Now you know better than to try. If you wait until the house of wolves expansion before you try to get to the max level, you'll be able to enjoy the game until Destiny 2 comes out. Then you can start the grind over again with three new characters. Or maybe we'll be able to port our existing characters over for a low onetime fee (but we'll have to level them from scratch again and the new classes will still be better than those we bring over).
Full disclosure: I already had Microsoft refund my season pass before griping here.

I was thinking about calling and getting a refund, but didn't think it was possible. So you're saying it is?

I used the chat with a rep option, but calling should work as well. from the FAQ that I linked (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/pre-order-faq): "Can I cancel a pre-order? Yes, before we release the game, you can cancel your pre-order by contacting Xbox Support."
