On the EXOTIC RESET (The Ultimate W.T.F moment we've been waiting for)

This is intended to be an open letter towards both players and devs, although the likelihood of it being taken under consideration is abysmally low. First and foremost, let me state that I've been playing DESTINY since day-one, pre-ordered the Ghost Edition and allowed myself a bit of time in its world almost every day since release. I've been a supporter of what Bungie has supposedly been trying to do with their new ip, giving it time and considering the flaws in a mild, understanding and mostly academic way: All MMOish games start weak and those that are worthwhile shine down the road. Suffice to say, I've been looking forwards to the Expansion like a child awaiting Christmas. I've lost count of how many times I've watch the trailer - complete with its very own unimaginative portraition of Crota as yet another larger generic Knight - and was delighted with the changes made in the last patch (Dec 1). That is to say, I did not realize right away why something THAT good and logical would happen to a game rooted in the idea of "hours per day/ per people playing/ per Activision stocks in various markets". The deal, it seems, was to sweeten us. They gave us a FINALLY viable way of amassing the moronic amounts of materials required to upgrade Exotic and Legendary gear so we would be less enraged when the new, MAGNIFICENT idea came around. And oh boy, was that a big turd in the face of the dedicated users! I quote the patch notes: "Upgrading an Exotic in this way will require an Exotic Shard. (That alone will cost 7K. That is about 35% of the amount you can have at any given time. Then, it's farmathon again) The upgrade will reset the progression invested into the item. ("Invested" is the word used. What a -blam!-ing joke) Each week, Xûr will possess a selection of upgrades for existing Exotics in his inventory." (Like he's been so trustworthy so far, selling Sunbreakers every other week along with those blasted Voidfangs) ... ... ... Are you people out of you GODDAMN MINDS!?! We have been running around doing stupid, repetitive bounties over and over again just to feed the gear and weapons enough XP to lvl, we've been farming for freakin' HUNDRENDS of hours for the blasted Destination Materials, we've been spending a TON of glimmer per each upgrade, we've poured THREE BLASTED MONTHS of our live's free time just to have a bloody game reset? Specific weapon will be available for upgrade WHEN Xur decides to bring about each of those blasted upgrades?! What about all the people who need the Exotic gear to get to 30? They will have to drop 2-3 lvls and start refarming all that crap! Do you think that the user base exists just to feed the -blam!-ing "hours per day" numbers? THAT'S the respect you show to the people who pay you for your product? THAT's the grant design choice? WHERE THE -blam!- DID BUNGIE GO?! I am pissed out of my mind people. I can't believe how hideously money-driven this whole thing is. And if you are naive in some way and don't understand what "money" has to do with all this, consider how important it is for the companies involved to have active, paying people in the game. More hours of pointless farming, more people online. If you want this mess to make ANY sense devs, you either give us back the materials invested, coupled with telemetries to speed up these processes or require, AT LEAST, that for any weapon to be upped it will first have to be maxed. Of course the ideal situation would be for the upgrading to go on from the current state of the gear but we couldn't have that now, could we? First way will ensure that the people who invested the time are not being awfully crapped upon (you know, the time of our lives that we could have spent playing something else or doing gardening will not be totally wasted?) whilst the second will actually even the playing field for people who will be getting the older Exotics down the way. Do I need to point out that the second idea is still shit but at least it's somewhat fair? No? Great. And PLEASE, don't give me the "it's all optional" bs line. If not upped, those hard-earned pieces of gear will be obsolete. We are forced, either to upgrade them or to ditch them altogether. I don't even know what to think anymore. The game's situation is getting messier by the day. Where did the company behind Halo go? Where did RESPECT for the players go? Do you think that by showing us photos of workspaces and adress us like ol' pals you are actually befriending us when THIS stuff hits the servers? You went in bed with the freaking devil guys, I am very sorry to say. All that matters, and it is plain as day at this point, is how many playhours the clock registers, how many people cope with all the crap that's been happening, how many "rationalize" all the RNG bs that's in place ONLY to impede progress. I have a TON of stuff to mention here but I will stay on topic. You spit on us, Bungie. You spit on our dedication, on our hard-earned money, on our -blam!-ing TIME. I'm at the edge of my patience here. I hope I am not alone. EDIT: Seems like I'm NOT freaking alone. Thank you guys. Here are a few more threads, let's spread awareness about all this bs and see if Bungie is "listening loud and clear" as they claim to. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82061069/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82305663/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82089048/0/0 WNxChadzors wrote: "Here's an idea? Honestly I think the whole light leveling us up is stupid, I honestly think it's just a way for them to make us grind longer. You want to make it difficult to get this gear then how about a campaign that is actually difficult and well thought out, get rid of the whole light and keep the xp have a cap on the combat level if you want and the gear rated at certain cb levels. I have never played a game till now that the armor actually increased your cb level, armor and weapons have perks and bonuses but should have nothing to do with leveling up. They can reset the armor by bringing out new armor, guess we learned that huh. I have only been playing a month so I feel for all of you who have been playing since day one, personally I was expecting more of a campaign myself but guess that isn't the case. Anyhow I was under the impression there would be NEW gear, rather than this - well I suppose they believe this will keep everyone grinding awhile longer. They are definitely testing the breaking point of players, how far can they push us before we say that's enough and quit. The sad truth is they are only hurting themselves, and they are working on Destiny 2 while Destiny is failing on so many levels!!! Let's face it other than the mechanics, graphics and decent music what is Destiny? We kill either hive, vex, cabal, fallen or each other for gear to go back and kill more hive, vex cabal, fallen and each other. That's the game in a nutshell. Everything else was gutted out from launch, their lead writer up and quit which is evident by the lack of absolutely no story whatsoever. To me this feels like a beta game, it has so many loop holes, glitches, error codes, poorly thought out patrol missions, no story, a wacked out combat system, and other than pulverizing each other into the dirt for crucible marks or bashing fallen into the ground for vanguard marks - what else is there? Cool armor and weapons with perks and bonuses that they can tweak at a moments notice. Why I was so hesitant to buy this game initially, because it is exclusively online and I have already dealt with the bs of online games where they are constantly messing with gear and cb. Anyhow I think they are hoping that the tedious grind ( not to say the more difficult grinding like VoG is an easy task for just any player)will bring new players to the table who aren't as picky as we are, however as the VoG isn't exactly easy - maybe they figure with fire teams it will be enough to sustain the players who won't question what they do. Personally for myself I don't do the crucible, but I am gearing up for VoG, try and give myself as much of an edge as possible before heading in there.

      • So how much better is 302? A maxed upgrade now is 300 right? And a new one starts at 302 and then maxed at 330? Is this what's happening? That's fine as long as we get all the -blam!-ing spin metal and relic iron and all that shit back too. Otherwise they are totally -blam!-ing us.

      • If my calculations are correct, you'd be stupid to "upgrade your weapon" rather than just buy it after the expansion goes live. Here's my logic: To upgrade your current wep: - pay 7k glimmer - one exotic shard - Then you level it up which costs more glimmer - then you pay one more exotic shard to finalize it. In short, 2 exotic shards and 7000+ glimmer. The alternative: - You buy your weapon for however many strange coins it's worth (18-23) - You level it up which costs glimmer - You spend an exotic shard to finalize it. In short, 1 exotic shard and 2000ish? Glimmer MAX! See my point?

i am thinking of my (now gone but not forgotten) acophage symbiote hunter helmet exotic. 1) i could leave it like it is (tier1) and it would still have the 4 shot golden gun perk and the other perks since it is fully upgraded already 2) i could chase/buy another (tier2) and work to upgrade it which would require swapping it out before turning in bounties but that is not so bad as i usually do that anyway with weapons. i keep my 4 shot perk (and the other perks) in the wild with the old helmet equipped. 3) i could turn in the one i have plus the exotic shards and have it reset and lose my 4-shot perk (and the other perks) for better numbers, then grind to upgrade it. hmmmm...i guess the answer is #2. chase a new (tier2) one, vault it then swap it out before turning in bounties, keeping my perks for the wild. the only difference is the higher number on the new one versus the old one and probably a light level. once i get it it upgraded enough i vault the old one to shard for later and equip the new one. simple. go with the flow and work the system. edit: levelling it by bounties and not xp in the wild from kills? would that even work? it works for guns

          • Not alone. Me and a few others have some theories about this being a social experiment to see how much crap customers are willing to take, and this change almost confirms it for us.

            • Its fine giving new players these oppuntunitys. But we all know people and can recommend/not recommend greatly their game. If this continues i may as well wait for the final DLC of destiny 4 and be on the same level as everyone else. Playtime needs to be rewarded in these games. Why not pay 1 or 2 shards to upgrade your item and be done. This is logic.

Time to douse the fire. This wasn't that clear in yesterday's Dev post and even I missed it. but let me try and calm everyone down. The upgrade will reset exp, however the weapon will already be stronger after that. If you check the weekly update Dev post there's a picture of thorn after getting upgraded. You'll see its exp is reset, but now it's starting attack power is 302. The downside is you have to reacquire the special abilities which isn't too bad for some weapons like ice breaker, but a bigger blow for others like gjallahorn.

                  • Just to add my 2 cents worth, Whatever level of progression you turn a weapon in at should be the same, (as close as possible) as what you get back, minus the new damage upgrade. So, my maxed out Gjallahorn + 7000 glimmer + 1 exotic shard = Gjallahorn Mk2, with all the upgrades except for the new nodes for damage and, an brand new Gjallahorn, no uppgrade + 7K glimmer + exotic chard = brand new Gjallahorn Mk2 this was you pay for what you get. If you've upgrade you cant really complain, if you have a fresh weapon you cant complain

                    • I think I'd like to see exotic upgrades drop in nightfalls/raids and have them useable on whichever exotic you want. Still requiring to relevel the weapon possibly...or just have it open up a new level of upgrades for the guns.

                      • What they should do is let Maxed Exotics upgrade for free + give you back your Shard. I have an unleveled Invective. Why punish a guy with a maxed Invective by making him pay the exact same price and Shard I do to get a weapon with the same base damage? It would benefit me and screw him over.

I need them to have some upgrades or bonuses for the universal remote, because its my only exotic weapon and everybody says that it sucks but it's pretty good it just needs to get better like in range
