortana could do it though, and you could instruct her on which targets to attack.” The Arbiter simply smiled. “Yes, make it so. And you should go and take over another vessel. Even with the additional firepower we may not be successful with our current armaments. Another ship, however, can turn the tide of this battle.” “Understood. We’ll depart immediately.” The Spartans walked out of the bridge and back onto the elevator, and the doors closed behind them. Looking back at the viewscreen, the Arbiter gave out commands. “Assign three fighter units to provide cover for the Spartan’s boarding craft. Make sure nothing can touch it. Raise shields and prepare for engagement. Cortana, when will the weapons be ready to fire?” “One second…there, it’s done. Fire when ready. And the firing range has also increased between fifty to seventy-five percent, so all targets should be within range.” “Excellent. Open fire on the nearest vessel.” ------------------------------------------------------- John generally didn’t like doing the missions that required him to be in such a weakened state like this one, but there was little choice. He was useless on the bridge, especially with a tactical genius like the Arbiter in command. His usefulness would come from making sure that if the battle was too close for comfort, he and his Spartans would change that. They entered the boarding craft in record time, and a small squad of Elite’s and Grunt’s accompanied them. It was strange to be fighting alongside former enemies as they soon would, but it could not be helped. Only a few months ago John, along with any human being, would have fired their weapon instantly at the site of an Elite, or any other Covenant warrior for that matter. But now he had a specific group of races to fight against, those now known as the Covenant. Not the Preeminent. He was glad though about whom he was fighting against. The Elites were generally a very honorable and moral race, spiritual in nature and strong in action. They were, as best as he could describe, destined for greatness. The Grunts were a quirky species, and being the brunt force of the Covenant has made them stronger than they ever dreamed possible. John had a suspicion that even the Grunts didn’t know it for certain, although they would find out in time. Lastly were the Hunters, the largest and strongest of all the Covenant species. They were also the most mysterious. Little was known about their culture, beliefs, or anything else really. But in the end, John decided that all three were a perfect group for each other, where each one would benefit from the other and soon grow into something greater. Hopefully, when humanity rebuilds itself, they may be a part of their group. The boarding craft was dead quiet now, with only the sound of Grunt’s scratching themselves or tinkering with their weapons. The ship shook briefly, then came to a complete stop. The Elite’s in the boarding craft all stood up and prepared for battle, raising their weapons towards the opening that was being carved out. The Spartans also readied their weapons, but they gave off satisfying clicks from the mechanical workings of the human weapons. A hole suddenly formed in the bulkhead of the heavy cruiser they attacked and John jumped out, and plasma rained down on him. He rolled out of the way and found a crate for cover. A pair of Jackals were present in the room, and had apparently been expecting them. John expected more of a welcome party. James came out of the boarding craft next and tossed a grenade at the two, who scattered. John took his opportunity and took out the Jackals while they didn’t pay attention to their shield placement, which left them wide open to attack. The rest of the boarding craft’s occupants came out, two at a time after Linda.
