I got mine today from killing Blades on the Earth Patrol. They show up around every 2 min near the Patrol Spawn point, which seemed quicker to me than doing the Fist of Crota. I didn't notice a loot notification, I just noticed I had a common weapon in my inventory.

Taking into account load time, the Fist of Crota method will give you a Blade kill at least once a minute. Plus, I've gone upwards of five minutes without seeing a blade spawn in the starting area, so I'm pretty sure it's just luck. First day I had them spawning left and right, but now that I want to kill them, they don't turn up.
