On the EXOTIC RESET (The Ultimate W.T.F moment we've been waiting for)

This is intended to be an open letter towards both players and devs, although the likelihood of it being taken under consideration is abysmally low. First and foremost, let me state that I've been playing DESTINY since day-one, pre-ordered the Ghost Edition and allowed myself a bit of time in its world almost every day since release. I've been a supporter of what Bungie has supposedly been trying to do with their new ip, giving it time and considering the flaws in a mild, understanding and mostly academic way: All MMOish games start weak and those that are worthwhile shine down the road. Suffice to say, I've been looking forwards to the Expansion like a child awaiting Christmas. I've lost count of how many times I've watch the trailer - complete with its very own unimaginative portraition of Crota as yet another larger generic Knight - and was delighted with the changes made in the last patch (Dec 1). That is to say, I did not realize right away why something THAT good and logical would happen to a game rooted in the idea of "hours per day/ per people playing/ per Activision stocks in various markets". The deal, it seems, was to sweeten us. They gave us a FINALLY viable way of amassing the moronic amounts of materials required to upgrade Exotic and Legendary gear so we would be less enraged when the new, MAGNIFICENT idea came around. And oh boy, was that a big turd in the face of the dedicated users! I quote the patch notes: "Upgrading an Exotic in this way will require an Exotic Shard. (That alone will cost 7K. That is about 35% of the amount you can have at any given time. Then, it's farmathon again) The upgrade will reset the progression invested into the item. ("Invested" is the word used. What a -blam!-ing joke) Each week, Xûr will possess a selection of upgrades for existing Exotics in his inventory." (Like he's been so trustworthy so far, selling Sunbreakers every other week along with those blasted Voidfangs) ... ... ... Are you people out of you GODDAMN MINDS!?! We have been running around doing stupid, repetitive bounties over and over again just to feed the gear and weapons enough XP to lvl, we've been farming for freakin' HUNDRENDS of hours for the blasted Destination Materials, we've been spending a TON of glimmer per each upgrade, we've poured THREE BLASTED MONTHS of our live's free time just to have a bloody game reset? Specific weapon will be available for upgrade WHEN Xur decides to bring about each of those blasted upgrades?! What about all the people who need the Exotic gear to get to 30? They will have to drop 2-3 lvls and start refarming all that crap! Do you think that the user base exists just to feed the -blam!-ing "hours per day" numbers? THAT'S the respect you show to the people who pay you for your product? THAT's the grant design choice? WHERE THE -blam!- DID BUNGIE GO?! I am pissed out of my mind people. I can't believe how hideously money-driven this whole thing is. And if you are naive in some way and don't understand what "money" has to do with all this, consider how important it is for the companies involved to have active, paying people in the game. More hours of pointless farming, more people online. If you want this mess to make ANY sense devs, you either give us back the materials invested, coupled with telemetries to speed up these processes or require, AT LEAST, that for any weapon to be upped it will first have to be maxed. Of course the ideal situation would be for the upgrading to go on from the current state of the gear but we couldn't have that now, could we? First way will ensure that the people who invested the time are not being awfully crapped upon (you know, the time of our lives that we could have spent playing something else or doing gardening will not be totally wasted?) whilst the second will actually even the playing field for people who will be getting the older Exotics down the way. Do I need to point out that the second idea is still shit but at least it's somewhat fair? No? Great. And PLEASE, don't give me the "it's all optional" bs line. If not upped, those hard-earned pieces of gear will be obsolete. We are forced, either to upgrade them or to ditch them altogether. I don't even know what to think anymore. The game's situation is getting messier by the day. Where did the company behind Halo go? Where did RESPECT for the players go? Do you think that by showing us photos of workspaces and adress us like ol' pals you are actually befriending us when THIS stuff hits the servers? You went in bed with the freaking devil guys, I am very sorry to say. All that matters, and it is plain as day at this point, is how many playhours the clock registers, how many people cope with all the crap that's been happening, how many "rationalize" all the RNG bs that's in place ONLY to impede progress. I have a TON of stuff to mention here but I will stay on topic. You spit on us, Bungie. You spit on our dedication, on our hard-earned money, on our -blam!-ing TIME. I'm at the edge of my patience here. I hope I am not alone. EDIT: Seems like I'm NOT freaking alone. Thank you guys. Here are a few more threads, let's spread awareness about all this bs and see if Bungie is "listening loud and clear" as they claim to. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82061069/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82305663/0/0 http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82089048/0/0 WNxChadzors wrote: "Here's an idea? Let's give everyone at bungie a promotion but reset their pay scale to entry level. That sounds fun right Deej? You just need a good recommendation from your supervisor who only comes into the office once a week and only reviews employees at random and then you can start to work on your raises again. Simple."

Good post man! I think Destiny is a big conspiracy though... Activi$ion is secretly owned by the illuminati, and they're trying to gauge how much crap we are willing to put up with before we break. That's totally the only logical explanation!

    • To all on this thread. Read this: http://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---12042014/en/News/News?aid=12447 Fully. Personally, I think it clears up a lot of confusion, clarifies a lot of previously misinformed rants and generally sets the record on a much straighter path. You still may be unhappy about some of the changes, but at least you'll have more complete information from which to soapbox.

      • i like this idea of resetting bungies pay but give them more work. if they going to continuously spit in the face of gamers then bungie has to know it will come back to them. logical conclusion. this new info just goes to show us all that bungie has no clue wtf they are doing. and bungie csn be quoted as saying " We do not want players to have 1000 hr grinds." this is part of the massive lie that is destiny. lets not forget the classic lie of, if you see it you can go there.

I agree with your rant, but EFFF u for offering any compromise of getting Materials or Telemetries or anything of that sort along with a weapon/armor XP reset. If you value your time, and you hate the ONLY EFFICIENT WAYS in the game to XP up Weapons/Armor (the repetitive not-fun or engaging bounties that give +5000 XP bonus), then you wouldn't accept any compromise. Accepting any compromise is akin to accepting having to waste your time doing the thing you hate most in the game, the most... more than any other thing you actually like to do in the game, you will have to spend time doing the stuff that sucks. If this was a F2P game, they would allow you to buy you not doing that HATED part of the game. Only it isn't a F2P, but their stupid game design hacks are doing similar stuff... putting stuff in the game that SUCKS, and then putting that as the non-Pay option of progressing... and then no actual pay alternative either (which I assume is coming if they keep going down this road of loathsome gameplay being forced on the player). I enjoy playing the Raid... I don't understand why weapons and armor don't get any XP while playing the RAID... oh I know... cause they want you to play the absolutely horrible parts of the game, before you can have upgraded weapons to use in the RAID. Bungie game designers are intentionally designing things into the game as if it was a F2P game... WTF, I would never play a F2P game because I know F2P game design is 90% player hate, and 10% something player would want to play, and thats where the monetization comes in for players that value their time more than their money.

          • I completely agree with you. Your current legendary weapons won't have a high enough attack level to compete with the new upgraded exotics, new upgraded legendary drops, and other upgraded enemies and players. So they'll be usless. I've been raiding and grinding for the last three months to get weapons and upgrade materials to upgrade useless legendary weapons once the dlc comes out. I feel like an idiot and that I just wasted my time investing in something that now has little value. I get that this game franchise is trying to be different (and it is) and along with being innovative in the gaming world comes people that are slow to adopt or want to change. But this feels like it hasn't either been well planned or communicated so the user can make decisions based on an understood end result or goal. True, my goal is to have the best weapons I can have to allow me to do the most difficult things in the game. I did a lot of grinding to get my weapons and gear to the levels they are now. Now if I want relevant weapons and gear I have to re-grind out upgrades I already did instead of letting me keep my progress so I can continue to use them in the content that is currently available which I did earn and grind out to make them better for higher level content. I know this will sound childish (but I'll say it anyway), it's kinda like your asking me to eat my own turd. Sure you're technically asking me to eat something I've eaten before and enjoyed but, I'm definitely not getting the same value out of doing it the second time around, it certainly doesn't go down easy, and it leaves a foul taste in my mouth. Keep looking forward. Make the changes to future gaming experience by adding to the game, not by changing the value of what I did in the past. I've not made a complaint post on this forum to date because I'm of the mind set "it is what it is" and all those that said this game isn't what it was advertised to be. Eh so what. It is what it is and I enjoy it. But this, to me, is really changing a big portion of what it is and how I play it.

          • Bump, this mirrors my thoughts exactly. If this goes through I'm done with this game for a while. More than anything it's just an indication that this game isn't about fun, it's about addiction and logging clock hours on their servers. Gross

            • I was pretty angry when the news dropped, but I've come around. It won't be as bad as our imaginations make it out to be. I still don't really approve of this new commendation system, but I'll give it a chance before I go off the rails. I'm actually getting pretty excited for the dlc to drop.. I scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday off of work lol.

            • I've been playing this game since launch and Bungie's shat on the community so much that I'm starting to think EA really aren't that bad and was totally undeserving of their Golden Poo awards. That's how much they've pissed me off.

            • Although it is not optimal for pre-dlc players I don't really think that resetting exotics will be as bad as people make it out to be. I am however concerned with the comendations. I don't see how it is needed and seems to be a "blam" you to the destiny community. It serves no purpose other than to limit your exotic acquisitions. #pointless

It's not spit. It's rain. Now go sing in it. I loved this game at first, but they are doing their best to morph it into a different game than the one I bought and loved. I think I'm playing through the new content then leaving. Forget about the levels and gear ect. This is the last time I pre-buy DLC from any game. Just let me enjoy my work and progress don't make me redo it. Imagine starting a new character at this point. Forgetabout it. You'll never get there. EDIT: About Leveling the new character. You will not be able to buy stuff just because you have the Marks because it is a store and why would you be able to shop at a store just because you have the money. You have to earn a token or ticket or something to be able to buy. This will mean you collect all your marks trying to hit level 2 (I had 200 with my first character by the time I had Dead Orbit Rep Level 2), but instead having the reward for playing by buying 3 armors; you will buy one and then have to wait and farm rep to get a package and be able to buy piece #2.

            • Same boat, great supporter of this game since day 1 and while the sky isn't falling on our heads and my childrens still sleep soundly and all that, I still can't stop thinking about what went through their head to come up with an idea like that. Right now, until the DLC drops and even after launch, you need to stop leveling your "old" exotics because there's no longer point doing so. And 1 week before the launch, we learn about new commendations to time-gate us even further, some peoples just went and leveled up their Vanguard/Crucible ranks, oups back to 0/3000, if you want to use to marks first week on new exotic, better start farming like crazy again on all 3 characters just to regain those ranks. (At least if it was retroactive the time lost leveling it would mean something, but I highly doubt it will be.) Never in my gaming life have I've been told to stop myself from working on my character's progression in a RPG game. Normally before a DLC, those with time on their hands farm as much as they can to prepare for the cost of the next new upgrades and polish other stuff. But they render it almost useless and for the first time since the 9th of september I put Destiny to sleep until the DLC drops, except for some fun Crucible with friends. As a gamer who loves the game, I can't understand why they don't want you to play their game a week before launch, right after a patch that boosted those "old" exotic and a new way to upgrade them, which some people already wasted the shards thinking they could upgrade it with extra nodes.

            • may be time for me also to hang this up. Destiny is getting to the point where it truly is trying to make up for its lack of content by making players repeat the same process in order to extend the game life. We can go back and list several instances of this. One being the fact that the drops rate on raid gear was extremely low, or just tended to give you a duplicate of a drop you already received. Another being, how the Aetheon fight was magically changed to all of a sudden teleport random people. The fact that the base game had only 1 raid is almost insane to me. If this 2 level light shit continues this next dlc coming up will be the last $ Bungie gets from me.
