The Wrong Way to Send a Raid Invite

So I'm in the tower turning in my bounties before changing characters to go play some IB when I get a message from a random 29. All it says is "VOG hard?" Since I've already beaten the raid on hard on all three of my characters this week I replied with a simple "No". Now I always get a little depressed when I see another message coming back after that response. Most of the time, the follow up is, "why not?", which is a really dumb question to ask. What are you going to do when I tell you that I've already done it? Change my mind? If someone declines a raid invite, suck it up and move on. The forums and destinylfg exist for a reason. This particular 29 in his infinite wisdom sent back the following "i love u 30s u think your better but your not u were a 29 once". Don't assume what other people's motivations are. Don't antagonize or provoke someone you're asking to help you. And FFS people, please try to exercise a little civility both on the forums and in game. I promise you will get much better results.

  • As with any social settings I think the rules are pretty clear. Sure there are those who think that a simply No is rude however it is not. This problem arises from individuals insisting on perceiving reality as binary (black and white). No thanks, or no time right now are much more polite than a simple No absolutely but No should be a perfectly acceptable answer that is deemed neither rude nor polite a third category if you will. As a communication methodology the simple one word answer does have drawbacks and it is worth considering. To all those acting as though other people owe you help. Seriously? No one owes you help. Strangers are not required to help you move your couch. Being members of a community does not mean that other people are effectively your slaves.

    • At least he sent a message rather than just an invite with no explanation as to why.

    • I usually say no because I usually just don't feel like doing it.

    • Message: VoG. Reply: Done both on /normalhard for the week already. Message: You can do it again, we need your help. ...Seconds later, friends request. reply: How the hell did you get my PSN ID? (Forgetting I was in the tower and he was in the same tower as I was) I got suckered into this as well, when I have already done multiple normal runs and one hard one with each of my characters. Not really suckered into it, since I needed glimmer for the Iron banner weapons and had heard a good place to get them quick is the gatekeeper area (later found out a much better place is the exclusion zone mission on Mars Do'h!) Joined and it was a bunch of kids (all 29's and one 28) that seemed to know it all, but died a bunch of times. Didn't want to leave them hanging, so I persevered through all the teeny bopper talks and banter, with nothing but 3000 glimmer richer LOL. Most likely won't do that again, unless it's someone on my friend's list. OP: The one antagonizing you for not wanting to help, considering it is understandable that you have already done multiple runs for the week on your characters, is a douche for saying what he said. Either ignore the message, reply with "done it already" and if further responses comes in, just ignore and delete.

    • I just hate the people that only send invites without any information as to what they want to do

    • Since the PSN messaging system is so bad, I usually just invite people to a party chat and then ask them if they want to raid. It actually ends up taking a lot less time if you can just have a short conversation about 'yes; no; why; why not' rather than all the frantic typing in the messenger program.

        • So if he would've responded with a civilized "please?" Would you have helped him? No. No you wouldn't. So this is irrelevant and you're a dumbass. Good day.

          • OR, you use my excuse when I want to get away from something. Like a raid going horrible wrong or something. You just say: Sorry guys, my boyfriend is horny, I got to go. Then leave the party. I never get invited back.

            • clans would solve this problem or atleast alleviate it Hey everyone, for those of you that are on ps3 and need help with hard raids / weekly / nightfall , feel free to join my clan . we have a bunch of active members lol try your luck here if you'd like http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Members/607314 <----- help is everywhere if you look for it and ask civily. what the 29 should have done is read the no then moved on to another source of potential fireteam members not waste his/her time sending the 30 a flame message.

            • Hahaha dude I had this happen to me (VoG normal though) but I made the mistake of being a nice guy and joining them to help. Then after getting teleported to Venus and getting trapped inside because the people who invited me couldn't remember which sync plates were for which planet, I realized a simple "no thanks" back at the tower would have prevented all of this

              • I have a 3 spam invite rule. Unless you are one of the actual friends I've made throughout the course of the game, if you spam me more than 3 times and I don't respond, I kick you from my friends list and block you.

              • Just like you, I ignore most of the random invites that I get. If you don't send a message in what you are trying to do, I will ignore you.

              • Some people are just hypocrites. The hard raid can easily be done with full party of 29s IF everyone knows what they're doing and can hold their own. I log onto my 30 and get spam invited throughout the day when I don't want to raid. Log onto my 29 lf raid and nobody wants to invite anymore...

              • I had someone ask me to raid with them, I told him I have work in the morning. (lied to be polite) He sent me some hate mail because I made ONE grammar mistake. So I sent back a message saying, you know what, I lied to be polite. Now I am refusing to help you because I don't like you.
