Reasoning for no Weekly / Raid Matchmaking ?

I've been stumped for months now...on why Bungie is so silent and not addressing the one issue most are complaining about. How almost everybody wants Matchmaking for Weekly's , Nightfalls , and Raids...and nothings being done about it. I can solo Weekly's and Nightfalls now... so it's not like strict coordination is needed. Even in Raids, everybody knows how to do it now...heck i've even beat with a whole team that didn't have mics last week. I read somewhere that Bungie wanted to make the game more 'close-nit' , which is why they left it out ... They prefer is to Friend up with complete strangers ...instead of being able to matchmake with them randomly. So yea, I gotta post on Gamefaqs everytime I need more Raid members, etc. Even as a Clan Leader, there's still many times where I struggle to find a full team since my other clannies already got the weekly reward. And I don't blame them, why do the raid / nightfall twice when there's no reward the 2nd time ? Bungie should wake up in this aspect as well....and give side-rewards for people assisting others . But back on topic, before I sidetrack my own thread... Remember...Most gamers are predominantly Loners...so most just wanna get-up and go...and beat it....without all the g@y...chit-chat crap. (how are you today? paint your toenails today? ) Another reason why Matchmaking for all playlists should be a top priority before any other updates are made. I would love to hear official reasoning from Bungie, on how they could ignore such a frequently complained about issue...that could be resolved / fixed in a few days...with simple network code update.

  • Since I took a lot of time and effort putting this thread together. Guess I'll post again, to try to re-ignite the discussion. Surely, i'm guessing Bungie will still be asleep and not viewing,..

  • Hi, i have two pg stopped on level 29 for this stupid choice that we can't search group in-game! More of my friends have sold destiny for this reason, but i like this game and i don't want to sell it... So i can't play Everyday for nothing... Please give us matchmaking on daily/weekly and vault raid.... I have season pass but why i will play the dark below DLC if i can't grow my level up and cannot do another vault that i have pay to do??? I'm so sad but without a matchmaking in daily/weekly and vault raid i will sell destiny because i'm so tired of this situation. Please bungie return a good (intelligent) company.

    • Whatever reasons they may have had in the initial weeks after the launch are absurdly outdated. At this point, almost everybody who's been playing since around the time of the launch has plenty of raid and NF experience, and could easily be matched with an appropriate group. It's VERY simple... allow the person starting a raid to select the raid level (we can already do that), the minimum level of any potential matches, and perhaps an option or two, such as whether the random matches have a mic. If I had that basic level of control over a matched VOG run, coupled with the ability to boot (again we already have that), I'd be doing matched VOG runs and meeting a LOT more new players. I mostly do NF with the same people, but matched NF is needed just as badly. The current system of spending two minutes to open the PS menu, what for the rcvd msg list to load, open the msg., read it, and reply to every stinkin' request I get at the tower, half of which just say "Play Destiny!", with no info about it being VOG, what level VOG, whether they have the rest of the group, whether people have mics, what level the potential other players may be, whether they're starting from scratch or some other point along the way, if they're ready to go, etc. etc. is just a royal pain in the a$$. As a result, I ignore at least 95% of the requests I get. On that note, for the idiots out there that send invites to people without bothering to provide any info whatsoever in your invite, go screw yourselves. Do you enjoy spending all of your time waiting for the PS menu to open and retrieve the list of received msgs, only to open the play request and find it devoid of any information? No? Neither do I. If you don't have one or more lvl 30 chars maybe you don't know how irritating this is and how often it happens, but someday you will. If you're one of those people, try sending the person a MESSAGE, with info about what you want their help with in the SUBJECT line, and THEN if they reply you can send them an invite. You'll have MUCH better success.

      • Okay the unofficial reasoning based purely on conjecture on my part. It begins with how the game is intended to be played. 1. Complete story 2. Unlock Crucible and Strike playlist 3. Hit 20, join faction enter crucible and playlist each week until maxed 4. Meet people in playlist and/or crucible who have a playstyle that is complementary 5. Friend said people 6. Create a core fireteam of 3 to perform the playlist each week 7. Keep in touch on the forums 8. Connect with another 3 person fireteam 9. Each three person team does playlist 10. All six crucible each week 11. Upgrade gear become friends 12. Message via the website 13. Conduct Raid - Have Fun 14. Form a clan 15. Find other pairs of three people fireteams on the forums 16. Grow clan 17. Weekly Raid/Nightfall/Heroic/Playlist/Crucible life is full 18. Clan BFF on the forums all the time 19. Buy DLC 20. Use Forums/Buy DLC/use Forums/Buy Destiny 2/use Forums/Buy DLC etc. So why is this the correct way to play? Because when Bungie and Activision decided on this partnership they DID NOT decide to create a game. They decided to use a game as a launching point for a multimedia experience. Using the forums is part of the game, using the app is part of the game. When Bungie sits down to discuss user stats for budget purposes, for advertising budget, for product endorsements and secondary vendors, for the movie deal, for the book deals. It will not be the number of players playing the game. The user stats will be Total User IDs using the game or the website or the app over each quarter divided by total sales volume divided by days in a quarter giving the number of players per day. Average time in game will be all hours spent doing any of the above divided by total users as defined above. 9 million users spending 3 minutes in matchmaking per day is 450,000 player hours per day 9 million users spending 12 hours per month dealing with the absence of matchmaking 3,600,000 player hours per day If the average user spends one hour per day actually in game 9 million users at 9 million hours However with 3,600,000 hours per day dealing with matchmaking half that time 1,800,000 complaining about the game half that again 900,000 figuring out the grimoire cards and crap Plus 10,000,000 hours of Bungie fans (who do not play) complaining about the game 25,300,000 person hours per day are spent 'playing' destiny SINCE players only play 1 hour per day as per the chart (imagine a chart) Then it is obvious that there are actually 25 million players 25 million players to buy the books and Destiny 2 and watch the movie and and and... Cue salivating stockholders

        • Thanks for all the replies and trying to bring this issue to light. I had a guy on my friend's list say to me he wanted to join the raid but never did it before. When I relayed that to the rest of the group, NOBODY wanted him in. But I brought him anyway...and we beat the raid. Yeah, a few group members were pizzed and left when we got stuck on a few parts...but still I thought it was important since he was probably one of these people that didn't have a whole group of 6 that play this game frequently. He even thanked my personally after the raid, saying he was about to leave noticing he was bringing the rest of the group down. But Bungie, this is part of the reason why Matchmaking is definitely needed. Even in raids. So many haven't done it yet, since they don't have the groups to do so.

            • As someone who works full time, has 3 kids and a wife,I can't plan when I'm going to get on and play.a lot of times I only have an hour or two and the chances I'll find friends on playing destiny at that exact moment when I'm free are slim.since the last update, being a level 29,I'm now getting worked just doing the weekly solo.(c'mon with the you suck comments whatever)point is I agree.its now so frustrating trying to do it solo I don't even get on much.putting matchmaking in would be a huge help for me and many people like myself who have jobs, and lives, outside of destiny.how hard would it be to have a choice box of "allow matchmaking" on weekly, nightfall and raid?save points stay in raid.if you only get part of the way done, next matchmaking would pair you with people at same checkpoint.player backs out or gets kicked to orbit?matchmaking could fill with someone from same checkpoint. Bungie has made multiple posts about how awesome it is to see people go to forums to find players or stand at the start of the raid looking for a team.thats not awesome,it's idiotic that it has to be done that way due to them not including a basic social aspect to a supposed social game.i bought destiny knowing it would take time to develop into the grand game it was advertised as,but almost 3 months past launch and the loudest request I see is still matchmaking, and still,no fix except the forums.

            • The raid doesn't need matchmaking. If Bungie does anything, they should implement a forum system in game to look for groups. The last thing I want to do is play with someone that can't figure out how to find a team online.

            • I myself have not completed the raid once as none of my friends play this sort of title they are all into battlefield and fifa. i think they could at least adopt a system like dc universe has were you can type to each other, some people hate speaking or are socially awkward so having a chat bar would in able them to join in and not feel left out. match making is a must in my eyes for this game to survive

              • Unlike Story missions and Strikes, Raids do not give players objectives or waypoints and instead force Guardians to figure everything out themselves. Because of the necessity of communication and coordination, Raids do not support matchmaking.

It's stupid shit that makes it tough on people anyway. Mainly no revives and respawns. Lots of options could be set and filters applied to get more of a "matchmaking" Also when chests get opened, just change it so whole team gets reward so some people don't just run to all chests and screw over people. Good for patrols too! Congrats Bungie for trying to force us to become old war of warcraft style players. Less than a third of your customers can access the content they paid for and even give it an honest try.

                      • It's because the level of coordination required to be successful inside vog would be too intense for random to figure out. I do believe there is some truth to this as well. I have raided with random groups of people and had totally awful experiences. I have had ppl blame me, yell at me, curse at me and worse. I can only imagine how bad it would be if matchmaking were allowed.

                        • Well you don't want a bunch of 29 noobs all getting matched into a raid for their first time. No one would know what to do. The search/matchmaking tool should allow someone to specify raid completion experience and minimum level percentage, so you can join a raid if are you are 25 or 30 through a search parameter that satisfies your personal preference so no one is upset when lower level or inexperienced players join, unless their search parameters allow it. There would be two search parameters: minimum average level, and minimum average number of completions.

matchmaking would be nice with some filter options for the NFs.ok,a lot of player would filter out the low geared ones but thats not the prob cuz they have still a way to do it old fashion.for the raid i would prefer some kind of partyfinder lobby like destinytracker.com in the game. an ingame chattool with specific channels and maybe region filters would make the game so much better for everyone i guess . btw i think bungie already working on something like this but the time to release it was yesterday.

                          • I think match making should be available for everything except the raid. Bungie's reasoning is sound in that area. Any one who has attempted the raid would probably agree. But, having said that, there are plenty of great players who are willing to take level-appropriate players into the raid all you got to do is get on this forum and spend a little energy finding them. More often than not you will find people looking for help. PS make sure your LEGENDARY or higher weapons are leveled up
